Osbourne Lights NOT showing this year

Well, I got "the call" just now. From the executive offices of Walt Disney World. It was vague, essentially she just said thanks for emailing us, and she sent it on to the executives. She said they didn't know what they would do about the lights this year. I asked her if she knew when a decision would be made, and of course she didn't know. I also mentioned having read this online and there are many people who are upset, changing plans, etc. And she said they were aware of it, and have received many emails. So keep 'em coming, it might make a difference.

According to the boards on mgmstudios.org, the Auto Stunt Show is a GO for construction, and the Osborne Lights are a NO GO for 2003.
Sorry! :(

If what you are saying is true, then the executive office just outright lied.

Well, if you are right..then Universal and the Macy floats it is, the heck with MGM this year.

A stunt show taking precedence over the lights...unbelieveable.

I heard that AP holders were invited to a *sneak peek* at the lights the weekend before Thanksgiving. This is our first year as AP holders and we're counting that in as one of the perks  , I'm hoping that the lights will be up and I'm sending my email now. You know it's the squeaky wheel that gets oiled!!

I sent an email and mentioned that we are getting married at Disney on 11/22/03 and had hoped to see the lights on our honeymoon. I will let you know if we get a response.

Hi ChipsCinderelly, I just wanted to say that we will be there on your wedding date staying at the Poly. Just wanted to say congrats!!

just another update from wdwmagic...

:( doesn't look good.
the only way Osborne Lights will still go on is if they do the decorations somewhere else like NY Street.
argh.

looks like our emails did not make a big enough impression soon enough.
if they're demolishing Residential St this week.... *sigh*

well, maybe we can still convince Disney to put on half the lights spectacle somewhere else.

It just makes me mad!!!     When I got that phone call last week, they had to have known already that they had the demolition in place, and ready to go. Why even bother with a phone call.

I just received an email from Disney asking for a contact number for a representative to call me. Why bother? I told them how I felt in the email, so what will they do? Just call me and say "duuuhhh, I don't know." argh.
Oh well, a Christmas in Disney is still better than a Christmas anywhere else, not going to let it get me down!

Doesn't anyone else think that they will put on a light show of some magnitude? With all the competition within the Orlando area, I can't believe that WDW will just let MGM go without something special to draw the crowds... would they?

That's so true-at least for me. I just told DS this morning that the only time I look forward to going to MGM is to see the Osborne Lights (Sorry all you fans of RnR, TOT, Fantasmic, etc.)

Do Universal or Sea World have any special Christmas events?

Universal does a Macy's Christmas parade with the balloons and such. I was looking into going this year maybe. If anyone has any links to pics of it, please post!

Universal also has something called Grinchmas - no idea what that is all about. Seaworld is kind of a different thing - I was mostly referring to Universal vs. WDW.

Well, it's definitely true that there was a Cast Event last night. Our DD is a CM and after she finished Fantasmic she dashed over to say goodbye to the Golden Girls' and Empty Nest houses. She said the notification of the Cast Event was very "last minute"--at least to her group of CM's. DD doesn't know anything about Osbourne Light except for the rumor that eventually they'll be on NY Street. Personally, I just can't see how all those lights could possible fit on NY Street. While, I agree that that section of the Park could use an attraction, a stunt show which might eliminate the gorgeous Osbourne Lights display seems ridiculous to me.

Here's what I received from WDW Guest Services, yesterday:

Dear Bill, Thank you for contacting WALT DISNEY WORLD!
At this time, Disney's MGM Studios is developing "Residential Street" as a new stunt show attraction. As a result, the Osborne Spectacle of Lights will not be presented this year. We are considering several other holiday enhancements for
Disney's MGM Studios and will share details as they become available.
While we realize that it is impossible to please everyone at all times with the decisions that are made, it is always our goal to provide a quality "show" for our Guests. Please know that we are exploring other options for presenting this experience in the future.
If you have questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact us. Please include your full name, E-Mail address, and reservation number if applicable on all correspondence.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Betsy Mayer

I've been following this thread for awhile, hoping for good news regarding the Lights...if this email is legit, sounds like the first "official" word we've seen that the Lights will not be on this year. :( We were there but missed them last December (what was I thinking??) so I'm especially bummed to have to miss them again this year. Although the email says they are "considering several other holiday enhancements" for the Studios, I'm curious to know what they are considering for THIS year...

I have just been so upset over this. Yesterday I revised my itinerary and MGM is now down to 1/2 day. Although I am considering perhaps checking out what Universal has. Does anyone have a link for the universal Christmas happenings?

I've said this befor there is more to see then the Osborne
lights. Don't get me wrong I love the lights and it makes
me sad not to see then but you have the Magic Kingdom
and more. Like the MVMCP. Universal is not for me I don't
like that kind of ride and Iam sure Disney MGM will come
up with something special for you to see I hope.
