My huband thinks we'd be better off planning this holiday for early December, due to work schedules, etc. But I'm worried it's going to be too cool weather-wise compared to late August. Can someone please help me with what we expect and what to wear.

Now I'm looking into Holiday Inn Resort vs the HIFS. I think the Resort has private balconies, and the HIFS does not. Is this right? If you've stayed at the REsort, please let me know what you liked or didn't like.

Thank you.

Well, there is going to be a big difference weather-wise. We have travelled twice in early December, and it was quite chilly. I had to buy a sweatshirt, and we did not swim. But we enjoyed the cooler temperatures, and the holiday decorations are beautiful.

Wish I could help you with the resort. I'm not familiar with either of those resorts because we always stay on-site.

Good luck!

Hi disneymama73

Thanks for replying.
If we do go in December we'll have to get some warmer clothes for sure! It's kind of disappointing not to be going when its warmer though so the kids could swim. I'm worried the rides where you get wet won't be as much fun either. One December at Sea World in San Diego we were all FREEZING after sitting in the splash zone at Sea World. Good thing it was the last activity that day. We got into the car as fast as we could and turned on the heat! On the plus side the decorations and possibly tickets to Mickey's Christmas party will be fun.
Our airfare is so expensive that we have to compromise by staying off-site since there are 5 of us. Having kitchen facilities, even just a little fridge and a microwave will be a big help though. Almost as big a help as this site.
Feeling very overwhelmed with life in general right now but planning this holiday is helping.

I mostly lurk on here, but I thought I'd chime in. :)

We went the week before Christmas in 2001. For the first half of our trip, we wore shorts, t-shirts and a light jacket/sweater at night. For the second half of the trip we wore pants, longsleeved shirts and jackets in the morning and evening. The weather in the south during the winter is very unpredictable. For example, over the weekend I wore shorts and this morning it was 20 degrees!

Well, we went to the beach and swam in December, but we are from Minnesota!! When I saw your location as the carribbean, I figured you are coming from a whole different perspective!

We have been there in Feb and froze half to death, but the Dec we were there was really quite nice. I think it's pretty chancy from what I have read. I don't know about those resorts either, but you might want to try a new post over on the Orlando Hotels and Attractions board. That will get you a lot of feedback on those two hotels. Good luck!!

If the weather isn't good for swimming in December, what can I do with the plus on my Hopper ticket? We thought about going to BB, but if the weather isn't good, what are my options? (Of course I realize that the odds of the weather in Florida, being better than the weather in Ohio in December, are very good.;) )

We have gone in August and December, and I prefer December. August is much too humid for my liking, but we are from the central valley of California... When we went in December, there was a mild heat wave hitting the area and we had daily highs of mid to upper 80s with some humidity. We swam in the pools and wore shorts even at night. Lovely :)

I have been several times in December and moved to the Orlando area this December.

It can be warm or cool. When we got there this year it was jacket weather but then it warmed up that you could wear shorts.

The key is layering. My kids always swimmed in Dec.

5 of our last 6 trips have been in December. Only once has it been REALLY cold! Some of the trips we've needed either a fleece or a jacket in the morning and at night, some trips we've worn shorts the whole week! The weather can be iffy; but I think it's the BEST time of the year to go! We love the decorations and atmosphere at Christmas time!

Thanks everyone for your replies...feeling better about December. Can't wait to buy a Mickey sweatshirt!

Be prepared to buy a Mickey hat and gloves too! When we were there early December this past year it got down to about 40 degrees overnight.

Guess who is going to be carrying all this stuff on the days when the kids are warmer...hmm, maybe a stroller would be a good idea!

it reached 30 here last week and everyone was like "wow it's so nice outside" lol Considering it's been minus degrees here in upstate NY and extremely windy. 10 degrees warmer and you'll see us NYers wearing shorts (j/k)

We are also going in December. Is it rainy in december as well?
