I'd be interested to hear opinions of Parrot Cay. We did the 4 day Wonder last year, and had Parrot Cay twice in our dinner rotation. We are cruising again this September and are hoping that we get a different dining rotation. It wasn't that Parrot Cay was horrible or anything, it was just not up to par with the other restaurants. Does anyone else feel this way?

I agree totally. Parrot Cay was our least favorite meal except for the Master Chef Series meal the last night. We only really liked 2 things out of both of our meals - the roasted pineapple and the special of the evening prime rib.

I think that they need to rethink the menu for Parrot Cay. Did you just dislike the menu or the whole atmosphere. We had Tritons twice on our 4 night cruise and preferred the more adult atmosphere in there over Parrot Cay and Animators. Although the show in Animators was kinda cute :D

I liked Parrot Cay the best of the 3 restuarants on our 3 day cruise. To be fair though, we didnt get our pick of food from Tritons. Our waiter picked it out and brought it to our room. I was really disappointed in Animators Pallet, although I did enjoy the Ceasar Salad there. On our upcoming cruise we plan to skip AP for Palo.

Fort Wilderness,

I'd have to say that I felt both the menu and atmosphere were not what I had expected. To begin with we had Parrot Cay on the first night of our cruise. For such a beautiful ship, we were dissapointed with the atmosphere, and decor. The food also wasn't what we had expected for a cruise restaurant. I guess you just expect so much from Disney that it just wasn't up to par with even certain restaurants in WDW. We too, enjoyed the food and atmosphere at Triton's the best. Everything we ate was wonderful. And we also enjoyed everything at Animator's Palate. It was a bit dissapointing eating at Parrot Cay on our last night of the cruise. I will not accept that dinning rotation again for this cruise. As soon as we get to our stateroom and check the rotation, if Parrot Cay is on there twice, I'll be making a change. Like I said, it's not that it was horrible, just simply not good enough.

We liked all 3 dining rooms. We thought each had its own character, ambience, and food style. Yes, each member of our party enjoyed the food on certain nights more than others, but they weren't specific to any of the 3 dining rooms, and everyone had a different preference (just like on most things in life). :smooth: :smooth: :smooth:

I think we all should be glad that DCL offers variety not only in food, but dining room experience as well. I don't know of any other cruise line that provides the similar rotation arrangement. Every one that I've been on, a party is fixed to a particular table in a particular dining room for the entire cruise.
:( :( :(

I would have to say as far as food goes, I enjouyed Lumiere's the best. But if the menu at Lumiere's was in Parrot Cay then I guess I would say the reverse. I wasn't so impressed with Animators appearance. It all depends what rotation you get, I've heard that the same menu is served in all the dining rooms on the same day.

Parrot Cay was my FAVORITE.. (We were on the Magic) I liked AP the least. It just goes to show, everyone can walk away from a similar experience with a TOTALLY different opinion.. I liked the blend of carribean/seafood.. Coconut Shrimp! yummy!

I think the theming of PC is wonderful....It reminds me of the TIKI Birds room at WDW. I always feel cooler in there and love the light fixtures on the walls and ceiling.

I also like the food. Animator's was my least favorite restaurant. I have to say I really have not had a bad meal at any of the restaurants.

As long as I am not cooking or cleaning up, how can it be bad!!!!

I agree totally with this post! But--in Parrot Cay--I kept waiting for the birds to wake up and sing the Tiki song!

I liked Parrot Cay - for a Caribbean Cruise, it set the mood. Perhaps it was because it is the first place we went upon boarding, and we felt already in the tropics. The detailing is very authentic and carefully done, as is everything Disney. I had a jambalaya type dish that was wonderful - very tropical with excellent seafood and just enough African-caribbean seasoning.

I did not care for AP and our second night there we went to Palos.

We liked Parot Cay a lot. AP was my least favorite. At PC, I had 4 appetizers and 1 1/2 desserts, and it was all wonderful. I had coconut shrimp w/ onion rings, seafood salad on greens, potstickers with chicken wings, and the best grilled veggies! Dessert was bananas flambee (YUM) and grilled pineapple (double yum!) I actually liked the desserts there better than anywhere (even Palo's chocolate souffle which was terrific, too).

I am looking forward to PC on our next trip, will skip AP for Palo's on our three day.

I liked Parrot Cay the best of them all...my least favorite was tritons.

1. Palo

2. Tritons / Lumiere's

3. Parrot Cay

4. Animator's

I used to love AP, but my impression of it has diminished with each trip. Conversely, I did not used to like PC. With each cruise, it has been more enjoyable. It is a "fun" place to eat.

I recently cruised the Magic back in April and loved the food in all three of the main restaurants. I thought Lumiere's decor was great (like the main dining rooms on other cruise lines), but I thought both Parrot Cay and Animator's Palette were really kind of... well... lame. The decorations were marginal (plastic looking leaves in AP... and semi-operational video/color "animation" in AP).

On the other hand, Palo's was awesome! Food, service, ambiance? Perfect! Both dinner and brunch were well worth it!

Cheers!

I really do not care for the menu at Parrot Cay. Last time I cruised, I ordered a sirloin steak with the fried sweet potatoes and thought it was the best!!

Remember that if you do not care for the menu, you can always fall back on fish of the day, steak or chicken as your entree and pair it with one of the sides that you find interesting.

The Parrot Cay restaurant setting does not bother us because we have a 5 year old who enjoys it. Out of the 3 adults who travel with us the Parrot Cay menu is the only menu that we do not care for at all. We now try to go to Palo's on that night.

We enjoyed Parrot Cay, but a better example of what Parrot Cay should have been is the Bahama Breeze restaurant chain (www.bahamabreeze.com). They have locations in several states including locations near WDW. The menu's great. The food's great. The atmosphere's great. It's everything that DCL would have wanted Parrot Cay to be.

BTW, the Parrot Cay menu has been revamped more recently than the other menus. I have the updated version, courtesy of wovenwonder, at my web site.

I like the decor in Parrot Cay, but the food is my least favorite. Not that it's bad or anything, just my last choice. That is usually the night we try to do Palo. I miss the old days when there used to be lobster at Parrot Cay on the three-day.

Unfortunately, on our 7 day Western, we had PLAPLAP, and character breakfast was there too, so we ended up eating there 4 times. Our main complaint was that it was TOOOOOO Loud! The engines are apparently underneath the restaurant, and every time we ate there, we were hauling waves to get to the next port. I thought the food was okay, not great. I had some more details of what I didn't like and why in my trip report if anyone cares.
