Onboard charging

I understand that if we link our Disney Visa for onboard charges we will be eligible for some discounts. My question is if we can stop by guest services and use some visa gift cards to pay down our balance and would that cancel any discount from the Disney Visa?

IME, when you link your Disney Visa, your room key/charging card will have a little symbol on it. The discount will be applied at the point of purchase (at the gift shop, for instance) and then put on your account.
So if you got a $50 item, the cashier would see your symbol (or tell them) and you pay $40.
On your onboard account, it shows a $40 charge from the gift shop.

You can stop by Guest Services to apply gift cards to your account without affecting the discount you receive for using the Disney Visa as the payment source at check-in. As the previous posted mentioned, the Disney Visa discount is applied at the time of your purchase. Your Visa card will actually be charged when your account reaches specific spending amounts and at the end of the cruise. So, if you have gift cards to use, it's best to stop by as soon as you're sure you've charged enough to cover the amount of the gift cards. You can stop by several times if necessary to make sure you're not paying more than you're spending.

I would definitely recommend using gift cards to prepurchase credit though. On our 3-daycruise, I had a gift card I tried to redeem but their system was down at guest services on the last day. People were not happy!
