Online adr's = hoarding???

I made an adr for my friend's upcoming trip today and it struck me how incredibly easy the process was. I could have made multiple reservations for several dates/time slots using any name or email!!

Do you think that people are more likely to hoard multiple reservations when they can make them so easily online? I think when people don't have to call and actually speak to a cast member they may be more likely to double or triple book. How will Disney control this when all they have to go by is an email address? Many households have 5 or 6 email addresses... There will be no way to track multiple bookings

(BTW, no offense intended to well-meaning people who may have a "temporary" double booking while they firm up plans - at least these folks cancel - in a timely manner - to free up the time slot for others.)

This is always a danger of abuse whenever you make a new service available. There is a thread here on the DIS where we keep track of the myriad abuses and exploits that people have engaged in over the years, that have prompted Disney to change or curtail services as a result, thereby harming others. It's a fact of life.

However, I assume that the standard policy for ADRs will apply, that if they detect the same person making two ADRs for the same time, they will cancel both.

There will be abuse--you can count on it. The new process has a # of "issues" and that's just one of them.

I hope that the online system is not discontinued because of abuse. I used it to make my own adr's and I loved it :lovestruc

With the online systems, presumably it's also easy to track whether people have double booked two restaurants for close to the same time. We've had posts here of people reporting that ALL their ADR's for the week were cancelled because they had double-booked for just one of the days. So this is a pretty big consequence and if it happens, hey, it opens up a lot of ADR's for other people.
That said, I'm sure Disney uses a formula to determine how many people will be no-shows on any given day/ time and possibly they've upped it with online ADR's. They want to keep all of their tables at full earning capacity so they've certainly taken everything into consideration.

There are already several threads about people who have double booked using the online system and HAVE had ALL of their bookings cancelled. I'm hoping that the new system is actually better at catching ADR hoarders than it used to be.

I like the online system simply because you do get a hard copy of reservation.

It's so much easier to track your ress

I used Phone b4 and got wrong number on my ress #

which i read back and comfirm....

and it make speedsheet so much easier to fill up with all the time and date

not everyone is lucky enough to make all his or her ress on very first try...

different time different date different restaurant....

all make online service much better than phone ...just my own 2 cents;)

Are they receiving any notice of such?

Earlier today I made a new breakfast and dinner reservation for the same day, then immediately cancelled the lunch that I had booked for that day earlier. Now I'm concerned that I should have cancelled the lunch FIRST, before making the B & D reservations.

I haven't "double-booked" and I'd really hate to lose all my reservations for the week because of some algorithm in the system...

I think you would be fine. Even if you kept your lunch, you would only have breakfast, lunch and dinner. The people double booking are actually booking two restaurants around the same exact time to keep their plans flexible. It could be an honest mistake too.

Actually, that would not be considered double booking anyway, since your ADR's were for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Here is a perfect example of double-booking, and our ADR's were not cancelled. We had Hollywood & Vine booked at 1:35 pm on our arrival date. I finally found an opening for 50's Prime Time that same day, at 2:00 pm. Technically, I was double booked once I snagged the 50's Prime Time, however I did not want to let the H&V go prior to getting 50's Prime Time booked. Within 5 minutes of having 50's booked, I went in and cancelled H&V. So technically I was double booked there for a little bit, but I have checked the reservations and all of mine are still up there. I'm certain you are fine.
