I am sure this questions has been asked a million times, but I can't seem to locate the answer.

If you are staying at a DVC resort on points (either gifted or rented from a DVC Member) can you, as the guest, opt-out of giving a credit card for the $1500.00 hold? Basically, I am asking, if you do not want to authorize any room keys for purchases, do you still have to give a credit card as a deposit?

Thanks

I believe you can not give your CC. I wanted to clear up something for you. They don't put a $1500 hold on your card, they only check it's valid by placing a temp charge of $1. The 1500 is your spending limit before they charge your card and start again with a "fresh" 1500. Nothing is held on your card prior to that point.

Thanks. I wasn't worried about them a placing a hold on the card, I just was curious if you could choose not to give them a card at all. I have made reservations at many hotels that require a credit card even if I am paying cash for the room. Was wondering if Disney had a similar policy.

I'd be surprised if they wouldn't require some kind of deposit, either a card on file or cash, no matter how you plan to settle the hotel bill. All hotels require this that I've ever used. it is so they have something to use in case you make a bunch of LD phone calls, or rent a bunch of movies, or steal the toaster, etc...etc.

You surely can opt out of "charging" privileges on the room key (never really understood the need for this anyway) but the Hotel will likely require a cash deposit or CC on file.

I would assume that you would need to either leave a cc or cash as a deposit for the room, but I have never heard anyone actually state that is Disney's policy.

Based on my understanding, they do not place a hold on your card for purchasing priveledges or to secure your room.

I've checked in without a credit card before. At BWV in September I did exactly this. I did not want charging and I did not want room charges so I chose not to place a credit card on file.

We never put a key on the room charge and I have never had to put down a deposit or anything else. They were just fine with me saying..'no thanks!"

They ask as a courtesy, you can accept or decline! I've done it both ways depending on lenght of stay and whether or not we do the parks!

They will let you check in without a credit card. (Did that by accident once)

However, the phone won't work for any off property calls and the internet won't work. (And of course you can't charge)

But I thought internet was free when staying on points?

Internet is free when staying on points you own. A guest staying on gifted/rented points probably doesn't qualify.

I hate the express checkout -- I'd rather get the "sadness" envelope and see anything that's being charged to my card, rather than have to get in line and ask for a printout.

A copy of your bill is left on your door by 8:00 AM when using express check out.

I haven't received an envelope on maybe the past 5 DVC stays.

Did you have a CC on file? We always do and have always received the express check out phone call and our bill on the door on check out day. We never go to the Front Desk other than to check in.

Ohh you don't get a bill if you didn't charge anything to your room key. One short trip we didn't charge anything back to the room. We called that morning to find out why we didn't "get the bill". Well, nothing was charged to the room, and it was a points ressie.

I'm not sure about charging. We didn't get an envelope after our BW stay in 2007, had charges, and still had to request the bill. And there were errors on it too -- charged for a breakfast we had used DDP for.

Don't know why we keep getting missed.
