I have 3 months until my G2 expires, so I need to go for my test. I drive all the time, I'm really quite confident about it usually. But I have horrible test anxiety and the thought of having to take this driving test literally gives me the poops. :lmao:

I keep telling myself that they're not looking for the world's best driver, just someone who isn't going to be a danger to the public. (Well, maybe a step or two higher than that.:) ) But I've still got those pesky 'I don't wanna do it! poops'. :rolleyes1

Any words of advice? Tips? Particular branches to avoid? I live in the GTA, but am thinking about doing it in Sarnia, near the in-laws, so avoid the Toronto driving mentality. :)

Heeelllllp Meeeeeee!

I took my G2 test a long time ago but a couple of things that they did during the test:
1) Counted every single time that I didn't check my blind spot which is marked against you - I did check it on turns, lane changes, etc. but it wasn't obvious enough for the tester to see. I think you start the test at 100% and then for every "infraction", you get points taken off. I'm not sure if this is the same, though.
2) She had me parallel park and do a three-point turn twice each! Didn't expect that. Thank goodness I practiced!

My test was about 35 minutes long but we ended up waiting for a train so we couldn't do the one-way streets section of the test. That was a little weird ... not sure what to chat about while sitting at a train with a perfect stranger!

Anyway, I can't remember more but I hope that was a little help! Good luck with your test :thumbsup2

I hired my original driving instructor to come with me and make sure I hadn't picked up any bad habits. I rarely parallel park, so I had him go over that with me to make sure I could still do it. I had my test booked early in the morning and early in the week (testers are less testy then), and took some time to practice parallel parking before driving over for the test. Good luck! :)

I am of no help to you but DH will be, he is a driving instructor and knows all the ins and outs...he will be a big help. I will have him post on Sunday because that is his only day off! Good Luck!!!:)

That's awsome! Thank you so much!!!! I can't wait to hear what he has to say! :dance3: Let him know there's no such thing as too much info!

Make sure you drive with your hands at 10 and 2!

Avoid Hamilton for your test, more people I know have failed there than anywhere else... also avoid the driver's exam office at Vic Park and Eglington I think? Maybe Lawrence. Lots of my friends failed there too.

Oshawa is easy. But dont book a time slot around gm times. 2-330.. roads are a bit busy.
My test guy was funny. There was squirrel crossing the road. I slowed down to let it cross. And he told me 10 points if i hit it. :confused3 And he really meant to hit it.. :rotfl2: He started to laugh, after that i relaxed.
When he had me get on the 401. I got stuck behind a real slow driver, enter the highway doing 60!!!! I started yelling "buddy you are gonna kill us, speed up" forgetting the tester was in the car.
He laughed. and said i passed, even before finishing the test.

Make sure you look in your rearview mirror when stopping.

Great tip!! Thanks!

Awsome story, too. Oshawa is the closest testing centre to me, but for some reason I have it in my head that it's a scary one. I suppose it's the one way streets that get to me there. We don't have them 'round here. :confused3

ummmmmmmmmmmmm don't crash :lmao: . Seriously the best peice of advise anybody can give you is practice practise practice, and relax. Check your mirrors, don't play with the stereo while driving keep it off. Shut your cell phone off before you leave so you won't be tempted to answer it if it goes off. Hands either at 10 and 2, or 8 and 4 with airbags is allowed if I remember correctly. If i'm wrong i'm sure someone will tell you I was wrong. One last thing. Don''t forget to breath. Sounds weird but I have seen people tence up while driving because there nervous and hold there breath. I'm sure you will do fine. Good luck.

Subscribing so I can get info for DS he will be doing his G2 sometime soon

Thanks

Scornelius they only take you down 1 way street. And its easy. They warn you when they want you to turn.
As for parking part. Easy easy. its a street with maybe one car! Same with the 3 point turn.
Basically they have you do a 3 point turn. park, 1 road that you have to do 40, then on the 401, off the the 401 back to the testing center, *1 road*
Also make sure there is nothing hanging off the mirror. And tell them if you are nervous. At least you are honest with them. :) I did.

Come drive around for 20 minutes. You will see its not scary. Just not at GM time. :scared1: 2ish to 330 bad idea. *L* and they dont drive fast here.. *L*

If you do your test here. The office is in a mall parking lot. USe turn signals in and out of the mall area. . I think thats where alot of people are failing.

Also stop behind the white lines.. Where the instructor can see the line from the seat!

good luck.. need more info the exact route let me know.

Our son failed the first time so we decided to sign him up for the Young Driver's G2 exit class just before his next retry. They met him at the office and he used their car for the test. It must of helped because he passed with flying colours.

First off, when you show up to the office you will have to sign an affidavit stating how much experience you have on 80k and 100k highways. You are required to give them an actual number of times you have driven on these type of roadways in the last three months. So if you do it twice daily then you would put 180 times. etc. Anything over 15 is fine for them. Remember though it is a legal document you are signing. The car that you plan on using make sure all the brake lights/signal lights/horn work as they will check these as well as your sticker being valid and for any cracks in the windshield. Now you will actually be able to go on the test...... This test, observation is a major factor show them that you are checking your rearview mirror at least every ten seconds(i recommend to my students 5-8 secs) use a slight head bob even if you don't usually do that as it will make it more obvious to the examiner that you are checking. Use this technique as well when checking side streets and train tracks by using a side to side (left-centre-right) check. You will be required to show them a 3 point turn, parallel park, and a road side stop. Also you will be entering and exiting the expressway twice. Make sure that you are up to proper speed when entering and that you don't slow down exiting until you are into the exiting lane. (at all times on the expressway you are at the legal speed limit and no higher or lower unless traffic is preventing you from going the speed limit). At the very beginning make sure to ask the examiner about the expressway portion of the test whether or not they would prefer that you drive with the flow of traffic or only at the posted speed limit. I have heard that some centres want you to drive with the flow of traffic but I cannot confirm this that is why I am telling you to ask at the very beginning to be safe. They will be taking you through speed zone changes to see if you can adjust quickly and keep the proper speed limits. Also they may ask you to do extra lane changes on the expressway and in-town. Watch your stops (no rolling stops) I always tell my students to stop and say 75 dollars while they are waiting as if they roll one stop that is what it costs to redo the test. Take your proper left turn waiting position in the intersection and keep your wheels straight while waiting as if you slightly turn them even alittle your test will be done. No matter what or how you are doing look confident! If the examiner feels you are not sure of yourself they are more likely going to find a way to bring you back. Remember you will make mistakes just don't break the law or do anything dangerous and you should be fine. Pay attention to what you are doing and not the examiner when the pen starts moving. They tend to write down situations they want to remember to mention later on. 90-95% of roadtests are failed because of observation skills. (ie. turning with pedestrians in crosswalk, turning into wrong lane, turning from wrong lane, cyclists, not yielding when required, etc.) Hope this helps!
