Opinons- neighbor leaving their balcony door open all night

However, to expect whispering on the balcony is unreasonable. If that's your choice, I have no problem with it but it does not show more respect than someone talking in a reasonable and normal voice.

I don't expect it. That's what I'm trying to say. That's what I would do and it is my opinion that it is more respectful. So agree to disagree there I guess. But I don't expect it.

LOL, one might even make the case it's less respectful because someone will think you're talking about them. Whispering would equal driving 45 on the Interstate, you're within the rules but not any more so than one driving 70 in a 70.

LOL, yes that is definitely another way to look at it. Lord knows I deal with this at work all the time. Everybody loves to whisper.

I completely disagree. As posted, (talking normally 10 pm on the balcony) is the height of respectful and would not be disrespectful at 3 am either. Now we weren't there so is that really the situation, we have no way of truly knowing. That's why my comments are based on a hypothetical with assumptions. As posted there is no way one can make the case of two wrongs here.

I agree with the respect comment because if the person in the room had just a bit more respect for the people on the balcony then instead of being overly dramatic they could have calmly requested to tone it down a bit, hence avoiding what took place instead. Again, imo the family on the balcony did nothing wrong in the first place.

As readers we don't know what was said by who and how it was said.

My daughter says that I yell at her which I never do, my wife tells me that it's the tone that I use.

:earsboy: Bill

As my mom always so eloquently put it, "It's not what you say, but HOW you say it."

That I agree with but that wasn't Amy's point as I understand it, it was the reverse.

Ha ha -the solution: Next time jump over and do this

:worship: :lmao: Problem solved!!!

In all seriousness though, thanks so much for the responses. DH and I were so dumbfounded when the whole thing happened that we couldn't even think. It was only after the fact that we started wondering if the balcony door open was commonplace and had we offended all kinds of people on previous trips.

And yep, I'm still freaked out about the bugs too, mostly because when I get bitten it turns into a week long swollen mess and I don't typically sleep with bug spray on! :crazy2:

Yea that is funny-even kinda shows the reaction you would have gotten from the people in the room, if you really did that, which of course nobody would/should. Kinda like yea yea we get the point. :teacher:

I know I became confused when someone mentioned the person with the door open was entitled. Anyone ever think she may be claustophobic and my feel the need for fresh air?? Of course not. Your right - too worried about me and my experience, screw anyone else that interfers with me and what I want. Hate to see what society will be like in another 10 years.

Since Disney does not have any screens on these doors, and bugs, snakes and lizards are a constant in Florida, I am afraid this is not a viable option considering this would impact the next guest in that room. Also as Dean stated, if one leaves the door open the HVAC has to be turned off and maybe they did turn it off but in Florida I can't imagine that happening.

I think that if they had their door open, then they are asking for more noise. It's really strange that they would sleep with the door open.

At BWV, if you have a Boardwalk View for instance, would she go outside and yell down to the people making noise on the Boardwalk 'til Jelly Rolls closes at like 2am?

We use ear plugs when sleeping at any hotel, I recommend others do the same, it helps take the edge off all the noises going on all around you.

Maybe she needs to book a camp site at Fort Wilderness if she like sleeping with the door open.

It's actually not my schedule at all. But it is my opinion that after 10 pm, most people are settling down for the evening. And it's polite to not make too much noise, knowing you are in close quarters. And I'm not asking for anyone to rearrange their schedule either. Obviously in this certain situation, there were other factors in play such as the other person having their door open and also being rude when they made the request.

If you think I'm rude because I'm saying that after 10pm you shouldn't make too much noise, LOL, so be it.

I agree with you! Me and my kids go to bed really early and we are up SUPER early. But I am always telling them to whisper because others are still sleeping and its the polite thing to do.

We are also very light sleepers...but I have learned to bring a noisy fan and a sound machine and it does a good job of blocking out the noise! ;)

Actually, that happened! One time our room was on the second floor over Big River. It was June and people were out late talking and laughing on the boardwalk. I was sleeping (or trying to) in the living room. All of the sudden around 12:30-1:00am I heard a woman screaming "people are trying to sleep up here!".

We recently returned from a stay at SSR. We were in a 2 bedroom in the corner with a neighboring Balcony opposite the master. I was at my computer when I heard a child (about 4) yelling at the top of her lungs. "I am not a baby", repeatedly . She was sitting on the balcony facing the (closed) slider and yelling this to someone inside. She was also pulling the window pane grid away from the slider glass about 18 inches. I walked out and told her to knock if off. She did, and sheepishly went inside. She was so loud Im sure her parents heard her and were ignoring her. I was irritated to say the least.

That's pretty crazy.

Wonder if she will book Boardwalk view in the future...:crazy2:

Your on vacation and if you want to sit up and talk at night that is your right as long as you are not loud and obnixous. To those that say be inside at 10 pm is like me saying keep your kids quiet and off balcony or running in hallways until 9-10am. How many times in a hotel or DVC do you hear kids running in hallways, jumping on beds or on balconies at 6-7am. Is that any different?

Well maybe this is something no one has to worry about for the next several months! We were there all last week and it's so stinking hot, I can't imagine anyone leaving there door open!
