Once Upon A Time

The minute we saw the nurse, we both said, "Nurse Ratchett!" and the lurking janitor who appeared to be Native American clinched it for us.

It was definitely a guy and the funny thing is the first thing I thought about was that Native American guy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

After all, she was in the town's looney bin :rotfl:

Here's the sticking point with this theory. Emma is supposed to be the one to break the curse. I'm expecting that she has a direct hand in it - but who am I kidding, we're dealing with the people who wrote LOST. ;)

I think the reason I jumped to female was that he made me think of Marla from A League of Their Own. :rotfl:

Still...who is he?

Best. Episode. Ever!!!!!!!

YES!! I loved it! The last 10 minutes were unbelievable, but I think the episode as a whole was the best one ever.

I believe she knew full well who he is, she was just testing him. Rumpelstiltskin has a way of twisting his answers in a way that he doesn't give you any answer at all.
Also, I will head up the official "I don't think the chipped cup is Rumpelstiltskin's son" club. I think it is more of a reminder of the one who did love him. Or as a connection to her. Remember back in Archie's episode when Archie brought Rumpelstiltskin all of the things he had pilfered, he gave him a list of the names of the former owners of the items. So there might be a significance to having an item and knowing who it belonged to. Kind of like the compass?

I agree. The cup has nothing to do with his son, it's all about Belle. When his shop was robbed, he knew right away that the cup was gone and that was the 1 thing he had to get back.

The moment when Rumple said his name actually gave me goosebumps. Then he called her "your magesty." Oh, it is ON now!

Great episode!

That's what I said to DH. Forget Emma, the battle is on between Regina and Mr. Gold. I can't wait! And I loved how the emotions Mr. Gold had in Fairytale land carried over to Storybrooke. For that short time, he was not able to separate the 2 characters or their emotions. I loved that!

I know there's been a lot of speculation that Mr. Gold/Rumple is the real villain, not Regina/EQ, but after last night, I'm not so sure. I see Rumple's villainy coming from self-loathing, pain and anger over a lost love. Even though both characters are similar with the pain and anger over a lost love and screwing with other people, I think Belle showed that Rumple has good in him, he's just not letting that part of him take over. I think for him, the self-loathing is a major driving force behind his actions. I don't think the EQ has any good in her at all. She is pure evil, down to the core. She even killed her own father to further her plans. That's cold.

Wow, what an episode! that had LOST characteristics written all over it! I even felt bad for Rumpy! I loved the Chip reference, that was really cute. And the ending... just... wow!

I thought SHE was made to look more like Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over The Cukoo's Nest~Tinkerdreams has another reference with the creepy janitor guy (the Chief character, right?)~I really need to watch the episode before checking on this thread, lol....I saw the last few minutes and that's it

Yes, she looked exactly like Nurse Ratchet.

I recall people being concerned about Emilie de Ravin being Australian and using an American accent. I'm watching right now, and I think she's using a bit of a toned-down Australian accent. I remember watching her on the show Roswell back in the day, and on that show, she did a straight-up American accent and she sounded fine.

I think the reason I jumped to female was that he made me think of Marla from A League of Their Own. :rotfl:

Still...who is he?

When I saw him I thought maybe he was the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

I LOVED last nights episode! I thought it was very significant when the queen said "True loves kiss can destroy any curse" So hers too? Do you think she cursed the characters to never feel/find true love? Maybe that's why Emma is the only one who can break it?
I like Mr. Gold! Ha! I don't see him as evil at all, just someone with power and an axe or two to grind. I feel like he uses his power to teach people a lesson about their choices (and for his own selfish desires too I suppose). He's not very forgiving or compassionate when they realize the flaws of their choices, but I don't think I'd call him evil.
I was thinking the Evil Queen would release Belle to throw Mr. Gold off and possibly cause him to lose his powers, but I suppose that would destroy her curse as well, so maybe she will stay hidden.

Wasn't the cracked cup part of the set he was smashing in the room? Why would the chipped cup be any more special than the rest of the set. I still think it's his son.

If I remember correctly in the scene when Belle was pouring him the tea that cup dropped to the ground that "chipped". I have a feeling he kept that cup because it reminds him of her.

Because the cup is symbol of his relationship with Belle.

I don't think it's his son because when she chipped it, she expected him to go nuts, but he shrugged and said it was just a cup.

He truly seemed not to care. He demonstrated violent anger with her, so if she'd truly broken his son, I can't imagine he would have shrugged it off the way he did.

In the wake of the kiss, he was violent, smashing everything but the one pot and the cup-- which was a tip of the hat to the Disney version. But I think he was sentimental about the cup because it was a symbol of Belle.

Because the chipped one was the one that Belle chipped. The others were in tact, so he had no connection with them. When he saw the chipped one, it brought back feelings/memories of her.

The cup with the chip is NOT his son!

Everyone in the previous 2 posts are right. It is the one she dropped and chipped but he didn't yell at her.

That was a great episode. The rivalry between EQ and Rumple is especially exciting. Unless I am mistaken we still don't know what happened to Rumple's son so my theory is that the queen had something to do with his fate and that is why he is so unwilling to let someone else love him and break the spell because he needs all the magic he can get to get revenge on the queen. He said to Belle that his magic means more to him than she does and I think that is why. BTW who else thinks it is horrible that Regina is using Emma's love of Henry and her wanting to spend time with him to get what she wants. Regina just uses him as a pawn.
On to another couple. I just don't see why David won't leave his wife. He is hurting Mary Margaret (whom he clearly loves) and he will end up hurting Catherine more if he keeps cheating on her. It seems though from the add for next week that something will happen with these three thanks to Regina.
Who else is excited about the little mermaid story line next week?

I'm in the dark here. What was the deal with Lindelof and Martin? :

Martin slammed the ending of LOST. He felt the pay off didn't live up to the body of work, very few questions were answered..basically he got media attention to express what many fans of the show felt. Anyway, afterwards Damon took to Twitter, and thus the "fued" as it was billed in the media began. Kevin Pollak did a great inteview on his webcast/podcast (Kevin Pollak's Chat Show) with Damon. They talk about this briefly a year after the fact. If you have 2 hours to kill, I highly recommend downloading it. Lots of LOST talk in general, and just a great conversation with Damon.

Me too!!!!

Wow, what an episode! that had LOST characteristics written all over it!

Seriously! I was hoping I wouldn't have to think as hard about this show as LOST, or do a bunch of outside reading. Speaking of which, did anybody catch the title of the book MM and David are reading? I didn't catch it during the broadcast, and the tv the TiVo is hooked up to has a small screen and the image isn't sharp enough for me to read it. Grrr.

As much as I hate to say this, there is part of me that is hoping that we are going to get to see some "squirrell baby crazy Claire" in Belle. I doubt it, and that's okay too. I love brave Belle!

Aw, man...the softie in me wants Rumple to find out that Belle is alive...

Me too!

The moment when Rumple said his name actually gave me goosebumps. Then he called her "your magesty." Oh, it is ON now!

Great episode!

Best ever! I loved it!

Did anyone else laugh when Rumple handed Belle the rose? It was right before or after a commercial for The Bachelor. :rotfl:

I did, one more reason I love this show!

:thumbsup2

I love this show but I can see that I need to watch them again, I definitely miss a lot.

:thumbsup2 I've been finding David wimpier and wimpier -- Hope next week finds his lost testosterone.

I feel the same way. This is the part of the story line that has me bored to tears. When the scene turns to them now I am wanting them to move on because we all know nothing is going to happen. They are dragging it out just a little to much for me.:rolleyes1

I'd say he lost something else... but it's a family board.:rolleyes1

ITA.....when David, the dweeb, handed over the wrong Valentine's Day card :confused3 I'm surprised he didn't get a poke in the nose! He really needs to man up--every week his character is diminished by his wishy-washy attitude.

First thing I thought of was One Flew over the Cuckuoo's nest...The rumple character is really getting complex.....
