We did a quickie 1 day Disney trip this weekend. We are finalizing the adoption of our 9 year old daughter next month, it was her first Disney trip and her birthday is next month (she'll be 10) so lots to celebrate! We're only 2 hours away, so we left early Friday morning, checked into our hotel at POR (room was ready at 7:45 AM!) and took the bus to Magic Kingdom. We got there right at opening and were able to hit Splash Mt twice and Thunder Mtn with no lines! Then we grabbed a Mickey Waffle for breakfast (yum!) and walked around Tom Sawyer's Island. We didn't find paint brushes, but 3 families on our return trip had them. The park was CROWDED after that. We did Haunted Mansion, then Hubby and Daughter did the Speedway while I went to get fast passes for Space Mt. Realized Hubby had the park tickets, so I couldn't get fast passes once I got there! When they got off (40 minutes), we decided to wait in line at Space Mt. (sign said 60 minutes). About 45 minutes in, the ride broke down. We waited about 30 minutes while they tried to fix it, then they kicked everyone off. They gave us fast passes to come back anytime. Getting out of there took forever.

Our girl was pretty grumpy, tired and overwhelmed so we took the bus back to POR and had some lunch. The food in the food court (burgers for hubby and I, chicken strips for her) was disgusting. Really poor quality. Then we hit the pool. It was FREEZING!!!! I thought it would be heated. We spent some time shivering in the water and then enjoying the hot tub. Then we decided to try the pool at French Quarter and took the water taxi over. MUCH BETTER! That pool was heated! And our daughter liked the slide much better. We soaked in the hot tub there, too. We ate some beignets there. We took the water taxi back to the room to change into dry clothes. That water taxi driver gave our litte girl a big gemstone ring! (which she pretends is an engagement ring from justin Bieber).

After we changed, we took the water taxi to Downtown Disney around 6 PM to poke around some shops and have dinner. We ate at Earl of Sandwich. I had the holiday sammie I've seen raved about on here, but hated it! Hubby really liked his plain turkey and cheddar and Sweetie Girl loved her turkey club.

We took the bus to the Contemporary and then the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. The bus depot guy gave our girl a container of bubbles because she was wearing a birthday badge! (She also had a first time badge and we all had the celebration badge for the adoption.) The trip back to MK took way longer than we expected and we didn't get there until 9. Everyone was gathering for the parade, but we took off for Tomorrowland and used our fast passes for Space Mt. Our daughter LOOOOOVED IT! Then we did Speedway again, Peter Pan and made it to Minnie's House (but Minnie was already gone) before things closed up at 10.

Right before the fireworks stared, some cast members walked up to us from behind us and said, "Hey Folks!" Then one of them asked our daughter to pick a hand behind us back. She said left and he gave her a Mickey sticker and told her to guess again. She said right and whipped out a GIANT COOKIE!!!!! They said, "Enjoy the fire works!" We took her photo with them.

After the fireworks (which she and hubby thought were way too loud), we were trapped behind the rope forever. Getting back to the hotel took until almost midnight. The beds at POR are really small and creakey.

Saturday morning we got up and had breakfast at the POR food court. Again, POOR food! Our daughter had a Mickey Waffle and it was horrible! Very dense and didn't taste good. So strange since the one at MK the day before was light. fluffy and delish. I had an omelet which was okay, but not worth $10. The potatos that came with it were cold and greasy. Hubby didn't bother eating because nothing looked good to him.

Then we checked out, packed up the car and took the water taxi to French Quarter for swimming and hot tubbing. We headed home around noon.

And here she is with the cast members and her cookie!

That is so sweet! Glad to hear ya'll had such a good time and congratulations on all the great things going on in your life right now! :cheer2:

That smile on her face is precious! Congrats to you all on her adoption. I guess you'll just have to come back to check out another resort and then keep coming back until you find the one that fits your family best!

The monorail is fun, but the best way to get from CR to MK is the walkway. It only takes a few minutes.

That cookie RULES!

Congratulations on everything! So glad you had a good time. :)

Congrats on the adoption. I love that picture of your little girl ( she is adorable) and I know you will treasure that memory of celebrating when she legally became your daughter for years to come.
