Good morning. We haven't visited the Fort since 2019 and wanted to get some advice. Have you found any advantages for online check-in? Also, I faxed a site request and wasn't sure if online check-in would affect making this request. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

Our last visit we showed up early. Our designated site was not ready so we parked in the overflow lot. We were able to get out golf cart and went riding around. We saw several favorable sites and went back to the front and went in and asked. They gave us our first choice. Not had to much luck with the request when doing online check in but they have always been accommodating once you are there. We have also in the past driven the camper to the assigned site but just called when we found another maybe across the way or just down in the loop and they have let us change on the spot. Just had to go back to the front desk so they could get our magic bands allocated to the correct site. Very friendly and helpful staff.

I tried early check in once. I did it before we left home, really not knowing what to expect. There was no response. We arrived and did the normal check in at the driveway/entrance. While we were headed to the site we finally got a text stating our site was ready.
First off, we didn't know what we were doing really so we could have messed things up.
Second, maybe there wasn't enough time as we only live a half hour away.
Finally, I didn't have any special request and our TA had hooked us up with a group that hadn't sold all their sites so we didn't even know what loop we were supposed to be in.

I do the online checkin, but I think the only benefit is if you are arriving earlier than the standard check in time. Filling the arrival time box with an early morning time possibly gets them to assign a ready sport earlier. I normally arrive early/mid morning and indicate a 0700 or 0800 arrival time. I have never received a text with a site assignment until after I was there and worked with the check in CM to see what was available where I wanted. One of the advantages with arriving early is you normally have a bigger selection of sites that were empty the night before. Once they start texting site assignments for the day, those sites are unavailable, even if they are physically unoccupied when you arrive. The only exception to the arrive early/bigger choice is if the Fort was full the night before. This happened to us in January when we arrived on marathon Sunday. The Fort was packed at 0800 when we arrived and there was nearly nothing available. Later in the morning, 15 minutes after check out, half the Fort was empty.

I got their early and had my pick of sites. Be nice and ask. We did have to wait 5 hours for the site to be ready, but that was ok. We had a 2 week stay and had probably the best site in the loop. On another note. , all the sites are nice. Sometimes its just good to have one at all.
