OT: Best flavor for Colonoscopy prep-solution?

I didn't use the pineapple, but used all the rest of them together.
drank it fast and held my nose and it wasn't too bad. Just so much of it.

Wow, I thought I remembered this from a couple years ago.

My doctor suggested an entire bottle of Miralax. Best deal ever!!

I'd go with lemon/lime. The other choices just seem icky sweet to me. I had to have an emergency colonoscopy last year but still had to prep. I found chugging as much prep as possible and then sipping chicken broth helped keep the prep down.

I had the lemon-lime. The worst thing for me was that it was so salty. I mixed mine with sprite. It's the only way I could choke it down.

The first one I had years before my doctor had me on liquids for 3 days before then a laxative the day the before and I much prefer this method to drinking all that gross stuff.

I've had 2 colonoscopies and with God as my witness, I'll never go the "drink this stuff" route again. If/when I need to have another colonoscopy, I'll ask for the pills instead. Seriously. Drinking that stuff is like drinking battery acid. And you have to drink so much of it. I can't even drink that much of something that I love, like iced tea!

Like others have said, the prep is the worst part. I hope it all goes well for you and that you get good test results. :flower3:

I didn't get a choice, mine only came with lemon lime flavor.
I chilled it, but I don't think I'll do that again.......by the time I was half way through the gallon I was shivering, and this was on a 90 degree day.

I couldn't keep the prep stuff down no matter what I did to it. Finally called the doctor and she said to drink two 8 oz bottles of citrus Magnesium Citrate with a lot of water. SO much easier!
I don't know why they all prescribe that gallon of salt water instead. I get sick to my stomach just thinking about the stuff.
Another option is to juice fast 24 hours, then water 24 hours, then use a fleet before the appointment. I'd even do that over the prep stuff.

I think I had Miralax and added it to a gallon of Gatorade (I chose the light blue color - berry something) and I also had to take Dulcolax. I had to make sure the kids didn't drink any of my Gatorade. It wasn't too bad but I will only drink Gatorade every 5 years - or as directed by my dr. Good luck on your colonscopy, the prep really is the worst part.

Mine was lemon, it was awful. The only way I got it down was to chew gum at the same time, otherwise it felt like it was going to come right back up.

I don't know how it would work with pills only, I think you have to have liquids to "flush it through". :headache:

I think I got lemon lime. After 2-3 glasses the flavor doesnt matter it will just taste like water with a bunch of salt-yuck! The one thing that helped me was sticking a jolly rancher in my mouth after each glass move the jolly rancher around really quick then take it out and save for next glass. After a few glasses I almost threw it up but the jolly rancher helped cuz there was no way i was starting over. I think you just cant have red or purple candy

I had lemon lime. Ice cold, chugging from a small cup and then refilling and chugging more was how I got mine down.

And baby wipes. The softest you can find! maybe TMI, but i swear before my next, I'll install a bidet:rolleyes1

The prep is 20x worse than the procedure.

That beats my first one- that Dr had you drink the liquid crap, take pills and then do an enema TWO TIMES the next day before the test- that was hell!

Even with the pills my dr has you drink the liquid! One Dr I went to you drank this tiny little bottle of something and took a couple pills and that was it--sure wish they did that still!

How right you are about the "tenderness" during the prep.

My doctor suggested that you can have beer with the prep and the anesthesiologist endorsed it. The claim was that you are flushing out your system, so you might as well be happy while doing the prep. Much better than those masking flavors that come in the pack.

I wish I could have had a beer during my prep!

I say go with a lemon lime flavor, as cold as you can tolerate. I drank mine as fast as I can and that if for sure the way to go.

I have to have my second one pretty soon because of a small mass they found on a CT scan recently (fingers crossed that it's nothing scary!).
I will be BEGGING for the pills! I got so sick from the liquid that I was vomiting for about 5 hours straight ~ I will never go through that again.

Probably should create a poll, but will try this first......what flavor is best to use so you can't taste the lovely prep-solution for a colonoscopy :scared1: ?????

Choices are: Pineapple, Orange, Lemon-Lime, and Cherry.

TIA

Given that it made me sick to my stomach and ended up up chucking most of it I don't think it makes any difference.

That's what my grandmother had to endure. I was in Texas with my aunt when she had to drink her jug. She actually couldn't get it all down. I don't think any one in my family is big guzzlers. We all like having a fresh glass of tea or soda, but we never finish it off. She alternated between the nasty stuff and apple juice. It looks really unpleasant.

I had one two weeks ago. Dulcolax and Gatorade mixed with Miralax was much better than last one. They must have used a different anesthia I woke up feeling so refreshed. Asked the nurse what was it and could I take some home?

I had my first colonoscopy three weeks ago. I had to mix a bottle of Miralax with 64 ounces of Gatorade (I chose lemon-lime). I also had to take Dulcolax laxatives (four in total). I had no problems. The mixture didn't bother me at all and I thought the procedure was easy. I commented to the nurse about the anesthesia and how great it was and she said it was Propofol.

I will not fear this procedure in the future. I didn't think it was bad at all.

I agree the drugs are good. After my colonoscopy I was so well rested I felt like I'd just had a couple of weeks off from work. It then occurred to me that if that's what Michael Jackson felt like, I could understand choosing that over insomnia. (Not that it should ever be an option)

I use the three glass method -- the 8 oz of (flavorless) solution, a glass of water, and a glass of apple juice. Take several swallows of the solution, a big sip of water to clear the mouth and then a sip and swirl of apple juice to chase it and not taste it before the next swallows. Essentially I end up drinking twice as much liquid, but I've never had a problem and the process is over in a couple of hours with no ugly side effects.
