OT Attachement Parenting

Baby led solids are when you skip purees and go to soft chunks of food for self-feeding. It makes sense, it just wasn't for us.

Hmm...What age is it usually introduced? DS could not handle anything past stage 2 baby food until he was close to 1 year. He had the worst gag reflex. Getting him to eat table food was a nightmare. I seriously thought I was going to lose my mind from the amount of gagging and throwing up he did. :scared:

It can be from 6 months. I used purees at first (at 6 months), but quickly progressed to small chunks of soft or cooked foods for dd. She much prefers to feed herself now at 8 1/2 months and nothing is pureed except for the cereal I try to feed her from a spoon and she won't eat it. So I am done spoonfeeding, yay! It might be motor related, both dd and my ds2 were up crawling on all fours by 6 months of age. They were ready to self feed and able to do it. They do eat small amounts, which is good imo. I am amazed at some jar food-fed babies who eat 4 jars + a day . Dd eats maybe 2 tablespoons or so of diced fruit/veggie and some cheerios or rice cake twice a day!

It's not so much an age as meeting a number of criteria, being able to sit independently and having no tongue thrust reflex being among them...I think the idea is that they won't choke because once they meet the criteria they'll be able to chew off food and swallow it...I think those skills are all supposed to come at the same time. I would assume someone here actually DOES it, so they will know more than I do! But, going with the theory, it sounds like your son wouldn't have eaten much of anything until he was after a year, or it just wouldn't have worked, I really dunno. Sorry getting your son to eat table food was like that though, it sounds stressful!

Does that mean those of us who don't vaccinate (or choose private school) AREN'T? Just wondering. You would be extremely hard-pressed to find two parents more concerned with education than myself and dh, so I am always shocked when people assume we don't care about our son's education as much as they do about their children's.:headache:

Wow, no, I didn't mean that at all, although I guess, rereading my post that I can see why my comment could be misinterpreted that way. I just know several people who chose private school for prestige reasons, and not really for education reasons. They don't look for the right fit for their child, they look for the right fit for their country club. I was just trying to explain our reasons for looking at private schools...

I know there are private schools that won't exclude you for vaccination records, but the top ones around here will. We're focused on schools that are extremely rigorous academically and regularly send kids to the top universities in the nation. Getting into these schools is extremely competitive, and we're just hoping we'll be lucky enough to get DS in.

Does anyone else cloth diaper??? We use Fuzzibunz and Haute pockets...
We are heading to WDW 8/15-23..anyone else????

We used cloth diapers with our first DS...just regular cloth with Bumkins covers (they were so cute!). And, we're there almost the same dates - 8/18 for a week.

We use Fuzzi Bunz. I started when dd was in size medium, so now I need to find some smalls for this new babe on the way.
I don't want to buy them brand-new, partly because they are so expensive new, but mostly because they are now outsourcing to Mexico (specifically Juarez) and haven't given out much info on their workers' conditions, etc.
So I'm going to try to find a great deal on some small FBs (EUC) and then try to branch out a little bit and try some new dipes :)

OMG, you should have seen my grocery bill from the amount of organic baby food I bought weekly. He would eat a huge bowl (as big as my 5 year old ate) of infant oatmeal for breakfast. Then for lunch and dinner he would eat 3 jars of baby food each! This was in addition to all of the nursing he was doing until age 1.

It was pretty stressful, but then one day he just ate it and was fine. As far as development he was walking by 9 months. I don't remember when he was sitting up, but at least 6 months. Now he eats everything under the sun and has no other problems. :)

Thanks for the information! :)

Hi mamas,
It's Mirlow from MDC. I haven't been on the Disney for Families in a long time I thought I would check it out. My kids are older and I just wanted to give advice to you all with younger kids. There is always going to be someone who doesn't agree with your parenting skills, but you need to know you are doing the best job you can do right now:) I know I find things difficult at times especially when I feel like I'm swimming upstream. The issues have changed somewhat since they are older, but their still there.

For those of you who aren't completely AP I say "you gotta do what you gotta do" I look back and thought we were doing things pretty AP with my oldest and by the time my third one came along I thought for sure we damaged our older one! Life is a learning process.

Many people don't have a clue about our parenting because we may look "mainstream" on the outside, but we're really hippies on the inside:hippie: Our family thinks were a bunch of "weirdos" , but they love us the same.

On another note I can't figure out why MDC keeps getting uptight with us over on our thread? What exactly is causing all the fuss? Does the thought of Mickey give them the creeps? Oh well, like I said you're never going to please everyone!

I haven't been to that thread in a while, but Disney is just taboo over there. It's the whole consumerism-is-evil concept. I don't know.. I don't understand it! Disney is fun for our family and we enjoy it, so if others don't understand it, then that means fewer ppl in the parks and reserving rooms! :rotfl:

I am an MDC mommy too! I am still very soggy by the MDC standards, but am learning. I agree with the poster that said MDC shows her the mom she wants to be. I started posting there because they have a working moms forum and those can be hard to come by! ( I am dentmom over there)

Our older kiddos cosleep - with each other!:goodvibes and the baby is now in his crib to start the night but comes to sleep with us after he nurses. I am still bringing my PIS to work with me and don't see weaning coming up any time soon. I am still working on the sling - I feel more comfortable wearing DS in my Bjorn still, I wasn't introduced to a sling until #3 and old habits die hard. I know I am not super AP to most of you, but to my IRL friends, who see me nursing DS while in the sling at the CSA (farm) in our town I am a super crunchy crazy mama who (gasp!) lets the baby in the bed!:rolleyes1

LOL, I swear they have people who troll our tribe thread looking for ways to hit us and lock the thread!!

Oh, and we don't do baby led solids...we hand DS a spoon with some mushed up food on it and he feeds himself, but he's not eating real food yet.

We did that, but not out of any planned AP parenting. DS refused cereal, refused strained foods and insisted on eating small bits of soft foods.

We cloth diapered, co-slept, sling'ed (slung - past tense?), extended BF, delayed vax, and quite a few other AP or semi AP things, not by design, but more out of - that is what felt right for us. But I am still not crunchy enough for MDC standards. I do post on Liberated Lounge - private AP type board with none of the "I'm more AP than you nonsense". :cool1:

I made a post about the DIS Mommies thread over at mothering.com's forums and someone directed me here :)

I'm a big ol' NL (natural living)/AP (attachment parenting) mama as well. I wasn't able to breastfeed, which was really upsetting to me - I even tried relactating which didn't work either. I'm hoping to use gentle discipline as Jacob gets older. We coslept for a good bit after we brought him home (me and him, my fiance slept in the big bed lol), and we do now from time to time but typically he won't fall asleep if I try he mostly does it if we're in a new place. I also wore him for a while, and will wear him again once I sew or buy a new cooler sling. The one I have now is made out of hemp jersey and it's swealtering in this summer heat :(

Oh, and he has a cute cloth diapered bum and isn't vaxed. I want to continue to not vax, but my fiance isn't on board with it whatsoever...which isn't helped by our pediatrician who's the type to blatently say "If you don't do this, your kid could DIE" and stress the dying part.

Anyways wanted to comment here and introduce myself :D

I've been dying to try out Haute Pockets - but I'm a CD addict and my stash is already way too huge, so I'm not wanting to buy any more.

FBs never worked for us sadly. I mostly use Bum Genius (both versions) and those are some of my favorite. There is a mom from diaperswappers that makes fitted diapers (if you go to hyenacart her cart is Cuddle Bug Cloth) and they are the best fitted diapers I've ever used, even when I compare them to ones like SOS.

This reminds me that I have some I need to sell over at DiaperSwappers, ones that don't fit him any more.

Hi..:)
I think I am an AP Mom, but DH & I always just did what came naturally, plus I have really wonderful parents who were co sleeping, breastfeeding & baby wearing & I was the second oldest of eight ,so I learned & babysat ALOT!! I love Dr. Sears & that is how I became familiar w/ the term. I have yet to check out MDC but I'm a little scared..3 boys circumcised..I definitely won't be on that thread. My youngest DS is now 10 mths. I have breastfeed all of them but the first two were weaned around 6 months. This time around I trusted my body much more & I have never pumped or supplemented w/ him, & he is doing really great:angel: !

We have co slept w/ all three, the older two share a room now but jump in at will. Thank God for king size beds!! I have always been horrified at the cry it out thing, but if I told my friends this, they would probably all be offended.

I try to have us all eat healthy, lots of organic & we have a big garden right now, but I am sure some really crunchy moms would be horrified at the treats I let my older boys have sometimes. They attend a school that has a really strict nutrition policy so that helps.
I am so relieved to read a thread where there are Moms that seem similar in parenting style to me!! ( and you all love Disney:cloud9: ) I cannot wait until my Yoga & Reiki master all natural granola sis has a baby, she'll probably live on a board like that(MDC)..then again I can't imagine her nursing on demand all night like me..such a diva:rotfl:
I would love any suggestions on a good sling, we will be in Disney this year my DS will be 13 mths at the time & I have always been a holder instead of a wearer, but my little guy is such a cuddlebug I am thinking he would like it. TIA..sorry so long this is so long!:goodvibes

Another mommy checking in here. I guess I'm sort of doing the AP thing. DS-8 mo is still being bf. Planning to go to a year and then just see what happens. He sleeps in his own bed about half the time and in mine the other 1/2. Thank goodness DH doesn't mind moving out in the middle of the night if we need him to!

I have a question about the sling thing, though. Is 8 or 9 months too late to try to start this? I had a couple of baby carriers that I tried (the cheaper kind you get at Target or Sears) that didn't work too great for us. But they weren't cozy looking like the slings I see online. We are going to WDW in 2 months, and I'd love to try a sling out there. It would have to be cool, though, since we will be in hot weather. Any suggestions or advice?

I really liked my Hot Sling ( www.hotslings.com ). It was very easy to use. Since it didn't have adjustments like the ring slings, I didn't have to worry about it slipping and him falling.

If I ever get the chance to sling another babe, I think I would like to try a Mei Tei style carrier.

HI! Another semi-AP momma here!! My girls are older now so I really don't do much of it now. We still somewhat co sleep with our 3 almost 4 year old. That is only because she is having issues at night so we climbs in our bed almost undetected. LOL
We did breastfeed, babywear and cloth diapered (fuzzi bunz) when ours were little. And in a couple years when we expand our family we will do it again and add homebirth to the list.
Like some of you I do vax my kids. It is what we need to do. Besides that I am a home daycare provider for the military and there isn't much give with the vaccines. I also send my kids to catholic school so they need their vax's.
My thought is that AP means following your instincts, your heart and doing what you, your baby and your family feels is right not what everybody else says is right. In that sense I am 100% AP.
I also hit MDC regularly, but just started posting...I should look at the Disney area there!
