Opinions needed - long hair in pony, or cut it off?

Okay, so this is kind of an odd question, but I need some thoughts. I have longish hair - about halfway between my shoulders and my bustline. That's on the long side for me. It's very dark brown and straight and thick. In other words, hot.

I generally don't keep my hair this long, and I'm in desperate need of a haircut before we go on our trip in 2.5 weeks (yay!!!!). So, my question is - do I go for a trim and keep it longish for the trip so I can put it up, or do I cut it to chin length, which will be shorter and lighter, but not able to be put in a pony tail?

We're going to WDW the last week in July, so it's going to be hot hot hot! Which would you do?

I'd leave it long and put it up, so you have more versatility.

I'm not best qualified to give advice, though, I haven't had a "real" haircut since I was 3 and my hair's down to my hips. I have it in a constant bun when I'm in WDW!

Well, if you still want to grow it longer, then just the trim. There are many more ways than just a pony to get it off your neck.
If you are ready to go short, then now is the time to do it.
I have had long (to the bra strap or longer), curly hair for over 10 years. With the length, the curl becomes waves and bugs me. So last week I cut all mine off to the chin/shoulder. Didn't tell anyone, and from the front you almost can't tell so it takes people some time to figure it out. I am so excited to have short hair for our trip in 2 weeks!

Oh, we're cutting it off...I'm just trying to figure out whether to do it before or after the trip :) I'm wondering which way will be cooler - long and up or short and down.

The benefit of short and down is that it's easier to wear a hat, which might be the best bet overall.

hmmmmm

Just got back, and I have longer hair than I have had in a while. I had it pulled back all week, I would wear a baseball hat and pull the ponytail thru the back. My sister has short, chin length hair and she couldn't pull it back and wished that she could have. Leave it and cut it when you back.

Have fun:)

Another vote to leave it long. I cut mine just below my chin before our last trip and totally regretted it. The style was cute, but the heat and humidity turned my head into a sweaty ball of frizz, eewwww! I was really wishing it was long enough to pull back, would have been much more attractive in our pictures!:rotfl:

I concur - leave it long for now so you can pull it up. Sounds like you want to cut it to that in-between length of "not super short and not long enough to pull back" - and that's just HOT because you can't get it off the back of your neck.

Plus - a pony tail is, well, a pony tail in pictures. Are you going to fret if the new-do doesn't look good in pictures?

Long enough to get it up off your neck in a pony tail. I've had my hair thinned before too. So you could get it cut shorter, as long as it's long enough, and thinned, and that would help.

I can't stand hair against my neck when I'm hot.

Have a GREAT trip! pixiedust:

So, it sounds like the consensus, especially from the "been there, done that" crowd, is to leave it long. Long it is. I'll save the haircut for after the trip!

Thanks for all the opinions! Very helpful!

I had mine long in August 2010 during my trip. The week after I got back I cut it all off. (pixie cut) I wish I'd done that before hand. But on our last trip I was letting it grow out and it was close to my chin. Long enough to be annoying but too short to pull back, and I hated that because it was windblown and in the way all the time. So it depends on how short you want to go.

LEAVE IT LONG! I grow my hair out every summer so I can put it up & off my neck. It just feels icky (technical term there) to have hair hanging on a hot sweaty neck in the parks. Bangs are equally annoying because the hang on your forehead & make it harder to keep cool.

I cut my hair to that "in between" length right before a Disney trip once and I regretted it. I hated trying to pull it up and having much of it fall out. And I really wanted it up. So another vote for leaving it longer until after you get back.

Agree...I stopped cutting my hair about a year ago...and love it longer.:thumbsup2
I wear my hair up all the time.

:joker:

You can have the best of both worlds with an inverted bob. It's short in the back but long in the front so you can pull it back with some clips. It's an easy cut to manage and great during the summer.

I'd get a trim so it's healthy but keep it long that way you can throw it up in a cute bun or ponytail. I had short hair for my most recent trip and it was a pain having to constantly adjust the pinned up the short hairs that fell out of my bun.

Pony tail The longer, the better. It is the easiest to deal with at WDW.

It doesn't matter whether it's straight or curly - it really IS the easiest. Do yourself a favor. Pony tail it! ::yes::

Depends on how short you're planning to go. If you're talking chin length (which I don't really consider short) then I say leave it long and go the ponytail route. But if you're talking really short like a pixie cut, then cut it before you go. I wear my hair super short and it's sooooo much cooler and easier to deal with than long hair. I'll never grow my hair out again!
