I live in Oregon so I am used to rain... But what exactly does "rain" mean? And "possible thunderstorms"? Here, when it rains, it rains! And the thunderstorms knock out the power and it is very cold. We are going to be in Orlando Jan 31- Feb 6th. The weather doens't look to good. I would really appreciate any advice on the weather you can give. Thanks!

1: weather forecasts for next week will change 2-3 times per day; it's not really reliable until the night before, and even then, it's wrong almost as often as it's right. You're better off not even looking this far out.

2: Central FL rarely gets pacific NW-style all-day-drizzle/rain. The rain usually sweeps in, and sweeps out again in an hour or so.

That is true.

That is false. In the winter months, when we get a rainy day it usually stays rainy all day, and it's a raw, damp, cold rain. A rainy day in the winter months generally means just that. A rainy day, all day. Plan on one full day of rain and one partial day of rain/drizzle each week. That said, we don't get too many thunderstorms in the winter. It's just "Seattle" rain.

In the summer months the forecast is the same every single day. "Daytime highs in the low 90's with a 50% chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms. Evening lows in the low 70's." <--See, I can be a weather forecaster! ;) Almost every day at some point between 2:00 and 6:00 pm there is a thunderstorm that lasts between 15 minutes and three hours.

I agree with Anne - rain in the winter months doesn't mean those short summer thunderstorms. We get gray, drizzly days just like everyone else.

We've been lucky to have a very mild winter so far - we have had just a few cold days, and they haven't been freezing cold. This morning it was 46 degrees when we got up, but warmed up to 73 today. There was a day or 2 last week where it was in the high 50's for the day's high.

It changes constantly, though; the predictions several days in advance are always changing. I'd wait a bit and see what happens.

Cheers!

Hmm. I guess I've just been lucky then; I've mostly escaped those really nasty days in my late-Feb visits. Or it could just be that, being frozen when I arrive, I don't notice that, for Florida, the weather is awful! ;)
