Open food containers

Can we bring food items aboard that are already open? Or does everything have to be unopened? My mom wants to bring certain honey and a few other specialty items she uses as part of her daily routine.

Generally a bad idea. Sealed food is fine, but open containers put everybody at risk. Even something like honey could be a problem if accidentally consumed by an infant if, for example, your mom left it on deck in the morning while drinking tea.

You might just tell your Mom to enjoy the cruise as a way not to worry about all the things she needs to worry about at home. Just get on the ship and relax.

All food items have to be unopened, in their factory sealed condition. You also will not be allowed to take the food off the ship once it has been opened. You might want to call DCL to see if they have the items you desire onboard. If not, bring new, unopened food items and be prepared to leave them behind.

The USDA has very strict rules about what can be brought into the country even if the item has never left the ship and the fines are huge if caught. Honey probably falls under their rules. We were delayed leaving St. Thomas in April because of a swarm of bees that decided that the pool deck on the Fantasy was a great place to build a hive.

Call Disney and see if they have honey on board. Or visit your local farmers market for honey sticks.

FE gifts of food were closed, so I can attest that they pass.
