One more reason to HATE the new Michigan booster seat law!

WOW Do you go thru their lunchboxes?? How do you know this?

I would imagine one would see the cokes when the kids take them out to drink them

I'm in NJ, and everyone I know uses carseats and boosters religiously. Those that don't usually end up being the parents that pack coke in their kids' lunch boxes.

Knowing your strong views, no one is going to confess to you differently.

One person with a differing point of view was already run off on this thread because it didn't fit with the politically correct viewpoint everyone is trying to browbeat the rest of us into.

wowzer!!

ETA, sorry this is just over the -- oh forget it!!

I'm sorry, I didn't know it was a simple answer, I have no clue what any other kids take to school to drink around me, I'm not in school when they eat or drink

confess? LOL.... it is usually pretty easy to observe who is and who is not using a booster seat

The Nanny States says: No cokes for lunch! Let's make 'em illegal!!!!

what about sprite and cheetos?

thankfully. my girls get a balanced breakfast, lunch and two snacks, now when they get home......

I'm not allowed to send cokes for lunch either, or any other crappy drinks which doesn't bother me my kids love milk.

A low back booster? Not really, unless you are peering into the car.

Which we can see a lot of people here clearly are!

there is no way you could see in my car a low back booster being used, 20 inch wheels make it higher than the reg Durango.

here's the thing...

I believe everyone wants what is best for their family/child.....I certainly do..it'a confusing when state to state it differs so vastly.....that tells me...go to the islands girl!

 WOW Do you go thru their lunchboxes?? How do you know this? :confused3

Well, when your child asks you to pack soda in the lunchbox, and you tell them they are nuts, what parent would pack a soda, you find out that some do, and having 3 children in elementary school right now, I have found that the soda packing parents tend to be the parents with their young children in the front seat, the kids riding their bikes without helmets, the children who get suspended for bringing pocket knifes to school, the parents not using boosters (these are some scenarios - I'm not claiming all for each kid). Maybe it's the company I keep, but the parents I know DO use boosters (and I've never brought up my strong feelings on the subject, since it's never been an issue).

Your post says it all.

ETA:
As mjkacmom's post said...she was talking of people she knows. Its not like she is (or I am) going around trying to peek into peoples cars. Over time I've noticed that most people I know keep their kids in boosters up until 4ft9in, age 8 etc(although I believe GA law is still 6 yrs).
Only one mother I can think of does not, and it does drive me nuts, as her 2 younger DDs often rides with me. I do insist that the youngest ride in one of my extra boosters even though she recently turn 6 and mom no longer makes her ride in one.

So theoretically a kid could be driven to the bus stop, get out of their booster seat then get on a school bus without any seat belt at all!
One makes money for the state
One would cost the state money

busses are now designed to so that they seat compartment provides some restraint and protection. Seat back are higher and no longer have exposed metal, such as back or handles.

A school bus situation and a passenger car situation are usually pretty different.

1 More often than not, school busses are traveling at low speeds in residential areas. some areas now either require or voluntarily use charter buses for traveling on field trips etc. Even the local high school's football and band bus is a charter/tour bus instead of a school bus since they travel in the interstate.

2 it is much harder for a bus driver with dozens of passengers to monitor correct usage of seat belts

3 in an evacuation situation it would hard for a school bus to quickly evacuate if everyone was using a seatbelt.

We have had the booster seat requirement in our state for several years. It seems like if it is safest for your child to ride in a booster seat, that would be your main concern.

1. I see school buses on the highway all the time
2. Not sure why that matters, if the police can monitor cars they can monitor school buses
3. If that was true why do we wear them on airplanes? Actually it would help with evacuation, in an accident kids without a seatbelt are more likely to be stunned, hurt etc and less able to evacuate.

The study that is often used to justify the lack of seat belts on school busses is considered to be serously flawed by many experts.

I HATE when dd has to ride the bus, specifically because of the lack of safety restraints on them!

I don't think anybody should be improperly restrained or not restrained at all in any moving vehicle. People that aren't restrained often injure or kill people in a vehicle (or OTHER vehicle) by flying around in the car or into other cars.

I don't think I'd want to wish I HAD buckled my child properly in the event of an accident.
