Just saw this on the USA today mobile app....great we are staying at boardwalk week before Easter. We did this last year and saw a few groups of drunk idiots at Epcot.

The Website mentioned Epcot and downtown Disney specifically.

Really? That's kinda hard to believe. We've been there for some spring breaks and never experienced any issues whatsoever.

$300 a night WDW hotel rooms aren't conducive to spring break partiers. For whom this does apply, please PM me;)

I was very shocked to see it, it wasn't all that bad last year. There were a few groups of drunk college kids then I thought........hmmmmm Disney for your spring break getting hammered really???? We did Daytona Beach and Padre Island in College......Disney didn't even cross our minds!!!

What I found odd was Disney did nothing to control the few groups just let them be idiots instead of nicely getting them away from the crowds and settling them down.

Interesting. Maybe I've never seen any of that at Disney since about the latest I'm awake and out is 10:30 or so?! The article does give some good vacation spot ideas, though! haha! Thank God I'm past all of that, but it certainly looks fun if you're a college age kid!

we went the past two spring breaks and saw no one visibly drunk except when i looked i looked in the mirror.

Although a lot of college students do hit WDW during spring break it is hardly the wild crowd since most are with family. Moreover, without Pleasure Island night life, it has become less of an attraction for college students so putting Orlando at 5 (when it did not even make the list last year) is unlikely to mean you are going to see anything out of the ordinary at WDW. Also, the big "college" week is usually the third week of March when most colleges have their break and thus those going either of the Easter weeks have even less chance of seeing large numbers college students in a group anywhere.

DH and I were at SSR over spring break in 2007 - said we'd never do that again, and haven't. Noisy, drunkenness, and the litter of bottles, cans, room glasses and 'other' items. I was really surprised and genuinely felt sorry for the CM's that had to clean up the mess. During that trip we stayed in the Congress Park section. Maybe the above was due to the proximity to Downtown Disney?

Disney allows this I don't feel sorry for them

I work at a university. I can tell you that very (very) few of our students are heading to Disney for spring break, and those who do are not going with the primary purpose of getting hammered. Disney simply offers too little on the price vs. party curve. I'm sure the fine people at Coed Magazine have a rigorous methodology*, but I don't buy it one bit.

HA HA.

I could see Downtown Disney being crazy because it's free, but I know when I was a college kid, it was the most bang for the buck because there weren't a whole lot of "bucks" in my pocket at that age. Of course my favorite beverage was "cold and free." I can't see any of the resorts being cheap enough for that crowd. At least not the DVC resorts. Maybe an allstar resort split among 4 or 5 college kids but who chooses Disney for spring break?

because it's free
Being there is free. The drinks aren't free, and most aren't even cheap. While you could go the flask route, there isn't really anything to do but walk around. Heck, I'd bet most college students would rather go to City Walk than DTD. Way better vibe, and still a couple of dance clubs.

My son and two friends are heading down Monday for their spring break. They plan to go to Universal but they are staying at SSR because we have the points so it's free for them. If they went to the beach they would have to pay for rooms. They are planning on drinking but not being too crazy, I hope. My son is a finalist for a police officer position and in the Guard so he really can't/shouldn't do anything too wild.

I am reminding him that there are families in rooms adjacent to them.

I went for Spring Break one year, then drive down to Miami (South Beach) and Key West.... So not too surprised.

IMO Food and Wine is worse. Last time we saw a group of drunk girls making out around the World. It was very annoying because they kept eating at the same food stands we were at.

It's funny, I just reread this and I'm thinking that I'll always be a mom....here I am reminding my son who will be a cop, to behave. :rotfl:

I went to high school and college with guys who became actual honest-to-goodness law enforcement officers. Not a one of them didn't need a reminder from Mom now and again!

I remember going away for spring break on a carnival cruise, and to pay for it we had to squeeze four guys into the cheapest room on the boat. It was something like $500 a guy, and I had to borrow money from my parents, roll all my change and sell a gold coin I had been saving to pay for it. I can't imagine Disney being a cost effective Spring Break spot.

I also can't believe I sold an ounce of gold for $200.

And ever since they closed Pleasure Island, do not see any real attraction for the Spring Break crowd in Orlando. Daytona / Ft Lauderdale / South Beach absolutely. Heck I would join him at South Beach, but I saw a "No 40+ over the hillers allowed during daylight" last time I drove AIA through South Beach.
