Orlando Theme Parks Hurricane Update Thread (Direct list of closures related to Disney on page 10)

Breaking!
Walt Disney World parks to close at 5PM today and remain closed on Friday.

New board member here but a member of the media. Do you know when we can expect an official announcement from TWDC regarding the closures?

Thanks!

Disney has not released a press releases yet. CMs are being alerted first then an official release should be sent out.

Things got back to normal pretty quickly after Hurricane Charlie, right? I know it's too early to tell- depends on too many unknowns, but there's no reason to think that things will still be effected by next week...? I'm wondering if there's any chance that we would get bumped from our reservations at the end of next week...
(I really don't want to tie up a phone line to Disney right now when there are people in urgent need to change their trips!)

I've got some concerns too, I'm scheduled to visit with my family for the end of October and hope that the damage and recovery are minimal. But my biggest priority is the safety and well-being of the CMs and guests currently on property.

Yeah, I feel really bad being concerned about my trip when there are so many MUCH MORE important things for everyone to be worried about! So many thanks to the CMs who are willing to stay away from their home and loved ones to help take care of the guests (and properties!)

Might be old news now, but just read on another site that Poly Villas and Saratoga Treehouse Bungalows being evacuated. Guests being moved to more substantial shelter.

They started moving them yesterday I believe.

At mk now, nobody is telling us anything the my Disney experience app is blocked by an announcement that the Halloween party is cancelled.

We are supposed to arrive Saturday. We have tix for Halloween party Tuesday night. Obviously the weather will be passed by then. But we are considering cancelling becasuse we don't want to drive into a mess of down power lines, empty groceries, etc. I'm wondering if we'll have any chance of a refund on the party tix.

Please call 407-WDI-SNEY and speak with guest relations regarding anything you should or want to report.

How many times has WDW closed for hurricanes before? Was it ever multiple days?
First time WDW didn't open any of its gates was in September of 1999 for hurricane Floyd, I had family staying at the contemporary and they may a handful of people there who were evaced from the fort.
Another time the parks didn't open for two days was for hurricane Charlie.
Other than the two above mentioned hurricanes WDW has always opened as scheduled every morning. Parks have closed early for a variety of storms every year, and as well as 9/11.

Just got a call from WDW emergency management, Rideout crews are now fully active and cast have been given there meeting times, places and where they'll be accommodated during their up to 72hr shift. Once again they were not happy that I was on vacation.. if anyone wants to report at 5pm for me let me know and I'll tell you the meeting place!

Another time the parks didn't open for two days was for hurricane Charlie.

IIRC for Charley, Parks closed at 4 PM in advance of overnight landfall, we were confined to our hotels for the night (my fam was at Yacht Club, so we had characters entertaining us in the lobby and open restaurants), and parks were open on a delayed basis the next day. The monorail was down and there were some power issues, but otherwise everything was up and running. I can't stress enough how amazing CMs were during the hurricane.

I was just down there last week and really didn't notice but are all of Disney's power infrastructures below ground? I know the MK and assume all parks are but didn't know about all the other areas, hotels, etc...

No thanks. Knowing my luck, I would be stationed on that balloon thing at Springs. pirate:
