One Way Trip to Canada, Eh? FINAL THOUGHTS 08/10

Pretty smart! I hadn't seen anything like that before, but it allowed him to swim laps without disturbing everyone else!

...except, of course, for the disturbing speedo.....

clever title not only did it work for the first part, but if the deck was chilly sounds like you could freeze your popsicles off.
:lmao:

sorry bad joke...i thought the show looked fun and i would like to see it...tell him next time you will leave him at home and take me.
:thumbsup2

Aww, it's too bad you didn't get any pictures. I would've LOVED to see you all dressed up! I have a light-up Tink from a drink I got at WCC too. I should think about using it more....

The food sounds really yummy! It's so appropriate for Pirate's night.

Too bad Toy Story wasn't that great. I can imagine some scenarios aren't easy to do. I watched it on Ice and they had to change a lot of things to make it work.

I'm glad that guest was able to rejoin the cruise! Must've been so scary for her!

I would love to see all the people dressed up for the party, it looks like so much fun!

You're funny today! Okay, every day. :rotfl2:

I thought about your "pirate eyes" when I was getting ready - kind of a "what if" moment. pirate:

TS on ice would probably me hard to master, too. My grandkids didn't notice so I guess they did a good job!

All dressed up.... mopre than we wanted I think...that part is coming

So we grabbed our jackets and headed up to Deck 9 – thinking there would be a buffet set up and nicely decorated – so I could get a picture. Nope. But what we had was the shock of pure arctic wind! I mean ICEY! We found a little area behind one of the hot tubs that was a little bit of a wind break and hunkered down in our chairs to wait for the party. Jim got me a cup of hot cocoa out of the drink dispenser. There were some deck blankets out that a few people were huddled under, but I couldn’t see which cabinet they came from. Please remember – we were used to cold weather – it was still snowing when we left our home town – I’m talkin’ COLD! The imagineers had tried to solve this – when the Wonder was in dry dock, the installed a plexiglass wall with a curved top all around Deck 9, trying to create a wind break. Well, what they have created is a wind tunnel! It seems to magnify the wind through that area, rather than stop it. I think the need a retractable roof of some kind so they can enclose it all the way.

If you’ve seen the Pirate Party before, you know that Deck 9 is usually super crowded, as is Deck 10. The crowd was pretty sparse.

Please excuse the blurry pic - I think I was shivering too much

. I just had to take a pic of these poor people, trying to stay warm – once again – I’m sure the first POPSICLE PIRATE PARTY!!!

IMGP2849.jpg

The characters came out and started their celebration - the sound track was off so the Skull on the screen kept coming up and saying, "The party will be begin in 5 minutes!" One of the dancers kept saying, "Silly pirate - the party's already started!" :rotfl2:

IMGP2850.jpg

Our jackets weren’t really thick winter coats, but I really wanted to see the fireworks, but as I was shivering, and my neck was getting stiffer by the minute, I kept hanging in there, thinking that Jim really wanted to stay – finally I made a comment about, “I almost can’t take it anymore.” He jumped on that and said, “I’m only staying because I thought you wanted to.” Hallelujah!! I jumped up and we were out of there – Back to the warm coziness of our stateroom. I was never so so glad to have the extra cozy blanket that was in our room – wish they had sold them in the Treasure Ketch!

We watched a movie – Maybe Morning Glory this time, ate some of Jim's cookie stash, and fell asleep pretty quickly after all the walking and sun we had that day!

Next: How Cold Will It Be?

No photo of Pirate Tammie?????? :sad2:

And another fun update that makes me homesick! I never thought it would be that cold, but from what you describe it must have been freezing cold.

Don't we all just love the Pirate Party and the fireworks, but I would not have waited around to see them either.

We have never seen characters in the dining rooms during dinner ..... maybe this is something new as well.

Can't wait for more! Thanks for writing the report for us, Tammie!

Yes, the fireworks are so unique to Disney I just feel the need to celebrate!

Thank you for reading Karin! It helps me to keep writiing if I know someone is reading!

Thank You! It was awesome!

Your cruise will be here before you know it! :woohoo:

You should never be cold on a cruise. Especially if I just left the cold to be on one. And I definitely won't complain that summer is hot.

Hubby and I do the "I thought you wanted to stay" thing all the time.

ITA! I'm not sorry we did this one - it was an awesome trip, but I have always resisted cruising to Alaska because, "if I am going to pay that much for a vacation, I want to be on a beach with an umbrella drink!" :rotfl: Our next cruise will definitely be someplace warm!:thumbsup2

"I thought you wanted to stay" is so funny. Why don't we just say what we're thinking in the first place? :confused3

Day 5 – Sunday, May 1st – Sea Day
Today dawned windy and a little overcast, with a rough sea. I had ordered my coffee and pastry room service again, and I enjoyed relaxing for a while. We headed up to Triton’s at 9 for breakfast. Feeling a little food overload, I asked for the Morning Tugboat: Strawberry, banana and granola with yogurt. I expected this to be kind of a parfait. The server said, “I’ll bring it for you, but it is not enough, you need a breakfast, too!” So I had Mickey Waffles and scrambled eggs from the children’s menu and Jim had an omelette. The Tugboat, was like a yogurt smoothie with the granola in it – more like a fruit soup – good call server! Oh, and the reason we were here, was that Agnelo had told us they were working there this morning, so we asked to be seated in their section. They gave us to Adnel.:confused3

After our delicious breakfast, we headed up on Deck 9 to see what the temperature was – It was cold! These CMs were all decked out in their newly issued Winter coats and hats – I asked for a picture because it was something not seen on a Disney ship before – They told us they were from Jamaica and Cozumel respectively, then asked “Alaska – How cold will it be???”

IMGP2870.jpg

I guess the guy in the back had hands so numb he doesn't realize he forgot his gloves! :rotfl2:

That was the theme for the day – servers and CMs from all the tropical countries would ask that question – it is hard to describe to someone if they haven’t lived it before, and we knew it would feel especially cold to someone not acclimated. Thankfully it was Spring, and would not really be that terrible for them.

We took some pics from around the ship

This morning we decided to take in the Art of Entertainment – the Entrée at Studio Sea. We were treated to a demonstration of a signature dish from Animator’s by the head chef for that dining room – Phyllo wrapped salmon! We were given delicious samples of the dish when it was complete, along with a nice Chardonnay wine pairing. Jim very kindly poured his wine into mine, and then we were given seconds – FREE DRINKS!

I had thought we might play Bingo, as we hadn’t made it to a game yet, but the time overlapped, so I saved Jim some money! We looked through our pictures in Shutters and decided to just pile them up and make our decision at the end.

We decided to try to see our servers again for lunch, so we headed to Triton’s to ask for their section again. This time we expressed our disappointment with our morning and asked to be in the correct section. We were told they already had too many tables, so would we mind being in another section. Okay, that’s fine. It seemed they went out of their way to make us feel special. We had 2 asst. servers and had a nice conversation with them, as well as the head server. I had Shrimp cocktail and a Seafood salad, I think. I remember feeling like I just needed a break from all the food.

Oops - I'm missing a picture here that goes with the next paragraph, so I'll be back later! Talk amongst yourselves.....

Love the picture with the workers in winter coats and the little girl in the back ground in a bathing suit. Must be like when we are at WDW in Jan. were in the pool and the staff is in sweaters.

Stacking your photos for shame.:lmao: We do this all the time too. I know they don't like it but I am not willing to part with them unitl close to the end. That is why I can't wait to see how they do it on the Dream with the albums or boxes with the photos in them.

wow even though it was cold, looks like a good amount of kids in the pool

Quite a contrast for sure!:rotfl2:

I didn't know you could stack them before - I thought they were throwing them away - now I know they are stacking them too. I haven't heard about the Dream system.

You know kids - they don't care as long as there is water to play in - maybe the kids were Canadian kids - they are a hearty bunch:thumbsup2 See above post!:lmao:

Wonderful photos of the ship, Tammie! With every new one a new memory came back.

I especially love the one of the CMs in their winter gear - reminds me of DLRP - they are in their winter gear most of the year! :rotfl2:

Maybe we can lure you over to the east coast to cruise with us once - that would be the ultimate fun! :thumbsup2

I am all caught up! I'm glad to hear you had a fun pirate night, I've heard mixed reviews so am happy yours was so much fun. Mixed reviews on Toy Story as well, it will be interesting to see what the E's think.

It sounds VERY cold and how interesting given that you were hardly in Alaska yet! It will be very interesting to see how warm, or cold, our trip is.
