Orlando Smackdown: Dis vs. Uni. Ch.16 Japan Hates me, Just Hates me 7-13

Sorry the FJ was a disappointment. I'm not a big HP person, so it would probably all be lost on me.

Those nachos sound delicious! How on earth do you eat them for breakfast though? :scared1: That would likely have been the end of my fun for the day.

I know what that video is. It's the Mystic Fountain right by Sinbad's Voyage, before you get to Potter. It snores when inactive. That's how it draws you in. Then when you least expect it, it wakes up and squirts water at you.

That sounds cool.. I like a fountain that draws you in and then gets you wet.:rotfl2:

On Sunday I ate birthday cake for breakfast so I can totally relate to eating nachos at that hour.

I'm not sure if reading Nebo's trip report is making me want to go to Universal or not. I've only been there once, and I got whiplash on the Back to the Future ride. It's pretty much my only memory of the place. Oh, and a cheesy shark jumping up out of the water. My DD liked the HP movies but is not a rabid fan, so she hasn't been pushing it.

Plus, I have a sneaky suspicion the final score won't be tipped towards Uni, even if he has to cheat. ;)

Some people like Uni, then there are your WDW faithfuls. I'm not a WDW faithful. :scared1: I can see the lynch mob coming for me now. I enjoy Uni and Sea World as well. One thing I've learned is not to compare. I commended Nebo earlier for trying to compare. :worship: While at the parks, if you try to compare one to the other, then you'll find you won't have a good time. Especially if you're a WDW faithful. You'll be looking for every little negative thing you can find. I've read a lot of threads on here where people say they didn't have a good time at Uni because Disney does this better than Uni, or you would never see Disney doing that. Gotta keep an open mind.

In the end, don't really matter to me who wins. I have my favorites at each and love each for what they have to offer. IMO though, neither Uni or WDW has the best roller coaster in Orlando. Sea World has the best coaster in Orlando. Manta. :thumbsup2

Mike,,, I sure hope we can still go around September or so,,,, we first need to see how the taxes,,,(and refund) turn out,,,and I've got to decide also on whether or not to have this secondary cataract that I've developed in my "better" eye removed.

I wanted to reply to this one a while back. We're ready to go in September. Just give me the dates. If not, we'll go for you anyways. Try to become DLR experts and have everything down by the time we all go.

Since we were at Uni not too long after Nebo and Smidgy, lets see how I can rip this chapter to shreds.

Now that I had these teeth pulled, I also quit shaving, figuring, even though i just shaved off my moustache, what's the use, I'm still going to look like a moron anyway.
And she now wants to see what I look like with a goatee, you know, hair on my chinny chin chin, since I also barely have any hair on my shinny shin shin. (thanks a lot, Mike, you started this)

ME?! I started this? Man I didn't even have my day in court and I'm already guilty by association. But I have to object, I do believe it was you that started this whole thing when you shaved off your moustache.

I merely went off of what you started. Here's my proof.
And Smidgy's not too happy with me,,, right before my tooth surgery,, I took my face off.
She doesn't like me without my face,, especially the one that's left with no hair on it..Sorry,,, I didn't want this stupid bushy thing in the way for the surgeon. I start out going for the Sam Elliott look, and end up like Wilfred Brimley. not good,, so I made it go aaway.
Smidgy and Lady H have something in common then. I usually grow a beard in winter and shave it off as it gets warmer. I have to give advanced notice of when I plan to shave it off so it's not much of a shock.

And it's already itching!)

And that's the exact reason I shave it off. Also, just curious. Are you growing the moustache and goatee? Or just the goatee? I don't think I've ever seen one without the other.

and then for dinner at Jimmie's Buffet, Margaritaville style.

This a must for us when we go.

Oh, but before you enter into the CityWalk area,, you have to go past a checkpoint to make sure you aren't bringing in any alcohol, as if somebody would do that.

How did you know Lady H and I did that? Oh I know. It's because you taught us.

Right before we rounded the bend to meet "checkpoint Chairlie' Smidgy slugged down the rest of her Fuzzy Cup drink.
And I wasn't in the mood to slug anything down just yet.

Smidgy glared at me,, "She's just going to take it away from you"

"We'll see".

After going through Diane's pack,, the girl asks me what's in my coffee cup.

"You just answered your own question" I told her.

She laughed, nodded her head to go on, and Smidgy glared even harder.

:rotfl: I'll have to remember this for next time. I do enjoy some Kahula in my coffee though. So technically I wouldn't be lying. :rolleyes1

And once again,,, The Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rocket. Or is it Rock it?

100_2236.jpg

Rockit actually. Not the best coaster at Uni, but not bad. D'Sis and I only rode this one 4 times. Or was it 5? If she's still around, JagQT may be able to tell me. She counted how many times we went on each coaster.

Back to Island's of Adventure.

That was fast. Not surprising though. With all the improvements going on at the moment, I felt like there wasn't much to see on the Uni side. Did you get the same impression? I can hardly wait until its all done though.

It was just getting dark, and our first stop on the way to Potterville was to see the new and improved Spideyman.

Well, less than a ten minute wait,, no point in even using our front of line privelages. As for them making it new and improved? Well, they did, and yes, they did that too.

Only it's not as good!

At least to me,, but she agreed with me as well.

And I'll agree with you to.

The new digital images are sharper, more detailed,,, the sound improved as well, the simulation tied in even tighter to what's happending on screen.

But the OMG factor isn't quite as it used to be.

Especially what used to be the heart stopping fall at the end,,, now it so clear it, it's too cartoony,,, not scary like it was. The feeling of falling 40 stories just isn't there anymore. And for me,, no,, I'm not seeing 3-D like I used to see before,,, but again,, even Diane was;n't quaking like she used to do at the end of it. Oh, itj's still good, it just lost that little something extra that it had.

I really don't remember what it was like the first time we went. We rode it twice just to see if we missed the wow factor the first time, but nope. It was fun, but won't be a must the next trip.

Now I can hardly wait for Transformers though. If it's as good in Orlando, as it is in Hollywood, it blows spiderman away IMO. Of course if you are reading our time dragging, lengthy TR, you'll know we loved this ride.

Continuing on, we passed by Dudley Do=Right's Ripsaw Falls, and apparently I took a short video,,, not sure why,,, maybe after I load it and watch it I'll know.
But we weren't going to ride this now befor dinner, not in the mood to sit in an air conditioned restaurant in November in soaked clothes.

And soaked you will be. Good call on this one. Best to hit all the water rides right away.

The sun is setting fast now, we keep on walking back to Hogwarts. And see the sign now:
Forbidden Journey; 60 minutes.
or was it JoeBiden's Journey; 60 years?

:scared1: I didn't think the wait times still go that high. I guess that's what I get for thinking.

I could not possibly even descibe the route we took.
The best I can say was it was long;
Down a dimly lit long hallway, down a flight of stairs;
another long hallway, past the bones of Peter Petigrew;
This is Hogwarts version of Magic Kingdom's "Utilidors", for employees only. (or for Buzz who's ute was just used as a door.)

A couple of bends in the road,,, and now he stops at an elevator and pushes some buttons, we are going back up now.

For not beginning to be able to describe the route you took, that seems like a pretty detailed description to me.

Another long hallway and finally we end up in a room with about 6 other people, just off to the side of the loading area.
And I kept wondering how did these other idiots get here?

Well since you were right there with the idiots, does that mean you're an......?

I need a t-shirt the same color as a cardboard box, and on the front and back , "FRAGILE" in huge letters.

Hmm. I thought a t-shirt saying "BEWARE" or "WARNING" would be more appropriate.

Then the most surprising thing happened to me on the ride:
after this morning I couldn't wait to ride it at night when I can see better, I just knew it would be an incredible ride,, and see better I did!

And I was kind of unimpressed now.
To use the phrase so many others use in descriptions:
Meh

The ride vehicle and all it's movements was totally impressive,,, but the matching up with the movie screens around you seemed like hit or miss. I also thought the screens were still grainy looking,,, everything stilll mostly at night, and dark, with Harry somewhere constantly shouting, "C'mon, let's go,, look out, bloody hell!"

Oh, it's still a good ride,,,

Too bad you only found it meh. Definitely my favorite ride at Uni.:thumbsup2 We all have our opinions, but mine matters more because I can still see better than you can. :duck: Alright, alright. Kidding of course. No need to get hostile.

One thing though,, the whole area looks really cool at night, well done there.

Whoops. I guess I should've waited until you were completely done with this portion before posting all the pics then. Sorry about that.

One thing I wanted to do but forgot about, was to look for a restroom to see if Moaning Myrtle was peaking into the urinals. I thought that would be a nice touch, to have her image show up in a mirror,,, or a soundtrack playing of her flirting with everybody.

Can you imagine how many men would be missing the urinals if they had her appearing in the mirrors? It's bad enough you can hear her in there. It would be fun if they would've rigged up one of the toilets to splash water when she goes diving in.

Time to go eat, I'm hungry.
For once, no wait really at Margaritaville, got seated right smack dab in front of the stage with a white guy with a guitar singing to us.

Were you sitting outside by chance?

Singing.
The whole time.
Did I mention we were right in front of him?
I could have untied his shoes.

Maybe you should've. Then he would've stopped singing.

Now, I know I haven't kept up with music much lately, but how can somebody sing for an hour,,, and I only really recognized one song?

If its the same guy while we were there, at least you recognized one song. I didn't recognize any.

And the song I did know, I didn't like; "Good times Charlie's got the Blues" Maybe I'm stupid,, but for some reason I kind of expected to hear something by a guy named Jimmy Buffet.

If you sit inside, you'll get a lot of Jimmy Buffet music.

We split an order of the Volcano Nachos,,, and believe me,,, that's all youneed to do in here.
"I don't know, where I'm a gonna go when the volcano blows."

Mmmm. Those are good, and you're right: enough for 3 people. We actually got a free appetizer on our last trip and that's what we ordered. We'll have to get our volcano nacho fix when we go to Vegas in April. That and our 100 oz. Margarita.

It was still kind of early, so made a drink in our DISNEY refillable mugs and took a walk around the lobby/grounds/pool area. Tomorrow we are going to start out by the pool when we wake up,, no rush to anything just take it as it comes.

As the way a vacation should be.

Darn. Work is starting to get in the way. I'll comment more later.

I guess so,, Smidgy told me she figured it out too,, the bad thingt is,, I don't remember taking that little vid!
Fuzzy cups must have been good to me that night.

Those nachos sound delicious! How on earth do you eat them for breakfast though? :scared1: That would likely have been the end of my fun for the day.

My dear Shannon,, best nachos I've ever had,,, anywhere. Gotten them 3 times now,,, never sad I did.
First tiem was in '06, on a trip with our friends Keith and Debbie. Smdigy and Debbie each got a "cheeseburger in Paradise",,, Keith got a Jambalaya,,, I got the nachos,,, that's IT!
170 pound skinny Keith,, finished his jambalaya,, and he was still hungry.
I offered him some volacano nachos,,, he imbibed.
Then he ordered ANOTHER Jambalaya,,,,
and finished that one also.

Now the girls are done with their burgers,,,

I am ready to start selling off parts of my nachos to the highest bidder.

We did finish it that night though, yes, Keith likes to eat!

And no, I didn't pick up the check that night! Couldn't,,, weighed too much,, I would have thrown my back out.

On Sunday I ate birthday cake for breakfast so I can totally relate to eating nachos at that hour.

Nothing wrong in the slightest there,,, let's see,, you have grain,,, eggs,,, milk,,, um,,, milk,,, maybe protein in nuts? Nope, nothing wrong here. (ok,, sorry,,, just curious,,, those last four words,,, without googling,,, sound familiar? yes,,, I'm way out there this time.

I'm not sure if reading Nebo's trip report is making me want to go to Universal or not. I've only been there once, and I got whiplash on the Back to the Future ride. It's pretty much my only memory of the place. Oh, and a cheesy shark jumping up out of the water.

Yeah,,, um,, well,, Oh yeah? But it's GOOD cheese,,, sharp cheddar,,,and I miss BTTF,, compared to the stupid Somepins ride....make that go away!
or awry.]
no, it's already awry, just make it go away

Plus, I have a sneaky suspicion the final score won't be tipped towards Uni, even if he has to cheat. ;)

Butbutbut,,, no,,, I do NOT cheat,,, the score will be what the score will be,,, give me liberty or give me an accurate score,,, my only regret is that I have but one score to give to my country,,, a fastpass saved is a fastpass earned,,, please somebody stop me now,,,The love of Universal is the root of all evils,,,

I can't believe it,, she got me again!

See Mike?
This is why my post count is so low!

The first thing I actually thought of when I read this is Bill Cosby. Ever see his stand up comedy special. He talks about how his wife made him get up and cook the children breakfast. His 4 yr old spots chocolate cake. He thinks it sounds ridiculous, but in the back of his brain, he's processing the ingredients in the cake. "Eggs, eggs are in chocolate cake. And milk, oh goody. And wheat, that's nutrition." So he serves his kids chocolate cake for breakfast.

And as far as the last four words "Nope, nothing wrong here." Sorry, but I had to Google it. They weren't setting off any bells for me. I've only seen the movie once and once IMO, was one time too many. :sad2:

Yesterday in the grocery store I tried to pay for my $8.05 order with a twenty, plus four regular pennies and a pressed penny from MK. It went something like this:

ME: Would you take four pennies plus this one (holds up squashed copper oval)?

CASHIER: No.

ME: It's a good one. From Disney.

CASHIER: Blank look. No comment.

ME: It's Sleepy, see? Gotta admit, that's way better than Dopey, right?

CASHIER: Doesn't move a muscle.

ME: OK. *sigh* Let me dig around for another penny.

Sometimes it doesn't pay to hang out with the real world. Life is much better here on the DIS.

So now that you talked about this park enough I think its safe to comment about my experience here a little.

Not impressed.

I hate that we spent the money we did and I could care less if we ever go back to it.

I like the idea of Harry Potter, but I hated the FBJ ride. Walking through the cue was fun, but the actual ride made me so sick.

I needed a good 30 mins to recover. Rode the ride thinking they were over doing their warnings, nope, it is not good for those motion sick people. Or wusses like me. 30 more seconds and I was going to hurl!

I admit going to the other park to appease Tim, but I will never do it again.

I like all the magic and pixie dust and the little kid feelings Disney gives me.

Just my opinion and I am not trying to take anything away from those of you who like US/IOA.

I know, itj's not the same thing, but I do still like the place,,, as long as we do it first!! And again,, you have to experience STAYING there,,, it changes your whole perspective. glad to see Tim has his name back though, Demonica.
Ooh,,, that's good, I like that, now don't make me have to use that in the future.
But did you do Spiderman and the raft ride? You didn't even do Cat in the Hat, did you? What about Yourasshashadit Park Did you do the River ADVENTURE?

Wait, you mean those words were googleable? Really? I never actually tried to do it, now I have to to see if I got the right movie. Cujo,, right? Or was it Thinner.

Thanks,,, great post and you are right,,, it's better over here.. But it gives me ideas now,,,

Can you sell Toy Story Mania fastpasses on the black market,,, only,,, kind of in the flea market,, exchange manner of speaking?

You get there early,,, pick up as many TSM passes as you can,,, then when they are all gone at one in the afternoon,,,,
you pull a Wimpy;

"I'll gladly give you two TSM passes if you would buy me a corn dog."
Hmmm,, we are usually there for rope drop anyway,, maybe for once it can pay off!

Oh forgot to mention this.

This is for you my sweet Nebo.

The !
Brazilians are here! Scores of them!

Yes, South American tour groups were there, but they were from Argentina and Peru as well as Brazil. They were there in 3 bunches, each staying 2 full weeks, then the next bunch would arrive. A CM told my daughter they had one more bunch to go (ending either this week or next) and would be done for the year. Disney must have offered them a better deal if they would come in January and February.

They made the parks really really crowded almost every one of our days and were not included in the calculations for the crowd calendars - we should have had 2s, 3s and 4s every day. The only good thing was that the tour groups and the cheerleaders did not use the table service restaurants. They were not busy, the service was excellent and the food was great.

I miss Gary!

It's a Hollywood Studios and Epcot day! 7 more mins and I can fast pass Rock N Roller Coater! Love me Aerosmith!

At 9 we already ride TSM with a return FP and this chick beat her DH score!

We were in HS the same day - ate late lunch at Sci Fi.

Wait, you mean those words were googleable? Really? I never actually tried to do it, now I have to to see if I got the right movie. Cujo,, right? Or was it Thinner.

Well my search came up with Cujo. Since I really couldn't get into the movie, I never did hear the line, much less remember it.

Note to self, stay away from WDW in January and February. Sorry to hear about the crowds, but glad the restaurants weren't crowded. Hope you had a good time anyways.

Sorry to disappoint you, but this is the "Winter Latin" season. They come in much bigger numbers from end of June to early August, they didnt just switch months.

The park wasn't too busy that day and the weather was perfect! We left about 2:30 and took a water cab over to Epcot, got to see Boardwalk and Swan and Dolphin close up.
