Anyone been to Cape Codder Resort in Hyannis, Mass.?

Wondering if it is truly a family resort --- ie, if you don't go with kids, is it a quiet, relaxing spot for a weekend getaway?

Considering the cost of the resort with spa package, I'm wondering if it's cheaper to fly to Disney for a day!

Before I say anything about this hotel I just want to state that I have spent many vacation days on Cape cod as it is our next favorite vacation spot after Disney (of course). And while I have never stayed at the Cape Codder (actually I am going to a scrapbooking retreat there in March of 2007- also we LOVE the Hearth & Kettle restaraunt that is attached) I have heard wonderful things about it. Having said that, unfortunately there was an "isolated incident" reported last week about a young boy being sexually assaulted by a teenager who was also on vacation there. Now please note, it was done to someone on vacation by someone on vacation-not by an employee or cape cod resident. I am not trying to stir the pot, (from the looks of your post, you aren't traveling with kids?) I just thought you should be informed before making your decision.

Wow, I didn't hear about that happening at the cape codder. My family has gone to the Cape Codder twice. We go in Feb or March to give the kids a break from our New England winters. My kids are 14, 5 and 4 and all had a great time. The older kids will love the waterslides, and the wave pool is great for all ( It is nice because you can walk right in to the pool). They also have had a bon fire at night when we were there ( Bring sticks and marshmallows) We eat at the Hearth and Kettle at night, Bring a cooler for snacks, And hit Dunkin Donuts for Breakfast!!! :sunny:

Sorry, I should add we have always gone as a family, the spa area looks nice, and there is also a more adult only dining option on site. Pool area when we have gone is always busy with families. However there is a nice 25 person adult only hot tub!!! We go for 2 nights, there is more outside activities to do in the area during the summer. We went to the sister hotel of the cape codder last month, The John Carver Inn, This is right in plymouth, not to far from the waterfront, Has a hearth and kettle as well, and I found pool area not as crowed--best of luck :sunny:

We went for a couple of nights during February vacation two years ago with ds then 4 and dd then 1. It was very crowded with many, many children. I thought it was a bit pricey but the kids absolutely loved it! I did manage to sneak off to the spa for a pedicure and that was heavenly! I would go back again.
I forgot...The Christmas Tree Shops are always a great off site excursion any time of year!

My parents took my family there. We had a great trip but we were a family with kids. I think it was very family oriented. We had a great time but I think the cost was too much.

Has a lot of different places to look at if your not sure about the Cape Codder.

I would suggest Chatam Bars Inn for a couple. Nice and quiet and great restaurants and the Spa is very luxurious.
Chatham's Main Street is a very quaint place to browse with shops and many nice restaurants to choose from.

Have fun choosing!

All of the Catania Hospitality Group properties are very nice and provide excellent quality and service IMO. Both the Cape Codder and John Carver Inn are great family resorts (Dan'l Webster would be more of an adult resort, but welcoming to families as well).

All of the nicer resorts in the southeastern MA area are loaded with kids on school vacation weeks, so you may want to factor that into your planning.

If I can't be at Disney, one of these is a good substitute. :thumbsup2

We went a few years ago during April vacation week for a couple of days. The kids had a ball. I thought it was very expensive though. The big pool area was extremely crowded and it was hard for myself and mom to find a place to sit. The kids love the Hearth and Kettle restaurant that is attached. It was pretty much a one shot deal for us to go just so the kids could try out the wave pool and waterslide. My aunt has a bed and breakfast in Hyannis so we usually stay there when we go away. If you are not going during a vacation week it may not be as crowded, but if you are planning on going during summer vacation period it very well may be busy.

Thanks for all the replies!

I'm still nervous, though. My DH picked out this place as a "surprise" (he left out the reservations for me to see on the computer by accident) birthday retreat for he and I. I personally would have this last on my list because 1) I don't love Cape Cod 2) a family resort for a romantic weekend doesn't compute 3) we spent two nights at the Great Wolf Lodge indoor water park
just two weeks ago....

Yes, I would love to take the kids here, but they're not coming this time!

Between the spa services and the Cru Wine Bar (sorry, I cook homestyle meals everyday - the last place I want to eat would be at the Hearth & Kettle) can we enjoy a Boston-style (ie luxury room, gourmet memorable meal, high quality spa services).

I'm trying to avoid being disappointed.....but getting away as a couple to a family resort is bugging me.

Can you guys convince me to keep this ressie?

I would suggest, then, that you try the Dan'l Webster Inn - it's on the link listed above. It would be more "adult" than the Cape Codder. It's a beautiful resort, and also has a spa. The food is delicious, and more gourmet than Hearth n Kettle (though it is owned by the same family). Check the link, above. :thumbsup2
