How can we keep in touch with family members onboard ship? I already found out cell phones won't work - can we get 2 way radios like ones availble for rent at WDW parks? Has anyone tried this? Any other ideas?

We had some, but my father kept his turned off so he "wouldn't waste the batteries". That is true, but no one could get him either! I did see families actually using them and they seemed to work great. You should get the ones with a couple of channels at least, because a lot of people use them. You could also bring post it notes and have everyone go back to the room and leave a note as to where they would be. That seems to work for a lot of families too.

We have Motorola's 6210 series radios and they worked great! Better than I expected. I was outside the spa on Deck 9 forward and was talking to my daughter in our cabin on Deck 2 midships.

She also used them to call us after she got out of a movie while we were on Deck 10.

Make sure you get the models with subchannels.

Lots of families are using them this week, including us to keep in contact with our teen. The one problem we run into is using them when we are in an "inner" area - for example - our room is 7629 which is an inner cabin. Sometimes we don't get the signals when it is called out of the cabin. Calling into the cabin is fine. When you are sitting in the internet cafe that is also a spot that you don't get reception very well.

I also agree - get them with the subcodes. And no - they do not rent them on ship, that we have seen yet.
