Opinions on Rise of The Resistance Timing

Just wanted to get opinions from those that have done the virtual queue, since the last time we were at Hollywood Studios we missed the opening of Galaxy's Edge by a month.
We are landing in Orlando at 10:50am on Sep 4th. I'm guessing that with grabbing luggage, getting the rental car, driving to Beach Club and at the least dropping our bags with bell services... we wouldn't be able to make it in to Hollywood Studios until 1:00pm at best assuming that everything went as smooth as humanly possible.
I would think that if we were lucky enough to score a boarding group at 7am, there is a good chance we wouldn't be at the park in time to use it? Not sure how the times range for that first release.
My understanding is that if you get a boarding pass at 7:00 you are ineligible to try again at 1:00 whether or not you actually show up to use it. I was thinking of just waiting until the 1:00 release, but of course it is highly debatable if we would be through the turnstiles by 1pm.

Just wanted to get the thoughts of those who have done this before. Thanks for your time!

Many have been in your situation. You can try for a 7AM BG and hope for a higher one but if it's lower you may not be able to ride. People have asked a CM to allow them to ride if they miss their BG but are not always allowed to do so.

You can try to get to the park by 1PM to try for a BG then.

It really is a personal decision to make. If arrival day is your only day at DHS then I'd try at 7AM and ask a CM nicely if you can ride if you miss your window.

I would try at 7. Mind you, as we did on Web Slingers, we always try to show up for our virtual queue window on time even if it might be convenient/tempting to try and squeeze another ride in first. However, sometimes dining reservations and such get in the way. Our first time through RotR we were affected by such things and showed up four hours after our return time, no questions asked, no problem. Individual results may vary, I suppose.

One of our return times conflicted with our SciFi lunch reservation. A CM told us to take screenshots of both our SciFi adr and the return time for ROTR. After we ate, we went to ROTR ready to explain, but nobody batted an eye that we were over 1 hour late for our return time.

The CMs at the Guest Experience umbrella told us to always prioritize your dining reservation if you run into a conflict.

We have a similar scenario. Our flight lands before 9am in MCO, we'll be picking up rental car and possibly stopping off at BoardWalk if we have time to drop luggage. The plan was just try for the 1pm BG drop, but now I'm wondering if:

A) We might be able to make it in to HS for 7am BG estimated time window, but...

B) If we get a very low number BG, can we cancel it and try again at 1pm after we checked in to HS?

Good to know. Like I said, one should always plan on making their time, notwithstanding ADR issues, which they could check.

The OP has to decide….take the chance on being there for virtual queue if the get it at 7:00 and maybe getting to use it late, or take the chance on being there by 1:00 to take the chance on securing virtual queue then. Good luck!

In my experience the 7am one is tough. You have,potentially, people all over the country… with or without intentions of actually going to the park. The after sessions… much better odds! At least with our group of 7

But, you can only try for the boarding group if you have a reservation for that day.

Lots of flight delays and long lines at rental car counters recently. I would give less than 10% odds to be in the park by 1pm and definitely have a second day at HS if RotR is a priority. Fwiw, we almost always have better luck getting passes at 1pm than 7am.

Not sure if it’s the same at DHS, but I’m at Disneyland now, and the CMs don’t so much as raise an eyebrow, or ask any questions, even when you show up several hours late for a BG.

It could've also meant that a GET cast member moved them to a different boarding group.

This is not always the case at WDW. Their are reports as current as this week on the main Boarding Group: Rise of the Resistance thread of people being turned away from the ride after missing their BG time and not having a valid (ie. ADR or Savi's Reservation) as reason for missing their BG. I wouldn't want to risk it, at least not at WDW.

Thanks for all the answers! We will definitely have another day at HS (we have 6 park days planned). I'm thinking I will just give 7am a shot and see what happens. I'm feeling like there is a much smaller chance that we will be in HS by 1:00pm.

that’s correct! Sorry my wording definitely could have been better. We were 2-3 hours late and guest services reactivated it and said we could ride “whenever”.

One way you can "grease the skids" and cut out some time is to pack only carry-on luggage. This isn't hard at all -- a rolling carry-on and a day pack carry an amazing amount of clothing -- and save you time waiting for your luggage to show up.

Consider that you can try this, but you'll have no guarantee of success. It might depend upon how full the park is, how busy the ride is (okay, that was a foolish statement -- the ride WILL be busy), and the particular CM you happen to ask.

Two questions only you can answer:
- How important is this ride to you? If you were to miss it, would it be a blip on your radar or a huge disappointment?
- How much would it disappoint you to "spend" your day's ticket on Hollywood Studios, then get in and discover that you couldn't ride?
