One leg swollen and not the other

Can anyone help out here why this is happening to my friend.

anyone know any reasons for one foot and lower leg to swell, but not the other? I am lying here with my foot up in the air--it kinda hurts---heading to the dr. tomorrow.

Call your doctor - before tomorrow.. Could be nothing - could be a serious indication of something else..

Possible blood clot. Cellulitis. Phlebitis. Sure you don't want to have this checked tonight?

I agree (and I'm a doctor). Have your friend call her doctor tonight. That's why they have someone "on-call".

My first thought was blood clot. I would call the MD's office service.

I also suggest calling doctor ASAP in case of a blood clot. I had swelling in both legs a few years ago and that was the first thing they checked for; it turned out to be from a thyroid problem

This happened to a friend of mine, except it was her arms. One was swollen looking, as though it was retaining fluid...the other was normal.

I took her to the ER.

Blood clot. She's 35, had recently started BC pills, they thought that contributed to it.

This happened to me when I was pregnant. My doctor said this - both legs swollen, go see your doctor. One leg swollen, go see your doctor NOW.

Tell your friend, please - it may be nothing but MUCH better safe than sorry.

BTW, mine wasn't because of a blood clot but the doctor thought it was. I gained 9lbs the day my leg started to swell! Turned out it was the baby lying on something the wrong way. The good news is that the ultrasound of the leg is one of the most comfortable medical tests you can have! I fell asleep...!

I agree with everybody else, please don't wait to see a doctor. You should go tonight because if it is a blood clot, it could be an emergency situation.
