Online reservation - borrowing from 2013 use year

I have an August use year, but it looks like if I book online, I can't borrow points from 2013 to book reservations starting after August 1, 2012. The 2013points available are not even listed.

I'm thinking the 2013 points won't show up online until after August 1. Which means when I want to try and book the Grand Californian next week I will have to wait until 9 and call.

Anybody been able to borrow points from the 2013 use year to book online? I know I can borrow them for after August 2012, I've already borrowed some. If they've overlooked this, it's a pretty big glitch.

I've been wondering the same thing. I'll need to borrow 20 points into 2013 for my current plans.

I'm pretty sure that borrowing can only be done as part of making a reservation. I don't think that you can just move points back without needing them. I'm hoping that when you actually make the booking online that the option to borrow comes up then.

Can anyone confirm?

Yes, you can borrow as part of the reservation process. I made an online reservation a few days ago for BLT, and borrowed about 35 points as part of the procedure.

Over on the right you should see two Use Years listed, 2011 and 2012 in your case. Click on 2012 and it will show you the points in your 2012 UY and points available to be borrowed from your 2013 UY.

OK, cool. I booked a room with 2012 points last night and one of the things I couldn't figure out was how to withdraw from the booking before it was completed, so I didn't want to try and run a dummy reservation. But will certainly be trying on Tuesday.

I made a reservation on line yesterday using my borrowed 2013 points. You don't have to worry about making a mistake and you could practice by making a dummy reservation because the system lets you cancel the whole thing and put the points back right up and including the last screen. There's a big CANCEL button on that screen. And in the couple of screens before that, after you've made the reservation selection and borrowed the points, there are messages that clearly tell you you won't make a final booking at that time and you can put everything back the way it was.

It's pretty easy to go through the whole process, and if you want to do your dummy reservation just to get the hang of it you really can't go wrong. Unless when you get to the last screen with the CANCEL button. If you don't cancel and leave the page your reservation is finalized, and I think if you let it sit on that page for about 20 minutes you also finalize it w/o really doing anything more.
