Even though I have already loss 25lbs I am still overweight! And I did not get this way overnight - and so I have decided my weight lose will not be quick either. When I started Atkins in March I thought by now I'd be 50lbs lighter! Right now I am on the "Stay off the scale" challenge - I did slip once but only once! I have decided that if I lose 5lbs/month - which I feel is a reasonable goal then by mid may 2005 I will definately be at GOAL! and there are tons of little goals on the way - exercising - that goal is met - If I don't exercise one day I feel "ICKY" "GROSS" I need to exercise to feel right now :D. By our annual holiday trip to WDW(end nov/begin dec), I should be 20lbs lighter than I am right now! I guess what I am saying is that all our little goals really in the long run add up to GREAT BIG changes in our appearance and our health. My general outlook is happier!:D We should all be proud of every little achievment we make in our pursuit to a healthy us!

What a wonderful post, Sue! I couldn't agree with you more. It's so hard to see the progress sometimes, especially when it doesn't happen as quickly as we think it should. What a great encouragement you've given to everyone, thanks! :)

Hi Sue!

A fellow stay off the evil scale challenger checking in on your thread. How right you are!!! I am trying to savor the small changes that occur. I still have another 70 pounds to lose and I know I'll be on the weight loss Phase of South Beach for at least another 9 months and possibly longer. I've tried not to even set a date for goal at this point. The weight will come off when it does. That's one of the reasons I like our challenge so much. It is taking the pressure off me to see a drop on the scale everyday. When I didn't see a loss, I felt like a failure. Now I just go by how my clothes fit or what my measurements are.

I am enjoying exercising everyday; the freedom that comes with feeling so much lighter; being able to run up the stairs in my condo; wearing smaller sized clothes; seeing my collar bones for the first time in oh so many years and the compliments I get from people that notice my loss.

Thanks for this post, you help to put things in the proper perspective for those of us who have a long road ahead of us! :wave2:

Great Post, Sue!

I struggle with the "hurry up and be thin" mentality all the time. I seem to think I am working sooooo very hard I should see more results. But like you said, I didn't get this way overnight. And I know that the slow weight loss is the weight loss that sticks.

Thanks for the great reminder to keep it in perspective!

Along with that, if you go slowly, it's more of a lifestyle change. This will also keep you from going right back up. It seems liek the quicker you lose, the quicker you gain!

Plus, I was also just recently told teat yo-yo dieting has a bad effect on your immune system. I'm not going anywhere near as fast as I hoped (some of that is my lack of consistency), but I have changed my (and DH's) way of eating. SO, if I keep it up, I'll get there eventually. And, I won't feel so deprived that I'll go overboard once I'm at goal!

Thanks for the reminder about how important those little goals are, Sue. If I look at the overall picture it's easy for me to get discouraged. I've been losing slowly, so it seems like I've been at it forever, & I still have a long way to go. If I focus on the little goals, it dose help me to keep things in perspective & I don't get discouraged so easily.

Yep Sue,

Baby steps are best! You put it into perspective for alot of us.
I don't want to loose fast and then gain it all back again. It would be better to take it nice and slow. A lifetime change. That we only notice from time to time. But add up to on great big better US...

I know for me I am taking my goals in 20 pound increments. Thats a huge success to me.

July:)

Sue,

I just wanted to say Congratulations on your 25 pound weight loss. That is awesome!!!

It's so true what you say about baby steps.

When I first started trying to lose weight in January, and my goal was to be a certain weight by November 30th, it seemed overwhelming.

Even when I started out, it was difficult for me to even think about the entire day. I'd just take it meal by meal. Before I knew it a week went past.

Even now that I've lost over 40 pounds I still do baby steps. According to Fitday I'm still moderately overweight (I started in January as severely overweight). I still have 25 pounds to go to reach my goal. Will I do it? I sure hope so, but if I don't then I know I've tried.

Congratulations on your weight loss so far. You should be proud.

As I read your post this quote came into my mind, "The hardest part of a thousand mile journey begins with the first step". Your have already taken that first step and pretty soon your journey will be complete.

I know you can do it by remaining strong and focused on the goal in hand.
