Grand Floridian VS. the Poly resort

Couple and 1st trip for 5 yr old daughter

The Poly just feels so much more relaxed to me. The GF is absolutely beautiful and the new Alice in Wonderland splash area looks fun for a little one, but I've always thought the resort was too stuffy for me. Plus, I like the quick walk over to the TTC when staying at the Poly. Quick access to the Epcot monorail.

First off I am a girly type of gal, I love pink frilly things. I found the gf not to my liking. Don't get me wrong, it is a beautiful resort, but like the pp stated, it is stuffy. I loved the poly in fact thus far it is our favorite resort. It is a very relaxing tropical feel resort that is so nice. :goodvibes

I love both resorts!

We have stayed at almost all of the disney hotels and dd 1st trips were value and moderates.

Then at age 6 we went to visit GF and she saw the STAIRS:lovestruc

She begged to stay there next time!

As she got older she preferred Poly and now likes CR too!

Really can't go wrong with any of the monorail resorts.

The new play area at GF though seems like a place my kids would have loved at that age. Good luck deciding ::yes::

Both are great resorts, but the Poly is our favorite of the two. The rooms at both are pretty comparable in size, but the Poly rooms feel larger to me for some reason. I don't know if it's the furniture and how it's arranged or what, but the Poly rooms seem more spacious. The GF is a beautiful resort and we do love it, but the tropical atmosphere of the Poly is more to our liking. We love the volcano pool as it backs up to the beach, it's relaxing lying in a hammock while watching the fireworks, and Captain Cooks is our favorite resort CS. You really can't go wrong with either one as they are both great places to stay, but the Poly would be our first choice :goodvibes.

Depends on when you're going. I prefer Poly of the two based on the theme (GF is stuffy and gaudy to me), but I would expect GF to be extra busy after GF DVC opens late October.

Prefer GF, love the lobby and GF cafe. It is a beautiful resort and I never thought it felt stuffy! That being said I'm not a Poly fan at all ( it seems old and outdated to me), but a lot of people love it. Whatever you choose you will have a great time. Enjoy!

Both are great resorts. We stayed at Poly and loved it. They are in the process of refurb ing all the rooms, & halls now. Beautiful lush landscaping, and great beach, nice to watch Wishes and Electric Water Parade from! Great dining here too. No hot tub!!

I never found GF to be stuffy when I've visited. Love the afternoon tea, Narcoossee's & GF cafe. 1900 has a fun dinner buffet with Cinderella, Prince, Step sisters & Step Mother are hilarious. We are staying at GF in August, first time.

I would go with what theming appeals to you.

We've stayed at both and I don't think you could make a bad decision with either.
My DDs prefer the Poly. They love the theming, the lobby, the volcano pool.
I prefer the GF. The service there is above anything I've ever experienced. I love the shops, too.
I can tell you from experience it is not stuffy. We were not treated differently when we wore park attire nor when we returned from AK dripping still from Kali!

Been to both, stayed at both.... didn't care for the GF at all... stuffy, gaudy, pretentious ...non embracing... Didn't speak to me !

Poly, we've done a few stats here .... Enjoyed the ambiance and atmosphere and views from the beach...hot tub means nothing to us... Those things are too hot anywhere on property ... Drawback at Poly, high cost...

CR, great resort, cheaper garden wings and better still, WL.... cheapest of all, in MK area, boat ride to MK and FW and still a deluxe and the theme and style far surpasses Poly and CR... Good luck!

Also, depending on when you go... you might want to check out tikimanpages.com to see the DVC construction schedule for the Poly. That would make a HUGE difference to me. I have heard they are removing the gorgeous fountain in the Poly lobby this year. But plans for DVC are in the works and I wouldn't want to spend the money for the Poly with construction going on all around.

For what it's worth, I know you didn't ask for this, but Port Orleans French Quarter was AMAZING! If I didn't need 3 beds, I would stay there every single time. When I need 3 beds, it is Poly hands down ::yes::

thanks for the info on Poly construction and closings...since they are going in November looks like the Poly might not be a good idea with it starting in Oct...

I like WL, but I wouldn't say it surpasses the monorail resorts just because it is cheaper. Not everyone is concerned with cost when choosing a resort.

I prefer the Poly over GF, but the lack of hot tub is a big bummer.
