Once again Bush does his best to set us way back...

Where did I say anything about who made the Hitler comparisons?

What I was repsonding to is that people didn't bring up the Godwin's thing in those other cases. It was, almost without exception.

It might as well be another law. If somebody brings up Nazi's there will be somebody bringing up the Godwin thing.

Honestly, the ONLY person I remember bringing up Godwin's law was Kyle. The people mentioning Nazis, brownshirts, and Hilter the most were those on the left.

Here is just one of many the search came up with. Yes, Kyle was on some, but not even close to being on all of them. And now you owe me for having to look at California Gold to get the search to work.

The thread turns Nazi on page two and Godwin ends it on page three.

And of course it was the people on the left. The right thinks he is the next Jesus. ;)

When we step back and take a look at the whole "embryonic stem cell" issue, I think it is safe to say that the veto has only a tiny effect on stem cell research.
There is a whole world out there that is involved in this research.
The US isn't the only country involved in it.

We are merely "outsourcing" it.

So when did the United States start deciding it was OK to wait around for other countries to do the work for us? We have the capability to LEAD the world in this research, but our leadership is too concerned with keeping support from the religious extreme groups, than he is at advancing a very promising research field.

I still can't see how anyone can actually oppose this bill. It does not create any new embryos for research. It does not encourage abortion. All it does is give the federally funded research teams that are already in place, the same access to the donated embryos from around the country. There will still be federally funded embryonic stem cell research after this veto, it will just be wasted research since the embryos they use are mostly useless.

If you had the power to sign a bill into law that you where morally apposed to, that you see no need for, and that you have proposed other bills that whould cover the same area without those moral issues, would you sign it?

Depends, was I elected to represent the people?

If you had the power to sign a bill into law that you where morally apposed to,?

I have no issues with allowing things I find immoral to still be legal. I see no reason for my morals to be the law of the land.

Personal morals should have no bearing on the decisions of the POTUS. That position is for doing what is best for the country as a whole. How does equal access to research tools hurt the country?

Yep, our pro-life president. Won't support stem-cell research, but has no problem killing 100,000+ Iraqi civivilians, not to mention letting citizens of his own country die (can you say "Hurricane Katrina"?). Wonder what would happen if one of the Bush Twins got leukemia?

Thanks for your response. I wanted to know how people on "the other side" felt based on what I "Think" are GWBs reasons for opposing the bill.

I personnally would have a very hard time signing something I was morally opposed to into law. I "Think" GWB would/has the same problems as I do. :confused3

2 of the areas I would not have that problem are: Gay Marriage and Abortion. I don't think a government should tell adults when the can have a kid or who they can marry.

Just my opinion. :thumbsup2

31,000 US citizens rescued in a 5 day period by Coast Guard and other heroes coordinated by federal state and local employees was letting US citizens die?

My religion has a lot of moral beliefs out of the mainstream. It's pretty much always been that way for Jews. It's pretty easy to view personal morals and legal rights as seperate things... If My moral code says shellfish is an *abomination* I just don't eat it.. I have no desire to try to stop others from eating it..
That's petty much where I come from..If something goes against my moral code,I don't do it... As long as something is not harmful to innocent people, I have no qualms with it being legal.

You were elected by the people based on what you said during the debates and "position taking" times.

The key is that I wouldn't say I would impose my morals over everybody elses.

Somebody already posted my feelings exactly so I'll just repeat those...

This may be one of the most ignorant comments I've ever seen on this board! :confused3

Don't mix George W. Bush in with the real heroes of this country (i.e Coast Guard, National Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines etc.) who defend this country and keep us safe. Bush waited days before he let these fine men and women do their jobs. The blood is on his hands alone.

The Coast Guard launched their operations once the winds dropped below 50 MPH. That was the day the hurricane hit.
