Did anyone else see this? They said that 80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra. They have some before or after photo's at the link. A couple years ago I went to Victoria's Secret and got fitted and turns out I was wearing the wrong size too.

Where do you buy your bra's from? I buy mine from Victoria's Secret, I love them but they're so darn expensive.

I worked at VS in high school and learned early on how to size...but I can guarantee my mom and sis all wear the wrong sizes!!

Oh and I still buy from VS, wish I had the discount though!

Pics 8 & 9 in that link show "MOM JEANS" at their worst - and how much better you could look without them. :teeth:

I worked part time at Macy's in the lingerie department. I was a certified bra fitter. I know I wear the right size. Also, there is SO much more to the size when it comes to proper bra fitting. If you took a 34 C in 5 different bras, they wouldn't necessarily all fit. I tend to find myself, still, looking at women and thinking, oh, your bra is too small or too big or isn't the right cut for your shape.

Wonder what you get for graduation- some kind of cup, I suppose.....

After having my DS i decided to go and get fitted at VS and start buying good bras as mine were constantly breaking and just going to cr*p! well BOY O BOY! was i wearing the wrong size! i know you change after having the baby, butthis was a HUGE change! haha...i bought that new seamless bra and i'm in love!!
In love with a bra! it's amazing and what else is amazing is that the right size makes all the difference!! but now since they are so danr expensive i only have 4 bras :( lots of woolite here :)

It's a pretty easy course. You could fit all the transvestites that would come into our department and want to buy bras :thumbsup2 .

Those pictures are amazing! I REALLY wish more people would take the "no Mom jeans" advice to heart.

Do they still do this at Macy's? I'd love to find out what I should be wearing, but I don't think they have my size in Victoria Secret :) Unfortunately I'm not all that big up front, but I have a large circumference. Not even sure if that makes sense. Basically I need a big girl's size without actually having the "big girls".

On another message board that I belong to, I once posted the correct way to measure yourself to find the proper size. So many women do wear the wrong size and it makes such a huge difference to actual wear the correct size. The girls on that other board were so happy when I told them how to measure and then when they actually had a bar that fit, they were even more excited.

But just the right size is not always the issue either because different styles fit different.

I buy all of my bras at Lane Bryant - which is where I also buy most of my clothes. I found one style which fit well and that's pretty much the one I've stuck with. Occasionally I'll buy a different style for different outfits, but I always try them on first. If I'm going to be wearing the thing all day, it had better fit well.

I think most of the major department stores have folks who can do fitting consultations.

Occasionally they'll even hold special "bra fitting events" and will probably have some kind of special dicount program if you make an appointment for a fitting.

I'm glad I am not the only one. Makes it even tougher to find bras that fit.

Can somebody please post the correct fitting instructions. The Oprah linked site did not have them (or at least I couldn't find them)

My "big girls" will be forever grateful.

I am sure Macy's still has certified fitters on staff.

The fitting instructions are semi-complicated and to get a true fit you really need someone to help.

First, measure around your chest, under your breasts. If you get an even number like 28 add 6 to that number so you have 34, if you get an odd number like 29, add 5 to that number-same 34. That is your band size. Then measure around the fullest part of your bust. If you get the same number you got for your band size you would be a AA (34AA in this example), if you get 1 inch larger you would be an A, 2 inches B, 3 inches C, etc. Now once you get into the full figure line and some of the larger band sizes often you will measure out at your band size, say you measure out at 40", that might be your band size.

You also want the fabric of your bra to cover all of your breast tissue, the space between the cups should lie flat against your chest--this is where it gets tricky because some people don't have a lot of natural separation so they need to find a bra that doesn't have a lot of space between the cups, etc.

You should not have any tissue peeking out over the top of your bra or squirting out the sides of your bra.

For support, the more clasps you have, the more support you will get. A non-padded bra will give you MORE support then a padded bra because it conforms to your breasts better. A padded bra will make you giggle more.

The back of your bra should be under your shoulder blades even with the front of your bra. It should not be below or above the front of your bra--think straight line all the way around.

Putting your bra on the right way makes a difference too. You should actually lean over and "apply" the bra vs putting the bra on top of your breasts. You can also put on the bra and then lift your breasts into place. The underwire/band should be UNDER your breasts, you shouldn't have any peekage going on under your bra.

Now, where a fitter comes in handy, just because you measure out at a 34C or what ever doesn't mean that size in all bras will fit you properly. Some companies tend to run small/big so you may need a different size in that brand. Also the construction/shape of the bra makes a HUGE difference in fit. Some bras are more circular others are more triangular, etc. Finding the right shape of bra is a big challenge.

Hope this helps.

Some times in a case like this we would recommend bra extenders. If you are say a 44B, good luck finding a bra in that size, you might have 2 to choose from. You will have better luck finding a 38B and then getting a bra extender for the extra inches. Another option is if you can find a custom bra shop in your area. There aren't many around so that may or may not be an option.
