I guess we do budget trips on every trip we go on (disney and otherwise).

We refuse to pay $$$ for a place to sleep and take a shower. Our time is spent in the parks. So value resorts or campground (which seems higher priced than the values) is it for our family. We definitely need to stay on site for EMH and convience, I will not give that up.
We split meals instead of throwing 1/2 of what we purchased away.
We drink water (with flavor packets) because it is better for us than soda.
We are more snackers than eaters while on vacation so I always pack things for the park to munch on while walking from area to area or waiting in lines.
We don't do the dining plan for 2 reason, one being snackers and two having to me at a certain place at a certain time is not for us.

If you do not take any other vacation during the year, I would say budget trip every year. If you just have to have deluxe and nothing below that will suffice, than a trip every 2-3 year is what you will need to do.

I guess my question is what dollar amount do you consider budget and how many people included in that budget?

I would do neither. I enjoy Disney, but it's not enough of a priority to me to make my budget either yearly or every other year.

If I had plenty of money and time to do everything I wanted I might go every two years. If I lived closer, I'd go every year for sure.

I actually prefer budget travel, so putting off a trip to go in a more luxurious style probably wouldn't happen.

We used to go to WDW every year but now we go every other year. In our Disney "off" years we usually do a beach vacation (Destin, FL). We'd like to do a New England trip in our next Disney "off year" (2011).

Some years, like 2009, we didn't take a vacation because the economy had us freaked out so we just added money to our savings account instead.

2010 is our Disney "on" year so we have a trip planned for October. :goodvibes

Tough call. We go sort of midddle ground every 2 years, so maybe I personally would do middle ground every 18 months. :confused3

I stayed off property once and didn't enjoy it nearly as much as on property. It was still fun in the parks, but I like to be surronded in the Disney feeling when we go.

ITA !!

If we have to stay off site, we won't go. But we DO stay in values, because we basically eat and sleep only.

While we COULD afford deluxe / luxury - there are soo many BETTER places for luxurious resorts than WDW :scared1:

HAHA but really, if we're going to pay all that money, we'll be in a place where we spend significant time in the place.

We might be taking my parents and in-laws next time. Still getting rooms at values - maybe 4 rooms this time, so the kids can have their own, connected.

I'm another 'neither.' I don't like eating Disney food or eating out for a week straight. That leaves DVC as my only onsite option and while I LOVE the idea of renting points for AKL it's just way more than I am willing to pay for lodging-and honestly I would get burnt out going every year.

I was wondering everyone's opinion. If given the choice of super budget Disney trip every year ( bringing your own food to the parks.. staying off site at discount hotel, no extras basically), OR a not budget friendly trip every two years ( deluxe resort , dining plan , etc.. ) Which would you rather do ?

We go every year, but we do something in between. We stay at a value resort, no dining plan because it doesn't make sense for us, and we can afford a trip of at least 2 weeks. We also own a timeshare off-site at a great resort, so we don't eat out for every meal (it's fun for us to barbeque in February :goodvibes), but I wouldn't do our disney days from there. With the $14 parking fees, and the extra time we have to travel, especially doing MK without the disney bus, it just isn't as fun and not as economical as you would expect.

EEKS :scared1: No kidding! Parking is $14 a day? That alone is a good reason to stay onsite!

Does anyone know if any values have 3-4 rooms that all connect?

I'd have to do the every 2 year Disney vacation. I could not go to Disney without it being Disney everything (just about).

Budget every year.

I need something to look forward to and 2 years is too far apart.

Also if you get sick/it rains/it has to be cancelled at least you have twice the chances at good vacations.

I voted for once a year. I don't care if we stay onsite or offsite and find most of the food mediocre. We go only for the parks and we can do that relatively low cost and have. But if resorts and restaurants matter to you by all means wait a few years!

My answer doesn't fit your categories. We are forced to go during school vacations, when airfare is very high and Disney doesn't offer much in the way of bargains. We stay at a moderate on site, with no dining plan, and eat mostly counter service with a few sit-down dinners.

We go once every three years at most. Vacations aren't high on our spending priority list.

Wishful thinking? Nope they don't -- the best you could do would be to have 2 family suites next door to each other, but they could never guarantee that you'd even be in the same building.

I'd rather save up and go every other year. Who needs stress over mony on a vacation?

we do about every 2-4 years it just depends what is going on

but we are staying for like 2 weeks each trip,,, in downtown or at the vaules this will be the first time for pre paid dinning in long time...

I like to take my kids to just more then disney but i sure do miss disney all the time.. or maybe all the fun of running around like a kid there lol
