So I wanted to give a heads up on a weird policy with ticket purchases that I experienced today...

My parents are sending two of my cousins to Disney World. Sort of a christmas gift. So THEY are paying for the park tickets, but they are not going themselves. The whole thing is supposed to be a semi-suprise

We are also in Canada so taking advantage of the 20% off for Canadians promotion. So we go on the website, select the tickets we want, they go in the cart, we assign each ticket to each individual person. My parents enter their credit card info. and before placing the order... we notice that it says three things for the will-call activation of the passes:
1) Proof of residency is required with a photo ID . Of course, Canadian promotion, makes sense
2) Proof of Purchase/code is require. Okay.
3) the card that paid for it is required....

So... my parents won't be there... the tickets will be paid for on the website *AND* while I understand it would be a security measure... the passes are already associated with the Disney accounts AND they would have photo ID.

So I call Disney, they give me the security measure spiel... and their suggestion is to buy GIFT CARDS, pay for the tickets that way and send them down with the gift cards as their proof of purchase... Pretty annoying ... but okay...

There are 7 people going ( 2 cousins, and their respective kids/SOs ), the total is something like 3900$ So go to ShopDisney... I can only buy 1 500$ eGift gift card at a time... I can't buy physical cards and have them shipped to Canada... So I would have to literally do 8 separate transactions... THEN go to DisneygiftCards and consolidate each one into a single card...

In the end... I just opted to pay the *ridiculous* amount of 25$ shipping for "International Shipping" to have the physical cards sent out to us, thus bypassing the whole authentication thing... But what the ...

they don't make it easy to gift someone

This is a much-discussed situation.
Many guests change credit cards before making a trip or simply bring a different card on the trip and, therefore, don't have the card used for purchase.

It's a bit of an additional safeguard against fraud, but showing the actual card would not be "required"
for getting the tickets at Guest Relations.

Oh well there's something I forgot to mention too. When I called guest Services, they also told me that the PERSON who made the purchase ( in this case, my father ) had to be present as well... So it's not just the card, but the person. I get it if it was a purchase with no other ties... like if I was picking up theater tickets and didn't want some joe shmoe picking up my tickets... but these are literally attached to your Disney account upon purchase. you still need a government photo ID to pick them up... it's really an activation formality. Seems silly to insist on the card holder being present with card in hand. *shrugs*

anyway, whatever, we had them shipped, it's taken care of. it was just very annoying.

You called a CM "somewhere in the vast universe" who likely knows nothing about actual park procedures.
Sadly, a great number of these uninformed CMs answer questions with no actual training in the subject they are discussing.

Don't continue to be upset with a described procedure that is simply NOT the case.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Anyway we opted for the shipping method anyway to be on the safe side.

When I go myself, it's not an issue either way because I *am* there :) ...

thanks

We are Canadian also.

My parents have gifted us discounted Canadian resident tickets for Christmas as well as MVMCP tickets over the years.

The purchase card is not necessary - only proof of residency.

I realize the fraud aspect of it but people lose cards, cancel cards etc. so it’s not an easy “Company Policy” to uphold. And they don’t.

It's too late now, but as another option you could have purchased a Canadian Disney gift card. You pay for these in CAD so it actually helps cut out the 2.5% foreign exchange fee as well unless your credit card has no foreign exchange fees. You can find them at Shoppers, Superstore, and some other locations. The ones I bought at Shoppers were loadable up to $1000 CAD I believe.

Good to know, could still come in handy for other uses before our own trip. thanks!
