One Mom and Three Kids Tackle the World in a Week - Dec '09 Trip Report - Complete :)

In movie news, did you all see the Toy Story 3 trailer? I'm a fan of Disney on Facebook and it was posted there this morning. It looks hilarious!!! We are so excited to see it this summer. I'm definitely buying advance tickets once they come out. We are HUGE Toy Story fans! popcorn::

I swear I had commented here! :confused3

Isn't EoS yummy? We have only eaten there once, but yum, yum, I loved it! The line always seems to be crazy long though!

I hope you get your Christmas ornament...!

Wonderful pictures of the girls at the BBB. Whenever I read those experiences I always get a tad misty-eyed. If I ever had a girl, I will spoil her there!!!

Sounds like such a great day at DTD! I don't blame ya for canceling Chef Mickey's, sounds like it was the right decision at the time.

I have seen one, it was pretty short and had Buzz in Spanish mode. :rotfl:

Big Toy Story fans here, too! We are super-excited about June.

It looks very cute, although I hope they do not ruin a very good thing by trying to get to adult/cutesie with it.
The preview I saw last night had Barbie saying to Ken, "Nice as-cot."

As a teacher of young and very impressionable children, I'm not really fond of little things like that that might be 'cute' on a grown-up show, but not so cute for kids to hear. And repeat and repeat and repeat, as we know they will. I guess I'm hoping Disney won't succumb to peer pressure, in a way, and step over boundaries that may not be good for our kids. I want them to set the bar high morally and still be the cool kid, if you know what I mean. Other than that little clip, everything else I have seen looks very cute.

We'll be having a Toy Story get-together at our house to celebrate the movie. We should be good and hyped up by then, since our trip will only be a couple of weeks away at that point! :jumping1:

Love your report, Kel!!! I'm so glad you saw Disney at Christmas with all the decorations. When we went at that time of year I was pg with Grace but I rode everything anyway. ;)

Makes me think I need to look into BBB for the girls. It didn't even cross my mind because they aren't exactly into the "princesses" anymore, but it would probably be a hit. Annelise loves all things girly and this would most likely be the last trip that Grace would stand for it. LOL

Who can't wait to show 11 people the World in June!!

Oooh, I agree with you MeMom! This sort of thing hits a nerve in me...I don't even like it in adult movies! Seriously, is that even necessary for the plot of the story??! NO! Takes completely away from it and makes 'stupid humor' as I call it.

Okay, stepping down off my soapbox before I get really rollin'....

It seems to me that almost everything nowadays is loosing its innocence.:sad2: But if Disney tries to go down that road, I think it will be suicide for them b/c the heart of Disney is in young families. If they loose their family audience, they can hang it up. I'm holding out hope though. Disney is all we have left for family entertainment, since everything else is so "tainted". So I REALLY hope that Disney continues to take the high road, although I agree that I've been seeing more and more little things slipping in lately.

I saw it last night too. Really unnecessary. It almost slips under the radar it's so subtle-which just makes me even more irritated with it!

The line was definitely crazy long. The sandwiches were really good though! BBB was so much fun but probably our last trip, which makes me sad that my girls are growing up so quickly. It's really hard for me to come to terms with that. :sad1:

Ew, I didn't even hear that comment. I agree that too much of that junk is finding its way into children's entertainment, where it has no place at all. I want to come to the Toy Story fun MeMom!! :cool1:

Hi Ker!! :thumbsup2 BBB was a lot of fun and a little spendy but worth it for the girls. They loved it and talk about it all of the time. Thanks for reading hun!

You are right, it is not at all necessary for the plot. It has no place. Yuck.

That's fitting! :lmao:

I hope and have good faith that Disney will not do so. :goodvibes It's why I love Disney World so much. It's an escape from sometimes icky reality.

:lmao: Yep, that's ME!

I agree with you RinkyTinkyTinky! If Disney goes down that road, the ratings will go dooooooooooooooooown I'm sure.

Definitely!

 I've had that smilie for ages and had been looking for an excuse to use it

I do agree with you - I saw the trailer this morning, that comment is inappropriate and unnecessary :sad2:

Why do moviemakers think that kind of crud is okay? :confused3

I saw it last night too. Really unnecessary. It almost slips under the radar it's so subtle-which just makes me even more irritated with it!

It did slip under the radar for me. I didn't see it the first time. Definitely subtle and not needed. :sad2:

Hey all! I just wanted to let you know that I'm working on an update right now and should hopefully have one posted if Youtube cooperates for me. I'm at work so am hoping to get something up this afternoon. :thumbsup2 I then plan on getting caught up on everyone else's PTR and TRs.

I've also sort of come to terms with the fact that we won't be able to take an October 2010 trip. I was holding out hope that a great discount would come along and we could move the trip up from 2011. No go. :sad2: I took both girls to the orthodontist on Monday and got really horrible sticker shock. Ugh. There's no way to swing a Disney trip when you have two sets of braces to pay for, starting next month. We also are having some car troubles so that compounds it a little bit. Oh well, I guess. We're lucky for the trips we've already taken and know we're going back in October 2011 so we'll just shoot for that.
:goodvibes

In my last post, we had decided to cancel our Chef Mickey ADR and just relax in our OKW villa. The decision was the best one and we all felt really refreshed. Our plan that evening was to spend it in Magic Kingdom, grabbing a bite to eat and watching Wishes. Spectro would be that night as well but we were a little more interested in seeing Wishes. We had seen Spectro before but never sat to watch Wishes from start to finish so we all really wanted to do so.

Wishes was set to start at 8pm so we all met up at South Point around 5pm to catch a MK bus. Since this was a yellow park, according to TGM, we had no trouble getting a bus with very little wait.

I was really excited about Wishes and was really hopeful to get a good viewing spot. I had read much online about the best places to sit, what time to get there and all of that typical planning jazz that you all know so much about. Our target was the Rose Garden. It seems be sort of a hidden gem so before we got our eats, I wanted to find exactly where the Rose Garden was. Right past the popcorn cart and there the little path was.

Disney2009281.jpg

Nobody was there yet as it was pretty early. I didn’t want to take a big chance though so we all decided to go find some supper and bring it back to eat there. I might be overly cautious but golly gee, we’d have a place to sit, right? ;)

Wasn’t the view gorgeous?

Disney2009279.jpg

We looked off in the distance and decided to take the bridge to TomorrowLand. Cosmic Ray’s seemed to fit the bill. We got our food very quickly so sat at the outside tables to have our meal. The kids got typical kid food, which was chicken nuggets and I got the BBQ pork sandwich. They gobbled up their nuggets as most kids do but I tossed about half of my sandwich. It wasn’t that hot. We took their grapes and carrots and our drinks to go and went back to the spot in the Rose Garden.

We had chosen to sit around the little cement area there, where there are plants and shrubs. The little circular area, I’m not sure what it’s called exactly but you can see it here:

Disney2009280.jpg

It seems like we sat there for quite awhile but time actually went by quite quickly. I brought glow sticks from home for all of the kids and they had a ball with those, despite one leaking onto Mykenah’s face somehow. Ew!

Disney2009284.jpg

We took some pictures while waiting, trying to pass the time-

Isn’t this pretty?
Disney2009285.jpg

We saw these lovely girls, who were dressed as if they were going to prom or something. I’m not sure what was up with their fanciness.

Disney2009288.jpg

The kids made a couple new friends when another family came to join us in the Rose Garden.

We also could see the tops of Spectro going by so we watched that from where we were sitting and danced along to the music that we all know so well. :)

There were a couple Photopass peeps out and about around that area so my sister and I took turns going to take those pictures.

We also spent lots of time watching the gorgeous castle light up and change into phenomenal colors. Here are some of my favorites-

Continued in next post...

It was time to watch the show!! I was super excited because I knew Tink would be flying right over our heads! I have video of the beginning of Wishes and her flight. I’m a dweeb and of course, cried when all of that was going on. Sap alert! I hope it comes through clearly but please forgive me if it does not. You can probably hear my voice on there, sounding like the most excited one, ever. I know I also motion for Dimitri to not hang over the fence so you’ll hear that. LOL! Forgive me for most of it being sideways, duh.

Here are also a few still shots, which aren’t that great since as you know, my camera was being poopy.

The kids were entranced.

And just like that, it was over. :( It’s such a beautiful show that it’s over very quickly, isn’t it? And now, we had to deal with the mass chaos of exiting guests.

I thought we’d hang back for a short while, gather up all of our stuff and make sure we threw away all of our cups, etc. that we had brought along. We headed out once that was done and decided to get some ice cream before leaving. It seems like 5,000 other guests had the same idea.

Disney2009321.jpg

We didn’t wait too long actually and the line moved pretty fast. But there was drama within this magical place. There was a family of four two spots in front of us and then an older lady, around 70 or so. Behind us was a group of foreign visitors, maybe 7 of them going only on memory? We placed our order for six cones and went over to the left to wait in the little waiting area they have here. Well, you would not believe it but they started handing out cones and calling out the flavors as they did. We had five people in front of us so I knew they weren’t ours yet. But guess what? The foreign family began to take cones that were not meant for them. They knew there were people in front of them that could have ordered the same flavor as them. But since there was really not a ton of room to the left so the previous people couldn’t get to the counter quickly enough, they were taking ice cream that wasn't meant for them. The family of four quickly became disgusted and was being pretty verbal about it, while the foreign family ignored them and ate someone else’s ice cream, while waiting for the rest of theirs. I was standing next to the older lady and asked her what flavor she ordered. A single order of strawberry and that was the next to be called. Well, someone else in that family stepped up and tried to take her cone! Um, no…I wasn’t having that. She couldn’t move quickly so I got right up to the counter and asked if it was the only cone on that order and it was. It was her cone. I then said aloud “You know that’s not your ice cream, don’t take it.” She rolled her eyes at me and looked away. The older lady thanked me and left the shop, also a bit upset about having her ice cream almost given to someone else. The family of four had half of their order and now needed to wait until the foreign family’s original order was called out so they could get the rest of their ice cream. It was just ridiculous and so obvious what they were doing. :sad2: We got our cones and headed out. People like that just need to leave and not ruin the magic for everyone else. They knew those cones did not belong to them. They placed the order and magically, two milliseconds later their cones were there. No way. Ack!

But anyway, enough of that subject. We walked very slowly down Main Street, trying to absorb as much of that grand place as we could. Bye bye pretty castle.

Disney2009279.jpg

We waited through one bus and were able to get onto the next one to take up back to Old Key West. It was a later night that were had been doing so I’m glad we had slept in that day. It worked out really well. Once again, baths for the kiddos and a little Stacy tv. (We must have watched this a million times that week.) I checked my work email, made sure the payroll I worked once while in Florida was done completely, checked in with my husband and then also went to sleep. It was a wonderful, magical, special, beautiful, memorable night watching one of the best fireworks shows on Earth! :goodvibes

Up next…a rainy morning at Epcot and guess how many times we rode Soarin'?!

OH! I just love those castle pictures. I made one of mine the desktop on my computer. Your rose picture is gorgeous!
Stinks about the ice cream snitchers! But Wishes, ice cream and a stroll down Main Street is a wonderful way to end the day!
I wish I was there.

Oh, I feel your pain with the braces! I think we are going to luck out and Justin isn't going to need them, but Jared's mouth is a jumbled mess! The dentist told me at his last appointment that I could wait until summer but then we were going to have to take him to the orthodontist - I'm scared to see what that bill is going to look like

On to your update - that photo of the rose with the castle in the background is gorgeous! I love it!

Isn't Wishes just the best way to end an evening? :cloud9:

Too bad those rude people had to put a damper on your mood :headache:

Wishes is always so wonderful to watch at any time of the year, but I bet it was extra magical with those castle lights! :goodvibes

What a family with the ice cream! Kudos to you for stepping up and claiming that older woman's ice cream! :thumbsup2

Sounds like you guys had a GREAT spot for Wishes!! I'll definitely keep that spot in mind in April. :thumbsup2
