One more "safeguard" when renting points ??

I'm working on renting points for the first time and have thought of another "safeguard" to know that the ressie has not been canceled. If you book the dining plan at the time you make the ressie using your credit card (a virtual acct number, of course), then if the ressie got canceled, you would see a credit on your cc statement and know something was up. This seems like a pretty simple was to know your reservation is still valid, but I haven't read anything about it on the boards. Am I wrong in my thinking somewhere?

BTW -- I now fraud on these things is VERY rare, but this just gives one more layer to the peace of mind.

I've always paid for the DDP upon check in, although it must be requested 48 hours prior to arrival. Nothing is charged until you get there, they don't even take a CC# at the time it is requested. Unless things have changed...

Excellent idea but as PP said you can't pay for it until you get there.

If you are really worried about getting ripped off, then you need to book directly from Disney and have cancellation policies, opportunities to modify your reservation and a guaranteed confirmation.

No, I'm not really worried about being ripped off, just thought this would be one more way that the person renting the points could watch what's going on. Obviously, as others have pointed out, it doesn't work that way.

Perhaps I read too much into your post (it is late!), but I have done my homework, read, read and read some more, and feel very comfortable with the transaction I'm involved in. Thus my last comment in the original post about realizing that getting scammed is very rare.

If you don't trust your renter then you shouldn't rent. As a owner, I could cancel your reservation 1 minute before your check in. IMO DVC Members are a honest group of people. Follow the suggestions on renting here on the DIS and you should be OK.

The other problem with this is that IF DVC did allow you to prepay the DDP, you'd have to give your credit card number to the member - since MS won't talk to you. If I'm not trusting the member not to cancel the room, I'm sure not going to trust them with my credit card info.
