I am piecing together a last minute trip. If something pops up as available, will I have the option to cancel any reservations I already have for the same night (s) WHILE holding the desired rooms? Just want to be ready! :) I am trying to avoid borrowing.

No.

The only way to make that work is to have enough points to book the new reservation, then cancel your current one.

Must cancel first and then make new reservation if you want to use points from first reservation. You cannot set up new reservation and then go to page that locks that reservation in for 20 minutes and then cancel first one to get points because system where you locked in new reservation will not recognize the cancellation and replenishment of points. Thus, at 7 months out, when trying to switch ressies on-line, you will face the possibility that someone else will make a reservation that closes out what you want during the time between when you cancel the first reservation and attempt the new one, and thus there is a risk of losing both ressies.

Can we cancel a reservation online or do we have to call MS? When I click on the Modify/Cancel link, I get instructions but no actual option to do it. Is this supposed to be allowed online now?

Yes you should be able to cancel online. The websites are having problems again.

I have been successful 2 times now (the only times I have tried this) in cancelling a reservation while holding the new one I found online. My sisters are on the contracts with me as co-owners and I was trying to help one of my sisters avoid a split stay. With her permission, I logged into her account on one pc and found the room she wanted. While that reservation was being held for the 20 minutes they allow you to complete it (I got to the part where I was to pick which contracts to use as we have several), I logged into my own account on another pc. I cancelled the existing reservation. Then I refreshed the page on my sisters account where the reservation was being held. The points were then there for reuse on the new reservation. I cannot guarantee this will work everytime, and if you can call instead I would. However it was a hard to get room and ms was closed when I did this. You would obviously also have to have access to 2 logins for the same membership and 2 ways to access the dvc member site at the same time. :surfweb: Good luck.

Select 'Upcoming Vacations' from the 'My Vacations' drop down menu. Click 'Travel Plan Details' for the reservation you want to cancel. 'Travel Plan Details' is also the place you can add a dining plan if desired.

Wow, thank you for helping me find that :thumbsup2! It should be more obvious, I think, but it's hidden like a Mickey, ha ha. I actually wanted to know in case I want to switch to another date and need those points right away, like the OP. I don't want to borrow from 2015, either! Thanks !

Or - you could just open another browser window with the same log in to cancel and then refresh.

Good idea, but have you (or anyone) tried this with the same login? Of course, that would be easier. I am always a bit nervous to try something new unless I see that someone has actually successfully done this.
