Hello,
Can someone please tell me what my options would be if I cancel our June 2003 cruise outside the penalty period? I called member services and the person I spoke to didn't seem so sure. She said I could use the points at Disney (not at DVC resorts) and at the concierge hotels. Is this correct? Any other options?

Thank you.

Mary

You can't use them at a DVC resort and you can't use them for an exchange through II (World Passport Collection).

You can use them to pay for something in the Disney Collection (non-DVC WDW resorts, DL resorts, DLP and/or another DCL cruise).

You could also use them to pay for something in either the Adventurer Collection or the Conceirge Collection.

The points will expire at the end of your use year and cannot be banked.

CarolMN,
Thank you so much for the quick response. I think we will end up endulging in a resort or two from the concierge collection. The cruise is out because I just discovered I am pregnant :).

Thanks again.

Mary

Congrats on the pregnancy!!!!
People tell me the Plaza in NY is great..
I've stayed at Big Cedar Lodge in Branson and it is great..
Good luck and have fun

Sorry you have to cancel your cruise, but I can't think of a better reason. Congratulations!

I don't know if this is an options, but what about of moving the cruise up? You could cruise right before your 24th week, and if it didn't cost more points, you'd only have to pay an other $75 fee. Otherwise, the other posters are correct about point usage. Maybe a trip to WDW in a concierge room?? Now, that would be indulging!!!

My wife cruised twice while pregnant. She had no problems. If you are 6 months or less you might want to think about still taking your trip!

Another option is to rent your points to someone who wants to take a cruise. I rented from someone who was in a similar situation-new baby- and could not honor reservations at the Sagamore. I rented from him and used the points for the cruise.

You may want to use the points at the Sagamore in Bolton's Landing on Lake George. It is a great place and may the last trip you two have before you are you three!!(Assuming this is your first).

Thank you all so much for the warm wishes! This is our 2nd pregnancy-- our DD is going to be 8 years old when the baby is born. After many, many years of trying we finally gave up and that is when I became pregnant. We are still in shock here :).

We thought about moving it up to the last week of May. According to the paper work I received from DCL, it states I can't be in my 24th week upon embarkation. During the last week of May, I would be in my 23rd week upon embarkation and entering my 24th week on the last day of the cruise. Well, I called DCL and they couldn't give me a difinitive answer. They said I *might* be turned away because I would hit my 24th week on the last day of the cruise. I think another phone is probably in order.

Thanks again for all the great advice. I really do want to cruise!! This was to be our first 7 day.

Mary

Congratulations on the new baby!

One word of caution for rescheduling your points since there is one caveat....You must make a reservation at a non-DVC resort more than 60 days before the end of your Use year. You can take the actual trip during this time period but you cannot make reservations. I'm not sure if this applies to points that are already "reservation points" like you have for the cruise and are looking to rebook. However, I'd make sure that the 60 days doesn't still apply if you are approaching the end of your Use Year. (Does that make any sense?)

That caveat doesn't apply to reservation points. MS/DVC would have already turned the associated point inventory over to CRO to rent for cash when the OP made the initial DCL reservation. The reason for the 60 day restriction is that point inventory is often limited within 60 days of arrival and thus MS/DVC would have trouble getting the cash to pay for the non-DVC option. Since DVC should already have the $$ to pay for the points used for the DCL reservation, there is no need for the 60 day restriction.
