We generally travel the last week of February and the first week of March or the first week in December. My daughter has progressive hearing loss that can progress in the heat so we never go in the summer... Would we be ok to choose Vero as our home hotel... are our chances good at staying on site at WDW anywhere... We are not picky about our location... just like being on-site... Or is it to risky and we should be in at an on-site property instead of Vero? Thanks again! :flower1:

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't buy at Vero if you are always planning to stay at WDW. The initial cheaper point cost at VB will likely get eaten up rather quickly by higher maintenance fees. In the long run, VB will be more expensive.

You will likely be able to get something at WDW using VB points, as long as you are flexible with exact dates and resort. Be carefull of early December, and spring break, though.

All that being said, Vero is an awesome resort, and we have points there. We use those points for the 11 month window at Vero in order to secure the finer things, such as a beach cottage.

Good luck!... :drinking:

I agree that buying at VB with the idea of almost solely using the points at WDW is a bad idea. And while you might be successful most, or even all the time, why complicate your life such. The short term savings are not enough to do so and in the long run it's likely to be more expensive. At least buy on site where you can book something at 11 months out so you don't get shut out at all.

I wouldn't recommend VB unless you plan to stay there on a regular basis. The fees are way too high and they just seem to be sitting there on the resale site.

We bought HH b/c it had a good combination of low point cost and low mf's. We also plan to stay there every other summer, so the 11 month booking advantage was important too.

We have no desire to go to WDW during the busy times (Easter, Christmas, etc.) so we figure we'll never be shut out at 7 months at OKW or SSR.

As everyone says, buy where you want to stay.

Thanks for the information. I will start looking for a re-sale in the Boardwalk/Beach Club area. Are the maitenence fees you speak of the annual dues.. that is charged per point, or is there another fee i have yet to read about.. :)
Thanks!

Yes, they are talking about the annual dues. Maintenance fees and annual dues are used interchangably here and mean the same thing.

Best wishes -

I agree with the other posters who say that they wouldn't buy VB to stay exclusively at WDW resorts. Over the long haul, you will likely spend more money due to fees.

On top of that, people who are looking at buying into VB should be aware that DVC still hasn't announced whether or not there will be a special assessment, or how much that assessment will be in order to pay for the major hurricane damage, repairs and loss of income at Vero Beach.

Good luck deciding where to buy!

your March trip should be fine.

but the first week of Dec is very, very popular with DVC members - so I would think no on this one.

although you may be able to get with SSR or oKW (because they are so big) even then.

but I won't count on it.

We own at BCV, SSR and VB - do not plan as others have stated to be able to use VB points at WDW Orlando spots - you would be ok most of the time but not guaranteed on resorts or room types - the mtce fees are higher there as well as much as $1 more per point per year and are trending upwards faster than the WDW locations.

If mtce fees are a concern, OKW and SSR have consistently lower mtce fees than the other resorts

cheers

When hubby and I bought in 2002 we bought Vero thinking about a few years down the road. To date we have never been to Vero and have always stayed at WDW. We still do the WDW thing with a teenager who has to be on go all during vacation. LOL In a couple years we will be doing the empty nest relaxing vacations and we love baseball and want to go on vacation during spring training and will need the 11 month window to book at Vero during that time -- plus the idea of more low-keyed, relaxing just us vacations. LOL I hope that made sense, I'm still on first cup of coffee.
