Osbourne Lights NOT showing this year

disneyberry - I saw the article at http://www.wdwmagic.com/disney.htm also and was thinking the same thing - maybe there will be some lights after all!! We can certainly hope!!

Seems to me Disney could use this to promote tourism this season. Hype this as the last year the Osborne lights will be shown on Residential Street and people will come to see them!!

Thanks for positng that link. Maybe there is hope. I had never had much desire to go to WDW over Christmas mainly because Im worried about cold weather, but after seeing pictures of the Osbourne lights I really started thinking it would be worth putting up with crowds and cold weather to see them along with the other decorations...and we are going for it. I would be so bummed if they did have them now.

..that they're not going to be available for viewing this Christmas; they really ARE quite breathtaking....:(

It was only a rumor and I had a feeling that they would NOT do away with Osborne lights. Thank you for the link with the encouraging news!

I read on another web sight that the Osborne lights
will be up this year. I hope its true. But no news
from Disney about the lights at this time when thay do
I will Post it.

:D

I certainly hope that the article is right--I really want to see the Osborne Lights! :)

for those of you who haven't done so yet, if you have a few minutes to write a quick email to WDW expressing how you would be disappointed if the Osborne Lights weren't shown this year, i'm sure that would help them realize how many people they will let down!

WDW.Guest.Communications@disneyworld.com

Wendy L, i hope you hear from WDW soon.
i'm also going to give them my phone# too, and will post an update if/when i ever hear from them.

I think the power of emails is working!!! Beginning to sound like the lights will be up!! Keep sending those emails til we hear they are going up for sure!!

My husband and I have both written to Disney expressing our dismay over the rumor the osborne lights may not be up this year. Haven't heard anything back yet, but encouraged by the link to the article that the stunt show may be delayed and the lights will once again shine. They are indeed the hilight of our annual early December trip to celebrate the holidays. Just wouldn't be the same without them! My thanks to one and all who have also taken the time to write to Disney. Keep writing....

Here is a copy of the 6/18 update on the stunt show from WDWMagic.com that mentions the Osborne Lights
Information now suggests that the stunt show preparations have just been delayed. The dilemma facing planners is what to do with the Osborne lights if residential street is removed. Current thinking (which as always changes daily!) suggests that the demolition of residential street will begin after the Osborne lights are run this Christmas. The tram tour will then be rerouted to bypass the former residential street. Planners are also looking for ways to provide additional things to see a long the tour once residential street is removed. After this year. the Osborne lights are being considered for installation along New York Street and/or elsewhere.
Hopefully this will be what happens and we won't have to miss the lights this year. (I hope, I hope, I hope...):earseek:

Ok, I took the time & sent them my email too!! :) Here's seeing what happens....

Here's the following message that I just received from my email that I sent yesterday...

As I said in my email, I am just one voice willing to speak up for the MANY that are very disappointed! Don't stop now, keep sending those emails!!! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I got the same e-mail. I'm hoping to hear good news. Keeping my fingers crossed!

disneydan551 and funhouse8 I originally e-mailed Disney on 06.03.2003 I received an automated response the next day and then another response on 06.10.2003 asking for my tel number. To date I have not received a telephone call. I am slightly disappointed with Disney as I feel they are being very unfair. If the Lights are to be cancelled this year then they should just come out and say. What with the Lights and now Fantasmic rumoured to be closed, all the extra special things I have been telling the girls about aren't going to be there.

Wendy

I didn't hear anything about Fantasmic. What did you hear? I hope this isn't true. Please tell me more. Thanks, Gina

Fantasmic is not closing. That rumor is untrue.

The rumor is on Screamscape but it appears to be for 2004/2005.

>>2004/2005 - Fantasmic Rehab - Rumor - (6/20/03) Insiders report that Fantasmic is reported to go down sometime after the Summer season for a rehab that may last up to three months.
(6/16/03) We’ve heard one rumor claiming that Fantasmic may go down for a lengthy rehab and a few show changes at some point in the next year or two. Up for removal is the lame Pochontas segment... thank god. A pirate ship segment could be added instead... though this could be for a Peter Pan segment like Disneyland’s version or perhaps a tie-in to the new feature film if it is a hit. I almost wouldn’t mind seeing them go back to the old “Fantasmic Hollywood” concept they once pitched that would add many famous moments from Disney films, such as using the hull of one of the old 20K Subs fitted with a giant squid animatronic monster attacking stunt-men on the hull trying to fight it off. Anyone know more? <<<<

I nearly fell over yesterday when I received a call from the Executive Offices of WDW, in regards to my email.

The nice gentleman that returned my call said that they were still in discussion about the issue of the lights and no decision had been made at this time.

I told him that my two cents was that I strongly desired to see the lights up this year. I also told him about the discussion on this board and how everyone wanted them back. He said they do take the opinions of the patrons into strong consideration, so please if you haven't yet emailed, do it! It does matter.

It does sound like there is hope, and it really sounds like they are listening. Let's hope it pays off and goes our way.

Mary

Unfortunately, there isn't room for a pirate ship.
