anyone use this? I am considering switching to save $$ but am looking for unbias facts

TIA

We've had it for maybe 3-4 months and so far so good. There are 2 disadvantages that I could see: 1) if power goes out, you have no phone 2) if you dial 911, your address may not appear on the screen as it would if you had traditional phone service (I believe they're working on making this happen, but I'm not clear on the specifics)

The other thing is that when we switched, you couldn't bring you own phone number. I believe that's changed, but it will cost you a one time fee ($30 is the number that pops into my head, but I could be wrong).

We've had clear connections, no lost calls, nothing like that. The service is excellent that way and it has saved us around $30-35/month compared to what we were paying with Verizon.

Thanks for your post!!! I too was thinking about switching to Optimum voice & online. I was a little concerned about the phone but, figured we could always use our cell phones in an emergency (or we could just keep our other phone line with Verizon).

Just as an FYI, there are at least 2 other services that are just like Optimum voice but are much cheaper: Lingo and vonage. I've had Lingo with no real issues (they say they have resolved the 911 issue but truthfully I haven't known anyone who had to use 911 to fully verify) and Vonage did have that 911 but other than that I've heard ok things. PM if you want to asked any more questions about Lingo.

Thats good to know Lori.. One reason I didnt want to switch is becasue I have had this house number so long I didnt want to change it.

My friend has it and loved it. Only other problem I had with it when I first looked into it was calls to puerto Rico were not included. Now they are. My inlaws live there.

We actually cit off all extras from out phone and only pay $18.00 month. We use our cell phones for long distance.

If we ever do go back with all the bells and whistles I will probably got with opt voice. We already have opt online.
