I have 100 Direct points for SSR. In the last couple of years I've been toying with the idea of adding on 50 more.
I always thought I would buy direct so that the points would not have the re-sale restrictions and I would save closing costs. So Disney added their own closing costs, yet i was still willing to pay more for no restrictions even though I've never used points for anything other than staying on property.
Now that SSR is going to 130 per point I can tell you without a doubt I will now go re-sale. I can get 100 points re-sale for the price of 50 points Direct.
I'm guessing the increased money brought in by the higher price direct sales will offset the loss of sales to persons like me who are informed of the re-sale market.

That is not where most sales come from retail, most are not that well informed. At the higher costs they can sell less and make as much or more and with less infrastructure.

While it sounds like you as an individual are making a sound, well informed decision, you will have little impact on DVD's operations. They have a finite number of points to sell, and they want to squeeze every last penny out of each point. If you don't buy, there are five others who will. So take satisfaction in making a decision that works for you, but if you're expecting Disney to feel the pain of losing your sale, you're right, I don't think that's going to happen. :)

Yes, probably correct. But at least you benefit by knowing about resale. :thumbsup2

I do think that the wider spread will push more towards resale if they are informed and have even some willingness for it. The cost for impatience or having all options available is going to get to be fairly large unless resale takes a big swing up too.

I was told by DVD management that 50% of their sales are add-ons and 50% new buyers. Their profit on selling to new buyers is far greater then the add-ons and new buyers finance more purchases than existing owners. Disney has tied the loan rate to credit scores to make even more money and they are guaranteed an easy foreclosure. It's not like a house where the Sheriff has to put the owner on the street.
