opinions on august?

Some of it may depend too on where you are coming from. We live in NJ where August is usually hot and sticky anyway. So our philosophy was "if we're going to be hot and sweaty anyway, it may as well be in Disney!" If you are not used to heat and humidity, then it will be quite an adjustment for you.

This! DC is a swamp so if its going to be 98 degrees and 97 percent humidity might as well be at WDW! Last week of August the last two years. Hot and Humid (and Rainy!) but crowds are lower at the end of August.

We alternate ride/attraction inside/outside.

Totally

We usually do the 2nd week in September but the kids start kindergarten this year so we are going the last week of August. I can't imagine that 2 weeks would make much of a difference weather wise?

As you can tell from the variety of replies, it really depends on your preference and tolerance. We don't mind August. There are many opportunities to find AC - transportation, resorts, meals, shops, rides - and even staying in the shade when possible makes a difference. I just pack a bunch of Dri-Fit or Under Armor golf shirts rather than regular Tshirts and I'm all set.

DH has a week vacation in August. This isn't my ideal time to go because the crowds and the unbearable heat scare me. DS will be 3 if we do end up going. We are not new to the parks so we know how to utilize early morning EMH, mid-day breaks, late evening EMH. If August was your only (foreseeable) chance to go, would you do it?:confused3:confused3

We have been in early August and the last week in August. Go the last week in August. It was so crowded in early August- I mean, NUTS. Packed parks at 2am for EMH, packed restaurants, insanity. Never again. The last week in August was great- normal to low crowd levels.

It's hot- but we are from Houston so we are used to it. We always rest mid day or go to the pool and then go back out at night.

i am so glad you asked this question. We are planning to go in 2016 and we are in a pretty moderate climate (and not accustomed to high humidity). That being said, we did fine in NC and SC in late July. Whatever you choose to do...enjoy your trip!

Check out Frogg Toggs for chilly pads and other cooling products. Will help keep you a little cooler!

We go each year end of Aug. to be honest it is a b\|%h. But it's like childbirth, you kinda forget the pain.

But we deal. For me a luxury would be, being able to go in the spring or late fall. The joy of walking the 10 minutes from room to QS at resort without having to shower or change clothes again when I get back. Having lunch outside in the sun is only a dream. Etc. these are the things we have to give up.

Worse parks are AK and HS. I swear i was going to melt into the asphalt at HS. Dinoland at AK was a challenge.

A/C hopping is the only way. This is why AK and HS is a challenge. Or being stuck at a resort in the boonies and having to walk a straight 10 min in the heat at noon, is rough. MK and Epcot are awesome in this point so many attractions are in door.

But we DEAL. But we have really no choice on when we go. And we do it every year.

We are also younger and heathy. What I dont get is seeing babies and the edlery on scooters/ walkers putting themselves through this. There I do question if people realize we as humans do have limits. 99'degrees, in the sun, with 90 % humidity is not a cake walk.

We've been a few times in August and whilst difficult it is manageable. Last year we found the worst thing was the thunder storms every day. You can carry on your day but then the humidity gets ridiculous. And there's nothing worse than spending all day in Hollywood Studios then finding out Fantasmic is cancelled :( Buttttt if it's the only time you can go (it is with us cause we're teachers) do it without hesitation!!!!!

This year will be our 4th August visit. We do the week before Labour Day when the crowds are significantly lower than mid summer. Very manageable, crowd wise. It's definitely super hot, but that really doesn't bother us. I find there are so many opportunities to cool down in WDW (indoor rides & queues, shops, restaurants, etc...) that it's very manageable. Personally, I like knowing that all I have to pack are shorts and T-shirts and I don't have to worry about needing a sweater in the evening.

We like to book a lot of ADR's and I find that really helps, especially to have one at lunch time because it's a great way to rest and cool down without losing time (have to eat anyway).

The only negative I have for August is I tend to stress about hurricanes leading up to my departure. I don't care so much once I'm there, but I would hate to have flight issues that cut into my vacation time. We came close a couple of years ago when one was hitting the Florida Keys the day we were leaving and they were cancelling flights to Florida as we sat in the airport. Fortunately, Orlando got through, phew! But really, that is my only negative about August.

Our first time taking our two DSs was the 3rd week of August in 2010. It was extremely hot but my thought was better hot at Disney then at home. We also went in December of 2012 which was amazing. Our next trip in 2016 oldest DS will be in middle school so we don't think we want to pull him out of school, so we will probably be back to an August trip. I rather deal with the heat and cheaper resort prices, then the crowds and more expensive prices of the school breaks. DH on the other hand said he was miserable and would never come again in the summer also he was disneyed out for a while (I don't get it:confused3,) , so it looks like our next trip will be just me and the boys braving the August heat.

I was nervous about our first August trip in 2012 and the worry turned to be nothing. Actually, August is our favorite time to go, now. We are going for 2 weeks at the end of this coming August!

Yes, it is hot and muggy. No more hot and muggy then I am at home, though. And, before anyone says anything, YES, I am out in it for hours at home, too...I don't care for sitting in A/C for an extended period of time.

The rain in the PM's helps 1) cool things off, 2)clear out some crowds and 3) makes an afternoon nap even more enjoyable!

Just stay hydrated and lather on the sunscreen. Wear lighter weight/color clothing (although, I will say, I mainly wear black, and I am ok..).

Just go with a good attitude and you should enjoy it!

We went for the 2 middle weeks of Aug. 2014. Yes it was hot, yes there were crowds but we had a great time. We did plan and take breaks, not necessarily always pools, breaks like boat ride to Fort Wilderness for a fun lunch and away from park crowds for a bit. Build in extra quiet times, extra slow times (in AC) and use EMH's. Also look into buying a few of those "evaporative towels" like Froggs Toggs (I think that's a brand of them). They make you feel cooler for longer just using tap water.

ITA- We are considering a Labor Day trip and it's going to be hard bc our last three trips were early May, February, and December. We wore winter clothes all throughout our December trip. But we are looking forward to using the pool. DHS and AK are totally awful in the heat! And I agree- I don't think I'd take an infant in that weather. Actually I believe heat like that is pretty dangerous for infants under 6 months because they can't regulate their body temperatures like older kids and adults can.

Absolutely my 'only' chance?? Yes, I would go under those conditions, but would have to totally exhaust any other possible time!! :goodvibes

What scares me to death - a parent 'wearing' a small infant in that type heat - totally oblivious to the risk they are taking! Their body heat plus the heat index - trapping an innocent baby in a canvas (similar) carrier!!!

We, too, are from NJ. Last time we visited WDW in August, it was actually hotter at home. My family is used to heat/humidity.

My kids aren't so little anymore, so we take long afternoon breaks at the resort and just swim and relax.

That being said, we will be there this coming august!!

:cool1:

We just did the second week of August last year. We usually visit in the "off " seasons of November before Thanksgiving or in the Spring non Easter/Spring break times.

We found the parks themselves quite manageable but the heat and humidity were brutal. They were having the hottest spell of the year and there were no usual afternoon showers for the entire week until the last 2 days.

The crowds thin out the further into August you go. If it's the only time to go I would not hesitate unless you're one that can absolutely not deal with the heat.

I also have to add the worst part of our trip were the people that don't understand the importance of deodorant. Especially when you're jammed into a line queue in small quarters.

We typically avoid the Summer at WDW when we can, and I am a born and raised Floridian used to the humidity and heat (its the humidity that really gets you) but we went down for 3 days last year and are going again for 6 days this year can’t do the usual December trip.

Just avoid being in a park from about noon-5, drink lots of water, and take it nice and easy. Just do be ready to sweat even if you outside for a minute, no getting away from that, welcome to Florida in the summer. :beach:
