Ontario might have hit the peak of COVID 19

Yes, if you could let me know as well that would be great. I have 2 tickets for September that I'm not likely to use now (at least this year) purchased through the Airmiles Personal Shopper with park hopper.

I have a feeling given the amount of time out we are to September they aren't going to let me refund regardless but honestly, even if WDW opens by September, the States is getting RAVAGED by the virus and who knows when the border is going to open. On top of that, there are rumors that when WDW comes back there will be a restriction in activities (no characters, half-capacity restaurants, no parades, no fireworks etc.) that I feel it would be a waste of money until all this is sorted out.
This is my biggest fear. I haven't done anything with our August trip yet, as it's basically paid in full (Disney, Seaworld, Delta, Park and Fly at Detroit, and a shuttle service to get us to SeaWorld) and if we're capable of going, I plan to go, even at reduced experience, to not be out those various funds. If we cancel now, most of those are currently only in a 'reschedule' or 'credit voucher' option and without knowing when we can go, I can't re-plan anything. But, my biggest fear is that they all open up over there, but the border doesn't. Then it gets even more complicated, as it becomes "Not our fault, your flight is capable of flying, you choose not to get on it" or "Not our fault, the parks are open, you choose not to come here." and we end up even more out those funds.

Just got off the call (Google Hangouts!) with WDW.

Bottom line, they have no way to de-link tickets from MDE. They said that when tickets are refunded by third-party sellers, the tickets get removed from MDE automatically so the seller is able to re-issue them to someone else. I said I wasn't sure if Air Miles would work like that or not.

Does anyone have any experience with that happening with a previous refund?

That's probably what is going to happen. I am basing that on the talk from our government saying mass gatherings are most likely not happening til there is a cure or vaccine.

Thanks for calling and posting. I'm imagining AM is going to be a bust. Why would they want to take back tickets and refund us in the hopes they can sell them to someone else. These tickets have a limited time frame left on them and not likely a huge demand for the them given the world situation. I wonder if AM is able to get money back from Disney for tickets they have in stock when they expire. If so that would become the game changer.

Worst case I'll just upgrade the expired tickets when we go in 2023. I will have purchased other tickets for other family members and made their FP ahead of time. When I upgrade the expired tickets I'll see if they can match our tickets to the FP already made. I've heard of people having success doing things that way.

My parents have AP to USO they bought in February. Those will be extended as long as their parks are closed. My Dad mentioned possibly going in the spring instead of December and we could do both WDW and USO at that time. Might go that route instead as I can't image my parents (69/70 at that time) will want to save their WDW passes for the "future". They would want to use them up. And my whole point of traveling with them now is to make memories with them while we still can.

Gradually allow companies to start up again in reverse order of how they are needed starting with manufacturing and moving up. Example cars- first the plants that prepare the parts, next the factory that the parts get shipped to followed by the actual assembly lines to build the cars. Each step will take 2 weeks before moving on since that is the incubation period of the virus, if no cases spring up then the next step can open, and so on until you get the car built. Make sense? Not sure what this means for something like a restaurant but you get the picture.

Manufacturing has never been ordered closed in Ontario. Some have chosen to close or had supply issues that caused them to close but lots of factories have remained open with some adjustments throughout. This seems to be a common confusion.

Did they mention whether fast passes can be somehow booked on these tickets that expire year end. Especially if WDW doesn’t open up before they expire for FP purpose.

I'm not getting into an arguement here but there are in fact some sections of factories that aren't fully functional as you mentioned and until they are able to provide everything the next step in production of a specific product requires they can't open the next step. I know this is true because several of my husband's systems are production management and they're currently not all up and running. It's given him time to deal with all the tweaks those companies are deciding now is a good time to get finished. The example I used is one that affects him personally.

Okay, my impression from what you said is that is what the Ontario *government* would open first and they are not directly involved in any manufacturing closures. For people who are not connected to manufacturing, there seems to be a common misconception that all "non-essential" (food/medical) manufacturing was ordered closed and that is not the case.

my intent was to give an example of how things will need to reopen, gradually and with a semblance of order that will allow the chance to observe if the virus is under enough control. With the 2 week staggering we'll be able to watch, in relatively smaller numbers how things have progressed. Also as I mentioned I have zero idea how this will effect things like restaurants but it does allow for their supply chain to start producing things in industrial sizes again.

I just didn't want people to be disappointed to hear that reopening doesn't mean everything all at once.

NS only had 8 positive cases with 673 tests done yesterday. That is our smallest amount since the beginning of all this. They didn't say how many were at the Northwood LTC Centre, but I would guess at least a few. They had two more deaths, unfortunately. Hopefully we are starting to flatten curve here. We have a long ways to go before they can start re-opening non-essential businesses though. Just look at NB and PEI. No cases for days they are just starting to get their plans in order.

Quebec will announce a timeline this week. Some regions haven't seen a new case in 2 weeks so it's normal they consider lowering confinement there (those regions are also almost completely closed from outside visitors). Not expecting much re-opening for Mtl and the surrounding regions since we have all the cases but I'm hoping I can go back to the lab soon. We are considered essential workers but academic labs have mostly closed down except for COVID-19 research mostly to save PPE for medical workers. As PPE will become more easily available, we should be able to start re-opening research with strict restrictions.

Ontario schools closed until end of May now. Another announcement will follow at some point before then I guess.

I'm actually glad to know this. As parents we need to know when our kids will be home. We're both working full time from home --- literally from day one of this --- which makes all of this almost unmanageble to have 2 parents at home who both have to work --- regardless of the situation -- that still need to get their kids to do school work.

I literally wish they hadn't said 10 hours per week for grade 8's --- we could have asked far more from DS but once he saw this --- everything else became a battle.

The email from the school said 2 hours per day --- that is the email that students saw --- so DS saw us as requesting more as being extra. Really kids should have been doing school work for all normal school hours. (By the by... our DS is ADHD so once he saw 2@1hour sessions per day there was zero chance that anything more we asked for would be anything less than an all out battle.) It's not been a pleasant 6 weeks at all -- we're still battling but DS says no I don't have to --- school says only 2 hours required .... we say "No... that's the minimum". So this has been a battle of wills --it's not destined to end well for any of us at this point.)

My daughter’s teacher (grade 6 mind you) gives them around 12 assignments on monday/tuesday and they have to pass them in by sunday evening. I like that they can pick what they want to work on each day. DD likes to have it all done by friday so she has the weekend off. It also teaches them how to prioritize their time.

The high school ones came out as 3 hrs per week per class, which is 12 hrs in a week. Maybe tell him that's the expected and then there's homework?

I get this. I'm a single mom (thankful I can work from home) and the boy refuses to do any of the work. He's in grade 5 and hasn't done anything for his teachers or me since this started. He also has ADHD (and ODD and anxiety, makes life super fun right now). I have given up getting him to do anything. He says he is smarter than everyone else so shouldn't need to do it.

I am glad to know we have at least 5 more weeks. I am still guessing it will be September before they go back though.

You are a goddess... being a single mom dealing with this....

We're lucky in the sense DS had ADHD but never the ODD diagnosis. But we still have to be really consicous of how we deal with everything always since if we get buy in --- he's all in. But if we don't it's a challenge --everytime. We've been pretty focused on trying to do cool math and science stuff and hope he stays all in.... We also lucked out that he's pretty darn smart so he picks things up pretty quick.

Health, love, and good wishes to you (and your DS) ... you really are someone pretty awesome!

DD10 received a ADD diagnosis in October with high anxiety. Once we solved the anxiety issue with a psychologist, it really helped her. She's always been a very hard-worker and very conscientious so our homeschooling routine is going pretty well. The fact that her 5th grade teacher is doing a 1h chat Monday-Thursday with her class on Google Hangout and gives them homework (optional but DD doesn't know that) to send back to her helps a lot. Being home with both kids made us realized that DD7 probably also have ADD but we will wait before having her get tested so she can grow up a little (mature) and since she has amazing grades, we're not too worried yet. Our deal with the kids is 3h of school work per day for 3h of electronics (that includes tv but not educational apps). No work, no iPads and iPhones.
