OT: Any tips on cheap Vegas rooms?

Like others who have suggested keep checking rates on-line, the closer August gets you will find that the rates will go down. We went to Vegas this past September, right after Labor day and ended up paying 19.00 a night for the Orleans, which by the way is a very nice, clean hotel. I originally booked directly with the Orleans and then kept checking rates on various web sites until I found the lower rate, contacted the Orleans and not only do they honor that rate but take off an additional 5%. And even though the Orleans is not on the strip the shuttles run back and forth so the waiting wasn't that bad. But the thing that stood out about the Orleans is how clean the rooms were, housekeeping was just as good if not better then the mousekeepers at Disney.

I'm not sure where you're flying from, but if you can find a charter, that's usually the best way.... www.funjet.com or www.worryfreevacations.com. I lived in Vegas for 5 years and it's a hit or miss thing with rates. If you are interested in a certain hotel, try to sign up for their players card online. They've been sending me tons of postcards now that I don't live there with very discounted or free nights. A lot of them are for off strip properties like the Station casinos, but sometimes you can't pass on free. Another property I like is Silverton Casino. They've revamped the whole place and it's really nice now. It's not on the strip, but they have a shuttle that'll take you to and from a couple of casinos.

I hope you have a great time. I know what you mean about the end of the strip you're talking about. It's a great location. I'd avoid Stratosphere if I were you too far in my opinion. In fact Treasure Island is probably as far north as I'd go because you get too far from anything after that.

Did I just confuse you more? LOL :confused3

PS. Sign up for the casino newsletters too. I get lots of deals in their emails that are pretty good.

Oh, and another website I like is www.travelworm.com

We'll fly out of Kansas City, it's only about a 2 hour drive from here.

Allegiant was a good idea, I'm surprised they fly out of Topeka, but it's only 2 days a week, and unless we stay a whole week we'll miss the wedding. Ihad friends in South Dakota that loved their service out of Sioux Falls.

Still waiting to hear if she's going to change the date because of all the conventions that week.

I'm hoping to get a Ding on Southwest, or even a good fare sale after they release the schedule. But that's another thread!!

You might look into the Caesar's Entertainment Group (Caesar's Palace, Paris, Bally's, Flamingo) and their Best Rate Plus guarantee. If you book a room through the hotel's website, and find a lower rate on another website within 24 hours, they will give you that rate, plus another 25% off! We booked a room for 3 nights in May at Paris through the website and were given a total of $460. I then found a website called www.worldres.com, and got a rate of about $360 for the same three nights. We faxed the claim form and a screenshot of the lower rate to the Paris reservation center, and within a few hours received a new total of $270 for those three nights. We saved over $200!! :woohoo: If you go to any of those hotel websites, you will see a Best Rate Plus guarantee logo somewhere on the home page. Click on that to get all the details.

The wedding is going to be at Treasure Island, but I'm not sure if that's where the couple are staying. I don't think she's decided yet.

I was a Wedding Coordinator at TI for a few years--it will be a lovely ceremony. Ask the bride if she requested a room block at TI---it would be cheaper for all of you. What day and time is she being married? Be sure everyone is ON TIME for the wedding---their schedule on weekends gets really tight.

BTW---I've never seen 117, and certainly not 125 degrees. It's blazing, that's for sure, but not quite that hot. The lack of a breeze on the Strip is no help.

In addition to reading the tips for priceline bidding at biddingfortravel website, I find the owner at www.betterbidding.com very helpful to newbies - there is a lot of reading to understand how to bid... I did find out that hotwire and hotels.com is owned by the same person so I've often checked hotels.com if I want a specific hotel...

also my friends went, and for the life of me I dont know what hotel they stayed in but they registered for that hotel at the hotels website and are sent codes, or a coupon book!!
