One day ticket

When we bought one day tickets last fall for the free dining, we were told that they never expire. Our family of 3 ended up with 6 because we had APs, and a stay longer than 10 days.

There is a post on the Codes & Rates Board from someone who was told that the ticket is good up to one year from the check in date.

She thought that was wrong, so she called back & asked another CM who told her they never expire. She explained what the first CM said, so the 2nd CM called ticketing to verify & was told that they do expire one year from check in. Otherwise you have to purchase the no expiration.


Has anyone else been told this?

Is it a new policy - and if so, will tickets purchased last year still be honored regardless?

I just booked my trip on Monday and told the TA about the tickets because I only bought 1 day for the free dining and she questioned it. She asked me if I was sure because she was worried that they would expire. She then talked with the Disney rep to verify what I had said and he confirmed that as long as they are not activated, they would never expire. I hope he was right. Of course, I don't know that I'll be able to stay away for a year so it may not be an issue.

Generaly with the new MYW tixs, they never expire without being used... but of course this is a special promotion so things can change.... And of course is going to be hard to find out the answer without physicly taking the ticket down to Florida and having to scan it to see what it says as they generaly do not tell over the phone.

It shouldn't have anything to do with the promotion - either 1 day tickets never expire, or they do expire in a year.

Same with it needing to be scanned - it's not a matter of what's on the ticket.

It's a room key, so there's nothing specific about ticket content.
And my paperwork actually says it's a 4 day ticket - which it isn't. We paid for 1 day tickets. Unless they were being very generous.

The thing that doesn't make sense about that is that you can't even find a price anywhere for no expire option on a one day ticket. Everywhere says n/a which tends to confirm that it's by definition a one day ticket, since there is no way to use it other than within 14 days of first use.

I know. Before we bought the tickets last year, we researched it very carefully to make sure they didn't expire.

The fact that this other information hasn't been posted here, allears, etc., makes me think that it's incorrect. But I want to find out for sure - don't want to gett to wdw & find out our tickets are expired.

But it is reasonable to expect there should be some published literature describing unusual or irregular expiration rules. Without anything in writing we would expect the ticket is just like any other Magic Your Way ticket, which for a one day ticket means good until used.

I should add, though, that I wouldn't be surprised to learn that disney might be considering closing the loophole of being able to buy just a one day ticket to get a package. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some change in the near future, either by making 1 days expire or by heightened requirements on the tickets that must be purchased with a multi-day package.

It would be a disaster to the guest as well as an embarrassment and public relations nightmare to Disney if someone ordered 10 day tickets with hopping and water park fun with their package but used annual passes instead this time, only to find out upon arrival next time two years later that the tickets had expired without warning.

I think some packages have minimum length ticket requirements.

That's not what I was suggesting. I was suggesting that I wouldn't be surprised if Disney changed the rules. As with old park hoppers, I assume they would continue to honor whatever conditions passes were sold under in the past, but going forward they would have new rules. If you buy a 10 day MYW and, when you buy it, the rule is that it expires, it wouldn't be without warning. It would just be a new rule, right?

You're not kidding. Last Sept I had an AP, but my son and D-I-L did not. I took advantage of the free dining and decided to go ahead and buy us all seven day MYW tickets with pluses. I didn't mind buying myself a seven day with pluses ticket, because I planned on taking my GD back this year and knew I would use it then. I made a point of checking the day we left and verified that my 7 day ticket would 'never' expire. I also asked them to please take the ticket off my room key and give me a regular mylar ticket, but both the resort and MK guest relations said they couldn't do that. After we got back I read where several fellow DISers were able to do so. So when I went back in Dec I tried again and the CM working guest relations at MK took my Sept room key and transferred the ticket to a mylar one. I was again assured that the ticket would not expire until 14 days after I first inserted it into a turnstyle and that I could still use it years from now.

I decided to take my GD back last Jan in order to get one more trip out of my AP. I wasn't planning on going back this year until the free dining promotion came out. This time I bought just one day tickets and plan to use my 7 day MYW (with pluses) from last Sept. The trip last Sept was 17th-24th and the trip this year will be the 22nd-30th. I'm wondering if I might need to move my trip up two weeks just to be on the safe side?

One rule that could be added is disallowing upgrading of tickets older than a certain date. This has already happened for pre-2005 park hoppers. Under current pricing, using a one day MYW ticket (together with other tickets) on a multi-day vacation can be a waste of money.

Suppose disallowing of upgrades also disallows adding non-expiration to old tickets although new tickets could still be purchased with non-expiration. It is not that bad a loss to use a 10 day pass for a 6 day vacation and have to let the rest go to waste.

So far, since the beginning of time (1971) all WDW tickets have remained valid for use today for whatever they could have been used for when purchased.
