One Mom and Three Kids Tackle the World in a Week - Dec '09 Trip Report - Complete :)

Girl trips are SO MUCH FUN!!!

You can bring the kids back some fun things to get them excited for the next trip. :)

Sometimes, you just need to do some things for yourself. I felt bad the time I went w/o Jill and Brooklynn, but my friend and I had some very enjoyable friend time. We saw different things than we would have with a little one in tow, and we went at a different pace. I say go for it! Know that it will be a different kind of trip, but a good one, I am sure.

Ask Kschafer. She just returned from a girl trip. She may have some good advice for you.

I saw go for it!!! Even moms deserve getaways! Promise the kids fun presents and by the time you arrive, you won't feel guilty at all! :goodvibes

Don't worry about the monorail fiasco. I think we've all had those moments. One time I dragged my BFF all the way to the TTC on the monorail because I thought we'd be able to catch a bus home from there to POFQ. I had no clue that the buses hadn't stopped there in ages. :headache:

DTD was crazy when I was there in Dec. too, and that was during the day. I'm thinking it must have been because of the holidays. It was crazy though. I thought I'd avoid all of that being there in the afternoon.

You should go! Even mom's need to have a little time away sometimes. :)

OOOH! I know my DH would not mind me going on his b-day but he and the kids would be INSANELY jealous if I went to WDW without them. That's a tough one. DH and I joke about how SOMEDAY we'll be able to go without kids and do whatever we want. (In about 15 years!) I think I might find myself thinking, "oh, DD7 would love to see this..." and stuff like that. But as they get older and have been a bunch of times, that might lessen. That's when I'll be able to go without kids.

Would you be able to bring them each back something special? Plus, do they know the family is going to go back in 2011? It might ease their pain.
Guess I'm not much help am I? I know I would love to do the same trip, just me and a girlfriend. I just think the timing would have to be perfect and I'd need to be in the right frame of mind to go without the family.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm such a sappy mom. I'd see Disney and think of every little fun thing about our last trip and then I would cry. I have a hard time leaving them for more than an overnight. But yes, I could definitely bring them something special and yes they sure know we are going in about a year. :)

They would love to get gifts from Disney, that is for sure!! And you are right MeMom, moms do need to do things for themselves. :lovestruc I struggle with that. I will look up Kschafer today. Does she have a TR?

Thanks Jackie! I'm going to try hard to get rid of the guilty feelings. Why is this such a tough decision for me?! :rolleyes1

You're making me feel better about the whole monorail drama, thank you. I felt very much like a newbie. Thank you for the encouragement about the possible trip. :goodvibes

Go! Have some fun for yourself. I would love that opportunity.
I went to FL twice with out my older 2 when they were young. I went with my girlfrined, and one year her brother came with us too. Her parents have a winter home in Zepherhills, so we stayed there. About an hour from Disney. We did MK one day, and Universal. The next year we did Bush Gardens and a few other places. We did alt of fun stuff, that I know my kids would love, but it was nice to just be an adult for a week too. They had alot of fun at home without me, and I called them all the time. They actually seemed boared with me when I called. LOL!

I've enjoyed your trip report. Sorry to hear about your camera issues but congratulations on the adoption of your son.

Funny that the kids were bored with you. Mine would probably be the same way!!

Thanks for reading and for the congratulations on our adoption! Thankfully the camera was repaired for free under warranty. :thumbsup2

Go Kelli! Yes, your kids will be a bit bummed, but they are going back. Mommies need a little 'me' time once in awhile. Bring them back something special and go and enjoy yourself.

Just for kicks and giggles I asked my family what they would think if I were invited for a weekend at WDW. The girls were okay as long as they got a gift and could go back for another trip. DH said, NO WAY!
He wants to go too and would be so jealous!!! I guess there might be a chance that he and I could go together someday. The girls were not as receptive to that idea, so we might have to go to Vegas without them. Not that it's an option anytime soon, we have a WDW trip coming up that will quite literally eat up all our funds (DXDP!)

I hope you've decided to go. I always think I am a better mom when I have a little time away from the family. I have to be away to realize how much I miss them. KWIM?

I haven't not gotten very much "me" time in a long, long while to tell you the truth. That's why I am strongly considering it.

Vegas would be fun too! And I think you are right about the being away and missing them. That's very true. It's so easy to get caught up in the day to day craziness.

OK here's my 2 cents worth.

Having been on 2 solo trips, one for my training and then the other for the Moms Panel EE5K reunion it was very good fun but I really missed my hubbie and kids. Everytime I went on a ride I would think that I'd have a much better time with the family, sappy I know but true!!!! But then I also had to endure about 13 hours of travel time alone too so you wouldn't have that. :rotfl: Maybe do lots of things which you wouldn't do with the family such as the spa or a segway tour because it was when I rode our favourite TT that I really missed them!!!

Jo, I'm sappy too. I just really enjoy being with my kiddos. It probably all stems back to my less than stellar childhood and lack of anything very close with my parents when I was a kid. That's deep, lol! But I do know I am a much better mom when I have had a little "me" time so that's a really important note too. :goodvibes

I fell so behind and you're almost done now! How is Dimitri feeling? My cousin got a concussion recently -- he plays lacrosse and got hit in the head with the ball. He was wearing a helmet but the lacrosse ball is still a really big, hard thing and it hit him really hard. He's older than Dimitri, he is fifteen, but I know it was really scary for my aunt and uncle -- I can't imagine what you were going through!

My opinion for the girls trip...do it! I think you totally deserve some "me" time and I'm sure that your kids knowing that they will be going next year, and having the trip planned, will make it a lot easier for them. :goodvibes

Hi you! :) Thanks for asking about Dimitri. He's all better now, thankfully. I'm still a little nervous but he's all boy and always challenges his boundaries. Ugh! LOL! I'm sorry your cousin experienced a concussion as well. They are most definitely so scary. :(

Thank you for the advice on the girls' trip. I may have an announcement tomorrow.
:goodvibes
