Orlando Theme Parks Hurricane Update Thread (Direct list of closures related to Disney on page 10)

Reports are Mickey's not so scary halloween party will be canceled for Thursday Oct. 6th

Guests call 407-566-4985 for more info

I posted this on the main thread on TP&S, but if anyone needs a room - use my Marriott code (MMF) for a discounted rate. There are copious options available still taking bookings for tomorrow through the weekend. There are tons of properties still taking bookings close to Disney, and some really nice options in there (Gaylord, JW Marriott, Renaissance, all the units at World Village).

I know it's not Disney, but most are interior-facing door hotels, which mean you can still move around inside the property if things truly do get bad.

I actually never thought about it until you posted this but if you're staying in a Disney Value or Moderate, you may be trapped in your hotel room during a bad hurricane (unless you wanted to brave the weather which many with kids won't want to do). At least in a non-motel style hotel, you could go to other areas of the hotel, get food, etc. Even if you wanted to go fill up your drink mug, you would have to brave the elements.

If you actually think about it, there is a lot of rooms that don't have both an interior door and int he same building as the food or shops. It's not just value and moderate that have more stuck in the room situations. Also I doubt disney would even give you the option and I recall reading threads about how they were warned that once it starts there is no food options so make sure your room has what you need for several days.

And that's not counting the resorts with large window walls that I don't think I woudl feel safe being in the path of projectiles even if inside. (or holes for monorails to go in and out)

The contemporary has physical steel doors on the monorail entrance air doors that are closed once the system shuts down and high winds are present. I heard that maintenance would be closing them tonight.

Any updates on DCL?
No, same information that was posted yesterday afternoon. If Matthew returns to Cat 4 status and follows the projected path right up the Florida coast, you'd think there would be major damage to Port Canaveral. It could take at least days to get the port back up and running after the hurricane passes. Not good for people who are currently sailing on the Fantasy and Dream.

But, sadly, all CMs with shifts scheduled for tonight are being told they are "required" to show up for work. This even includes the MNSSHP CMs - why do they need to arrive to a park that will close at 7:00p?

Will keep updating as I hear more.

At CBR they are moving the movables

Hundreds of MNSSHP entertainment CMs will arrive wearing t-shirts and shorts. They won't be any help at all onstage.

I think it's just to give the perception that all operations are normal until Disney makes an official announcement regarding any type of closure.

FOR ALL OF YOU IN ORLANDO; the storm has changed and I'm adding some good info here from the ORLANDO meteorologist. If you do twitter, follow him.

It's not to alarm only to be aware of your surroundings.

It is important to be in your hotel room, home etc by 5 pm tonight. Transportation back to where you need to be might not be available.

If you can get there sooner, do - so you can charge up EVERYTHING, phones, computers, battery packs, ipads, ipods ...........

If you can grab some snacks and water etc to keep in your room. It won't be so long that you would starve of course but a snack here and there can keep the cranky down.

Stay away from windows and close your drapes - this much wind = projectiles and you will never move fast enough to avoid. You'll likely never see it coming. STAY INSIDE your room if you have an exterior door.

Disney guests, REMEMBER, when you call the front desk you are getting a call center maybe not even in Orlando. They truly don't know what is going on during a storm.

Turn on your TV and surf to see if hotel will keep updates on one of the channels.

Be very aware once you do go outside ... these storms stir up all the critters and they look for safety as well. You may cross path with wildlife you normally don't see.

Our parks will be closed today and tomorrow (10/6 & 10/7) due to #HurricaneMatthew. We will reopen Saturday, 10/8 at 10am. Stay safe!

Orlando International Airport suspending operations at 8pm tonight

Updating for those in Atlanta:
Disney moved up flights for the team but the earliest was 8:00p tonight. With all the advisories to stay off the roads by 5:00p, Disney has canceled and will not send a team from WDW to Atlanta. It's also confirmed that Mickey won't be able to arrive via LAX. So, no characters for the grand re-opening and meet and greets thanks to Matthew. :(

Several updates here. If you are in the Orlando area stay safe, stay home, don't go out.

Rumor is right now an official decision should be made within the next 90 minutes but Disney parks are said to close at 5PM today and remain closed tomorrow.

Universal said to follow this.
