Opening Ceremonies

I laughed at Bob Costas calling the US hats "berets".... The last I recalled those were known as "driving caps".

OK... We are now hosting players from Puerto Rico that are in town for the Little League "Big League" Softball World Series. We're sitting around our TV waiting patiently for PR's turn to march in to the stadium. I look up on-line and see that they are #129 in line. Finally around 10:30 they march in.... NBC shows the athletes for a few seconds, cuts to the President standing to acknowledge them... and NBC cuts away for a Coke commercial. Thanks NBC, you just dissed some fellow countrymen!!!

Really? They have been cutting away and coming back to the same place :confused3

I don't really get why we have to miss countries at all.... it's freakin taped footage!

I also noticed the cheerleaders have a lot less movement going on right now - they were bouncing to everyone and now they're sorta kinda moving their feet. Can't blame them.

ahh thank you :) I will set my DVR, as I don't think I can stay awake that long, but I'm sure gonna try. Maybe that's about the time my unborn son will start kicking me to tell me it's time for a mid-night snack:lmao: Usually 'bout that time he decides I need to be awake...

Did you notice that all the athletes walk over big colored ink pads and then walk over the painting they were working on earlier in the opening ceremonies? All their feet walking across is making a rainbow!!!

Yep... They had the PR contingent on the screen for a few seconds before they cut away and NBC must have decided that PR had enough air-time because when they returned from break they resumed with the next country in line. Our girls were bummed!

yep, I was able to track down the schedule on the nbc site and it is the ceremonies :D YAY!!!

Oh wow, did you all see that adorable little boy walking with Yao Ming and his story? What a brave little guy to free himself from the rubble of his school, then help rescue 2 more of his classmates. I hope he has the time of his life there.

Oh my gosh I hope he's not afraid of heights :worship:

I thought the cheerleaders did a great job!! And I am with you on missing countries... show them all it's taped!

I love that idea, and that flag will tour around the country.

That was one heck on a torch lighting ceramony! WOW! I dont think I trust anything that much!!

As a Chicagoian I am wondering what Mayor Daly is thinking right now lol

We are in the bid for 2016.

Okay I shall be the lone dissenter.
We all thought it was a snoozefest, with a few exceptions.
The first few minutes of the drummers was cool..and then it got old.
The Olympic rings lifting from the floor was cool, the little boy walking in who survived the earthquake was adorable. I teared up when the US walked in. The guy "running" up near the rim of the stadium was cool..for the first minute and then I was like allllrighty then, move it along.
Everything else was zzzzzzzz.:rolleyes1

I am finding the whole thing mind-blowing. But also a bit chilling and intimidating to be honest.

I think China has done a beautiful job on the opening ceremonies. :thumbsup2

I LOVE seeing the athletes walking in with their video cameras, taping the crowd and the event. It reminds me how exciting and special it is for them to be there. :goodvibes

That's just ot, I'm not- I cry at the drop of a hat, get choked up on a regular basis.
I wanted to love it, I was all excited for it, and then..eh. I even went back and watched some of it after reading this to see if I could see what everyone else saw.
Ahh dancing around holding bamboo...dancing around on a big scroll...2008 people doing tai chi..nope still didn't thrill me. I think it just wasn't fast paced enough for me I guess.
Ah well, onto the games! Can't wait!

I loved, loved, loved, this olympics opening ceremonies. Maybe I just never watched them this closely before; maybe I just never watched them under the influence of cabernet before. Either way, I thought Beijing did a wonderful job. I am much more partial to the summer games than the winter games, but I was just captured by the opening ceremonies. I always love the parade of nations. I'm just looking forward to the next 2+ weeks.

China did s great job with the opening ceremony!! :worship:

I thought I heard that they spent $300 million on it. Can anyone confirm this?

The rest of the countries that host the Olympics will have pretty big shoes to fill after this!

I'm not sure of the amount, but $300 million wouldn't surprise me. It was amazing!
