Open Mike Night - Everyone is Welcome

Last edited by Kay7979 : Today at 08:44 PM. Reason: So the edit line quips were invented by the Maelstrommers. Hmm.

For a while, you used to get FLAGGED!!!
by Sheridac if you did not edit.

I forgot why Mel's original thread was locked, dang cheesebrain!

OH YAH......Congratulations on your loss too......

Hubby and I just returned from our two for night......first the hospital that we can spit on to see his mama and then to the nursing home to see my mama. She was very testy and yelled at me and made me cry. I know she is almost 93 and they get confused and testy but I could not take it . SO I said mama if you yell at me I will have to leave. It was so I would not cry in front of her. But when I kissed her, she said you will come and see me tomorrow.

My granddaughter visited us this afternoon. She went to University of Maine yesterday for a tour and see the animal science program. She was very excited. They have a great campus. She was accepted in the Arcadia University in PA. but that is one expensive private school. She said it was really to far for her. She got accepted at Uof Maine too and is waiting for the others that will let them know the end of Feb into March. She is contented right now saying she is going to go to this one.

MommyPoppins - on the Medicaid thing. I think we've all been there before.

Twinkie - I LOVE photosynthesis. I'll be your test student for your quizzes! It'll be fun for me!!!

NAB -thanks for the ash wednesday info

Kay - we're actually born of the "reading seeing and hearing.... is a fastpass?" thread. I think the Maelstrom one got shut down because of lewd comments. Not 100% sure on that one.
The last one got shut down because so many changes happened all at once on the boards and a lot of the original people just didn't have time to post anymore.
Horsie asked us to make a new thread because she felt weird with one in her name that she didn't have time for.

To all - I went to the doctor.
I've lost 20 pounds already!!! Woo! Who needs food?

HOLY MACKERAL.......20 pounds GONE.......you are doing awesome........:cool1:

 to Pumba. Parents are rough. I almost made my mom cry today cuz I was so testy.
But she's so used to mumbling under her breath with my dad, who can't hear as well as I can, so I can hear the mean crap she's saying and then I yell at her.
Not so pretty.
It's just when we drive, mostly. She refuses to drive on the interstate and thinks she knows how to get everywhere, but forgets that I drive these roads on a daily basis.
It was better when we got home. We spent an hour or so stamping together.

Wow Celery!!!!!!!!!!! Good for you. That is fast.

Or should I say good fasting there Celery.

Pumba-- hope you are ok..... your granddaughter sounds well on her way.

/
Woo Hoo, Celery!!! I would be testy, too. It's better for my family and friends that I continue eating (albeit less) and just try to lose weight the old fashioned way!

Hang in there, Pumba. I hear you on those expensive private schools. My daughter checked out University of Pennsylvania before we realized it was Ivy League :confused3 OUCH! She is pretty happy at UNC on pretty much a full ride assistantship for grad school.

Off to read JavaSteph's latest TR episode.

Kay- I wouldn't give the Maelstrommers credit for inventing the witty edit. They certainly did it and probably even popularized on the disboards but invent? no. Many of us who are not "original Vikings" aka not part of the group since the beginning noticed the witty edits on the trip report boards... they are used on many trip reports. I certainly did it before I got "invited" to the reading is a fastpass thread. I love it because I often have to edit for spelling, grammar or factual issues and this covers up my mistake. Ha. Ha. Now you know.

Celery- Congrats!!! Golden Child is about 20 lbs! You have lost a one and half year old!!!!

Utah- Is our, um, I mean your kid's science fair project done yet?

WT- Is your washer and dryer fixed? or are you going to walmart to buy everyone a new package of underwear? (that was my mom's suggestion when we had no washer for a week) Do big time lawyers even shop at Wally world?

MommyP- I am a SAHMWWOTHONAW. Wow I like how that turned out. I might start using it. That is a stay at home mom who works outside the house one night a week. Tuesday nights I teach a biology lab at the local University. I love the chance to have some one else feed and bath my kids and get them ready for bed (I am home by bedtime)! And dress up! And talk to people who not only don't ignore me (I *said* quit touching your brother) but actually write down what I say! Best of all they pay me! :woohoo: I used to get Ivy money. Except for it was Bailey money for a little girl I babysat 3-4 days a week but alas and alack her mom doesn't need me anymore. I use my money for preschool and gymnastics. I would much rather teach 18 year olds about photosynthesis and have some one else let my girls paint, do play do, and cover everything in glitter somewhere where I don't have to vacuum.

Pumba- Hang in there. I know it is hard. I think the closer you are the harder it is to watch... especially the personality changes and disorientation.

Hi Moo! Hi Marita! Our Big Sweetie is MIA too....

Hugs to all those with troubles :grouphug:

My DD did the dishes today for some extra money and did something else:

I came home to find the mop and the mop and glow in the kitchen, but looking at the floor, I did not think it looked all that "done".
So I asked her about it, and she said, yes, she mopped the floor, but she only used water

Thanks everyone for the history of the Maelstrommers.

Celery woooo hoooty on the 20 pounds! I know it hasnt been pleasant. But it will all be worth it. I'll try to think up some science-fiction method to make weight loss easier. ;) I could stand to lose a few pounds myself. I used to be able to drop ten pounds in a week with a crash diet, but it isn't nearly as easy now. Mostly what crashes is my willpower. :rotfl:

Pumba I was just thinking I hadn't "seen you" for a couple days. Hang in there. I only see my mother a couple times a week at the nursing home. Your every day routine would have me pulling my hair out. My mother and I get along pretty well and she is good tempered but she's in her 80s and gets a case of "the stupids" now and then when simple things confuse her, and we go around in circles on everyday things like using a cordless phone, a CD player, radio. Sometimes I want to bang my head in frustration on her tray table!

MommyP Sorry to hear about your insurance woes. I hope the Medicaid plan or something along those lines works out for you.

Drebert I don't think we've met. Congrats on losing 10.5 pounds. As for losing 9.5 inches, it sounds like you must be getting pretty short by now! :rotfl2:

Kay, that was FOFF!!!!

Kay,meet Dre, aka Lisa, one of the original Maelstrommers, who has been sadly absent a lot lately. Dre is married to Lacto, who has been MIA forever now.

Lacto, where are you?

Dre and Lacto are closely related to Mark and Rhonda by way of both men being UM ministers. Mark and Rhonda have been sadly missing too.

Dre, meet Kay, a very funny lady. Read her trip report to get the full effect.

Wow, you had to have a personal invitation to hang out on that thread? :snooty: It must have been like joing a country club. I noticed that title many times on the community board and thought it sounded interesting, but never actually checked it out. Then it was gone. It was fluke I found this thread, and I was excited to recognize all the names here. Should I have waited for an invitation? :rotfl:

Funny story, at one point, there was a lot of talk about the fastpass thread being a "clique". Someone started a thread called "Who here is not in a clique like me?" or something like that.
That was many months ago, and they seem to a "Clique of their own" now :rotfl2:

I remember seeing that thread. Never read that one, either. I assumed it was referring to any number of threads that have "regulars" who hang out there.

They only became regulars after they had clique envy, LOL

Very interesting. So why did the Maelstrom thread get locked. This kind of thread can't be off-topic as there is none! In any case, the Maelstrommers are now no more. I feel like playing taps. :sad1: But this thread was born out of it's ashes, so the Open Mikers still include some Maelstrommers, I assume.

Kay, the specific reasons why the previous threads were closed are not appropriate to discuss here. The board admins made the decisions to close those threads for violations of board rules. It is best for all concerned to not try and discuss what lead up to the closing of those threads.

And Twinkie is correct, we were not the first to use the edit feature, although we did make extensive use of it on some of the threads.

I'm not in a clique.

I have idea! Why don't we form one right here?

And we could let anyone join, too!
