On the 6th Day, I break! August 2019 completed first TR Copper Creek and Coasters!

Hi everyone! I took a family trip to Disney World in August and since I took a ton of pictures, I thought it might be fun way for me to "organize" my pictures (and re-live the trip a little!) Bear with me since this is my first TR!

Some background - my family went to DW when I was 10 years old and it was our BEST vacation ever. Even my Dad, who hates going away, loved it. We have been talking about going back for forever. My wonderful parents decided to take myself, my two kids, and my sister. They both retired so this was kind of a celebration. They went all out, so this was our "once in a lifetime trip". I'm so happy that I got this time with my family. Although of course it had its ups and downs!

We used a Dis travel agent, who was wonderful. Even though I planned like crazy and have been obsessed with DW so I already knew a lot, she was able to get out FP's and ADR's when I had to be at work. My Mom had her heart set on staying at the Poly, since that's where we stayed when I was little and she wanted to be on the monorail. I was pushing a value resort since I felt our budget wouldn't allow what she wanted. My sister was able to get most of our flights free with her points (she travels a lot), so we ended up being able to do a deluxe! (we also got free dining -OMG the amount of food. More on that later). With the help of our TA, we ended up choosing to stay at a 2 bedroom Copper Creek villa. No monorail, but would fit us all (with extra space, since I was worried about my Dad and my sister being cooped up with my kids for a week). Having the "living room" was perfect for my Dad to stay up late and not feel like we were living in a little room the whole time.

ANYWAY, we ended up going August 13th - 20th. We didn't want to do August, but I'm a Head Start teacher, so summer it was! We did August last time and it wasn't too bad... 24 years ago. My kids were so excited! We live in upstate NY and go visit my sister who lives in Manhattan, but other than that they haven't really been on a true vacation. We drove to Boston once while my Mom was there on a work trip and stayed overnight. SO, this was huge for them.

So, here we are:

I imagine this TR will take me awhile, but it seems like that's normal? I can just add to it when I get the time? I'm hoping I can remember everything! This trip was LONG anticipated by me, so I'm excited to re-live it through this TR.

Ok, took me awhile to transfer all my pictures from my phone to my computer, but hopefully I have them all.

So my family and I were all very excited about our trip - my eldest daughter was in a summer production of Lion King Jr., so that added to our Disney excitement.






Unfortunately it also meant two performances on Saturday, one on Sunday, and then leaving on Monday, so that was a crazy weekend! I had ordered some groceries from Garden Grocer (way in advance to get a discount). Turns out, we didn't eat most of what I got since the meal plan was CRAZY. We did use the milk we ordered (big tea drinkers), bananas and a couple cases of water for the parks. We did not end up eating much of the yogurt, oatmeal, bagels, frozen fruit I ordered (I thought we would eat in for breakfast most days, but we were SO. FULL.

We drove from upstate NY to Croton on Harmon train station and took that into Manhattan. We had to pay a pretty penny for parking, but the train tickets were cheap and it kept us from having to drive into (and park) in the city. It worked out nicely also, because it broke up the trip for my girls. We then took a taxi to my sister's apartment and stayed the night there. She started doing laundry and packing after we arrived in the evening. And I thought I was bad! I made tacos and I finished reading "Where is Disney World" (got it from Scholastic) to my kids and went to bed (squeezed onto a couch with my youngest - not the best night's sleep!)

The next morning we took a big taxi to the airport and off we went!

We got to Orlando and took the bus to our resort... I was BRIMMING with excitement!

On to the resort!

Nothing but good things to say about the Copper Creek villas and the Wilderness Lodge in genereal. SO beautiful. We couldn't believe we were staying there and I felt so lucky and thankful to have such wonderful parents who still spoil me at 34!

We walk into the resort and right as we are walking to the elevator we see THIS guy:




Which was even more amazing because Stitch is the girls' favorite character (see the Stitch in M's hand? She refuses to sleep without him). We also saw Goofy and Donald, but the girls were a little shy and overwhelmed, so we didn't get a picture with them.

We were amazed when we walked into the villa as it was even nicer than we had imagined:

We took a look around the resort and had dinner at Geyser Point which we all agreed was our absolute favorite restaurant throughout the whole trip. It was so relaxing and made us really feel like we were on vacation. Plus, the food was delicious and cooked well. It was also a plus that the kids didn't have to order from the kids menu. M freaks out when having to order off of a menu and is more of an adventurous eater, so being able to choose adult things at quick service was a plus for her.


I mean, just look at how inviting it is!

My Mom, sister and I all got the bison burger. I don't remember what my Dad got and apparently don't have a picture. My mom got the grain salad. The burger was amazing and Mom said she enjoyed the salad.


M got the fish and chips (with a cup of malt vinegar of course) which was SO good that I ordered it the next time we went:

Kids had to try desserts and adults each had alcoholic drinks which were the perfect way to start off our vacay after a hectic day of traveling. I really liked having the drinks included in the meal plan, as we probably would not all have gotten them if we had to pay out of pocket. The upside to the meal plan was definitely not having to worry about the cost of the food, however, I would probably not do it again as it was just SO. MUCH. FOOD.

We stopped to pick out or refillable mugs and then stopped to browse around the gift shop. Funny story... I was sorting our mugs mid-trip when J thought she lost hers and realized we had more of one style than we should have. My Dad had misplaced his so he had just grabbed another one from Roaring Fork - he thought they were just free with the meal plan! We did get it sorted out.



The girls sat for a few minutes to rest and watch cartoons in the lobby:

We grabbed our groceries from the front desk and the girls had fun transporting them back to the room:



Then, what the girls had been waiting for......


the pool! (that's J coming off the slide). During the trip my mom and sister thought the water was a little too warm, but I LOVED it. In fact, I loved the weather the whole time and kind of wish I didn't live in a place where winter seems to last for six months.





We tried to go to bed decently early so that we could get up and rope drop Epcot. I also stopped at the front desk to get the girls "first visit" pins and a birthday pin for my sister, as her birthday was the next day! I bought a Wilderness Lodge shirt to give her as a present also.

EPCOT DAY! I was determined to rope drop, but didn't plan on taking advantage of any early magic hours, as we are not morning people. I figured we parks to rope drop that didn't have EMH so hopefully they would be a little less busy.

I had told may parents and kids to not answer the phone in the morning, so my sister was woken up to Goofy wishing her a very Happy Birthday, which she was at first startled and confused by. I made her wear her birthday pin the whole day of course, so she had many people wishing her a happy birthday.

We grabbed quick snack breakfasts at the Roaring Fork before leaving:

M had to try this doughnut and J got a chocolate chip muffin. The girls are not really into sweet things, especially for breakfast, so it was more just the "fun" of being able to eat something like this for breakfast! My Dad stayed at the hotel to sleep in and would meet us later at the park. I felt badly that he would miss out because I had planned things I knew he would like (test track, spaceship earth). If we go again, I would make sure to plan "Dad" things later in the day.




While waiting for the bus, we were entertained by this cast member who was telling us Disney jokes. She was SO deadpan in her delivery and my sister and I thought she was hysterical. She told us that she loves working at Disney.



We arrived at Epcot and booked it to Test Track. I had debated rope dropping Soarin, but knew we had a fastpass for FOP later in the week so decided TT instead.


While waiting in line, we kept hearing and announcement that there were technical difficulties so we debated if we should stay or go. I was worried that if we waited and couldn't get on that we would have rope dropped for nothing. Fortunately I decided to ride it out and we did get on. It was an awesome ride to start out with - the girls loved it. It was a little too fast for my Mom, but she was happy she tried it.

Background - my kids have only been on "kiddie" rides at little kid parks, so this was very new for them. I "hate" roller coasters, as I get vertigo crossing the street! I HAD been on space mountain and big thunder when I was 10, but thought that I would not want to go on any fast rides. I was very nervous and getting dizzy, but also didn't want to miss out. So stay tuned to see if I end up getting the courage to actually do FOP and Mine Train...


So, back to Epcot - We used a FP for Spaceship Earth and then walked over to the Seas pavilion when I realized that my magic band was gone! My Mom used our FP to bring my kids into Turtle Talk while my sister and I tried to locate my band. I ended up getting a new one from customer service, which was surprisingly quick and easy.

We walked back to the pavilion and I walked around with J, who enjoyed reading all the "fun facts" around her. I'm gonna try to post the pics in another comment. For some reason it won't let me post any more pictures here.

We walked over to Norway and used our Frozen FP... we loved it as you can see! My sister was laughing at her face in this one, as she felt it was not the most flattering.. then we were laughing even harder at the Dad behind us... at least his kids look like they are enjoying it!



We met up with my Dad back at the Seas and my parents took the girls on the Seas ride. J then took a ton of pictures of the aquarium like this one:



We sat there for a long time and watched the sea creatures. Next time I would definitely want to take them to Coral Reef. The girls both don't seem really interested in zoos, but they just loved the aquarium. A CM came up to us and talked about the creatures for awhile, which was nice. We stopped for a photopass picture:




We then made our way BACK to the World Showcase. I pulled up the Agent P. game on my phone and it turns out that was the highlight of the trip for J! It was pretty awesome... my Dad loved it too.

We didn't get to traverse the whole showcase (my sister did break off for bit and walk around it) because we had a ADR for Akershus, but we got to do China, Mexico, and Germany. We were blown away by the Mexican pavilion. It was beautiful. I'd love to eat in that restaurant. M thought it was SO COOL that we were making things move and sing. We did get rained on, but had our handy dollar tree ponchos ( which were actually quite cumbersome, I think I'd rather bring a small umbrella).





We went on the boat ride in Mexico and then my sister met back up with us for dinner at Akershus with the princesses!

Oh, I forgot to add... we used snack credits in China for curry chicken pockets and egg rolls when it was POURING rain and they were really good! We had also used snack credits to get mickey bars while at the Seas.

We had an early 4:55 ADR for Akershus. I chose this restaurant for a few reasons, even though I know the food is not known for being... well, good. I wanted to do a nice sit down for my sister's birthday, I knew it would be a good use of a table service and didn't want to use two credits for Cinderella's RT. Looking back, I would have rather have used two credits, since we felt like we had way too many meals.

ANYWAY.... to sum it up, my review of Akershus would be: Characters - good, Food - meh to blech.

We were all relatively hungry, as this was our first full day and we hadn't yet hit our food wall. I was not a fan of the cold buffet. M liked it, but she is a VERY adventurous eater and likes things like cold fish. Her favorite snack at home is seaweed and she loves dried anchovies from the Asian Market. I like to be adventurous with my eating also, but just... no. It wasn't good.





See that cheese and fish on M's plate? Disgusting. DISGUSTING. The girls were happy to get hot cocoas since every restaurant in Disney seems freezing cold.

On to the entrees....

I ordered the potato dumpling, against all better judgement. I guess I wanted something "lighter". They were just tasteless lumps.





My Mom got the mixed grill, which was better, but not awesome. The salmon was probably the best thing. Meatballs were ok. I definitely would have been sorely disappointed if we had paid out of pocket. Of course, the tip alone was more expensive than any meal I would normally eat out, but seeing the princesses was nice. J (10) even did the parade, which was nice!




Dessert was also "meh". But my sister got a cupcake for her birthday and a card signed by Mickey and the gang!

We saw Aurora, Cinderella, Snow White, and Ariel. Interactions were very short but very nice. My girls were both pretty shy with the characters, so a quick "hi" and a picture was the norm.


We then went back to our resort, took a dip in the pool before bed ( I knew that the girls would want to swim A LOT, so I tried to plan in a lot of time for the pool) and tried to go to sleep at a decent hour again, as the next day was another ROPE DROP day, but this time in MK!

I also wanted to do a little reflection of how each day panned out vs. how it was planned. SO, Epcot day. As I already stated, I was disappointed that my Dad didn't make it for the morning portion of our day. Attractions we missed that we had wanted to do were: Mission Space, Soarin, Living with the land, and American Adventure. Also, Ralph and Venelope meet and greet and 1/2 the world showcase. Didn't get Poutine in Canada or stop at a bakery, but we were just TOO full.

Epcot did turn out to be J's favorite park and Agent P's was the surprise hit of the trip - the whole family loved it.

If I was able to go back again, I would not to a TS at Epcot and enjoy eating throughout the World Showcase instead. I would also give WAY more time to World Showcase and do the rest of the Agent P game. Well... actually I would love to do Coral Reef, so maybe I would do two days at Epcot!

First day at MK! (we would be doing a second day later in the week too)

We got up nice and early and ate breakfast at the Roaring Fork again ( just snack credits I believe) and of course got a coffee to-go.

We took the boat to MK and it was SUCH a nice way to start the morning! Once again, my Dad would be joining us later in the day, since we got up so early.

My plan was to rope drop Peter Pan's flight. My Mom wanted to watch the morning "show", so we watched most of it and then headed to the ride. It was really hard for me to not pull the, "I've put so much into planning this trip, just listen to me!" card, but my main goal was for everyone to enjoy the trip, so I tried to not be so anal.

We loved PP's flight and the queue. I did not love the older man who pushed his wife's wheelchair in front of us in line and made eye contact while doing so. There's not a lot of things I dislike more than people cutting in lines. I vented to my sister, but didn't say anything because I hate confrontation and have no backbone.

We then did Small World, which we all loved. Even M, who had a hard time sitting still, enjoyed it.





We then did Mickey's Philharmagic before heading over to Enchanted Tales with Belle for out FP (which was not really needed, but this was the one thing my Mom really wanted to do with the girls).

It did not turn out too well for us. It seemed geared towards a younger crowd than my two. M had a breakdown and cried because she didn't want to go up at first and be in the "play". Then the CM told all the kids in the play to line up and go in the next room. M wanted to go with them, so I told her that was fine and to go. The CM told her to wait and she would go in after. She came back to me and was SOBBING. You know that silent sobbing, where they bury their face in your shirt and almost knock you over?

The CM came over afterwards and asked if everything was ok. She was very nice, but I wished she had just let M go in with the kids. I think it was the embarrassment of it that did her in. I also felt guilty, since I told her to go line up.

Anyway, she did end up wanting to get her picture taken with Belle after the show. The highlight was the adorable little girl, chosen to play the Beast, slow dancing with Belle.

We stopped for a photopass pic and got a nice magic shot with Lumiere, which for some reason I can't seem to post here. And then we got ready for our 11:05 ADR at Be Our Guest.



Loved the theming. The food was pretty good. J LOVED her French Dip sandwich, which reminds me that I told her I would make it at home some time.



We ate in the ballroom, but peeked into the other rooms. The girls weren't as impressed with the theming as I was. We wanted to walk past the whispering knights, but the line was too long so we couldn't get a peek.

My Mom and I both got the chicken, which was very good, but I wish I had gotten the steak sandwich, as that was even better. However, it was nice to have something on the lighter side. And it was also nice to get a light alcoholic drink included with our meal plan. My sister got the Croque Monsieur, which she said was ok.








After lunch, we split up. My Mom walked around with my sister, and for the life of me I can't remember what they did. It was nice to have a little time with just myself and the girls. We rode the carousel, which was enjoyed by all



We met back up with Mom and my sister and walked over to our FP for Under the Sea. Right after we used our FP for Winnie the Pooh. Loved Winnie the Pooh, but would never do it without a FP! It was so quick!

We walked around some more and did some things. Honestly, it's a little hazy since the trip was over two months ago and apparently I didn't get a lot of pictures for the rest of the day. I do believe that my Dad met up with us shortly before we were going to leave the park, so he stayed for awhile. We went back to the resort to... you guessed it... swim. My sister and I decided that we wanted to go back to a park for the evening. My Mom said that she would stay at the resort and swim with the kids. Which sounded amazing! As a single mom, kid-free time is almost non-existent. And kid-free time in Disney, at night, with my sister sounded even better!

Unfortunately, my family is not known for planning or making things happen. My sister called my Dad and he said he was coming back from MK. So, she said we should do dinner at Geyser point and then go back to MK. I said ok, even though I knew time was of the essence. Then she changed into her bathing suit and said she wanted to take another dip first! I said that I thought we should do dinner right away since we had to factor travel time into our plans, but she said she would be quick.

We had another amazing dinner at Geyser Point and then my Dad decided to join us back at MK. I felt bad for my Mom (she was too tired to go back, but I did feel badly that she missed out). We took the boat and then when walked around Main Street, I was ITCHING to get into the park, but bided my time. My Dad got a cute Mickey hat (and earlier he had bought a cute grandpa sheriff badge):




and then he said that he wanted to watch the fireworks! I said, "no thank you", and booked it to the back of the park. I rode Big Thunder... twice. and then met back up with my sister and my Dad. We all rode Space Ranger Spin without any wait, which we loved. The picture makes us laugh every time we look at it: (oops, ran out of room, so I'll post it in the next comment).





We walked around Main Street for a tiny bit and then made it back to the hotel for a good night's sleep, as Animal Kingdom would be on the agenda for the next day (but not rope drop thankfully!)

So for our first MK day, we did miss out on doing the Pirates ride, but I thought we would just do it on our second MK day (we didn't end up getting to do it, but we did so much that we don't feel as though we missed out. Gaston was on a break when we stopped over to see him and we didn't get to do the People Mover or Carousel of Progress/ Hall of Pres. But overall, I was really happy with what we did do! Oh, we did also do Monsters Inc when I was off with the girls by myself. And I also forgot - we spent awhile at the Casey JR splash station before we left the park for the day. The girls enjoyed it, but it was SO hot by that point, so we were ready to leave.

AK day, we slept in a little bit since our first FP wasn't until 11 am (safari). We actually ended up changing it to a Dinosaur FP for later in the day, since we wanted to take more time in the morning and have a relaxing breakfast. We all made our way to Roaring Fork (including my Dad!) and had a (huge) delicious breakfast including:

Kids meal (even though our QS credits could be adult, J knew she couldn't handle another huge meal!)


And the "snacks" that come WITH the QS meals! (we ran back to the room and put them in the fridge before we left for the day). Also, I don't remember every time we grabbed a snack at Roaring Fork... but it was a lot, because we had SO MANY SNACK CREDITS. It was WAY too much food!





With our bellies EXTREMEMLY full, we headed out to Animal Kingdom!

We got through the lines so quickly, in fact, I was surprised the whole trip with how quickly we got in and out of the parks! Transportation wasn't bad either, even though I had read that it can be a little slow staying at Wilderness Lodge.

As soon as we get into AK, I spotted this lady and yelled at my party to "look!" They didn't quite know at first what they were looking at, but they did think it was pretty cool.




J wanted to stop to sign up to be a Wilderness Explorer (remember, she loved Agent P). She thought this was pretty cool too. She loved doing all the noises and things to become an "official member". We saw a little dance party with Rafiki, but the kids noped that right away, but they did think it was cool to see Kevin walking around. I was pretty impressed that we saw so many cool things just 5 minutes into the park.


So we wandered off to see some animals. I loved the "feeling" of this park. My kids are not big zoo people, but they really did enjoy walking aorund and seeing the animals. I walked at a faster pace with M and J took her time (with her Wilderness Explorer booklet) with my sister and parents. We got to see cool cats like this guy:



We did It's Tough to be a Bug. (edit - hold on, we did this AFTER lunch, but I'm too lazy to rearrange it now) It got two thumbs up from my Dad. The girls liked it (M especially loves interactive shows), but they didn't feel the best part (the bugs crawling across your seat) because their little tushies were too far forward on the chairs!





We used a FP for Kali River Rapids, which was really fun. Would not have been worth it to wait in the regular queue, but the FP line was manageable and we all did enjoy the beautiful queue. It was nice to go a on a fun ride with all 6 of us together. We did get pretty wet.

My Mom bought the girls some mouse ears, and I also got a sun hat (which had a wire poke out right after the trip, but can hopefully be fixed) and some Minnie Flip Flops for J.

We walked over to Yak and Yeti for our lunch ADR, and got a picture before heading in:

Yak and Yeti was a beautiful restaurant. We sat upstairs in a green room. It was freezing cold.




We absolutely loved the food, but we were there for what seemed like forever. Plus, we were not starving, since we had a nice big breakfast.

The alcoholic drinks were different and super tasty. I got the lobster garlic noodles which were divine! Another half eaten picture:


My sister and Mom both got the curry which they said was great. The kids had to get kids meals, which sent M into a tizzy. She was placated by us telling her she could share in the adults' food. The kids were also bummed they had to get "kids" desserts. J said the pudding was bleh. We each ordered something different so that we could share and of course the highlight was the wonton dessert:

We were stuffed to the gills (this is when we really did Tough to be a Bug). J enjoyed doing some more of her wilderness explorer booklet and M liked the boneyard too.




We tried to use our FP for DINOSAUR! but it was broken down

My parents went off to do the safari, but the kids didn't want to go, so we just played in the boneyard for a bit.

We then met up with my parents and entered Pandora! We all loved the atmosphere. But we loved our FP for FOP even more! Hands down, everyone's favorite ride of the vacation.

We then wandered aimlessly around the park, as Dinosaur was still down and we didn't really know what to do. The kids wanted to do rides and were not interested anymore in animal sightseeing. As it started to get a little dark, we all split up and the girls and I wandered the park. I got to try one of these:



Unfortunately, I was still so full that I didn't get to enjoy it as much I could have. M got a Mickey Pop and J got a Lion King cookie sandwich and she was looking fierce by this point. And yes... that is a stroller my 9 year old was in. My Mom ended up renting it for the kids because she's a pushover. It was more for my 8 yr old as J was really too big for it. It did make it easier for M, especially since we stayed really late at this park. M actually used her vacay money to buy a stuffed sleepy Simba just to make the stroller more comfortable since she didn't have her stuffed animals on her.

We met back up with my sister, who really wanted to do Expedition Everest. There was no way I was going on, but M wanted to. I was scared that it would be way too much for her, but she insisted. Then J wanted to go, but wanted to sit with me. I somehow allowed them to convince me to go on the ride, against all better judgement. Remember my vertigo? Oh and fear of heights? Well....




I loved it! I loved it so much we went on it FOUR TIMES in a row! (thanks to the nighttime show starting, we just kept walking on!!!)

Before we left the park, J got an Expedition Everest shirt with her vacay money and M got a Yeti keychain with the rest of hers (my Mom also bought her a Stitch one while at Disney)



We got some pretzels before leaving the park, but J wasn't a fan, so I stopped at Roaring Fork for her to grab a treat. She chose one that matched her new ears



So, two of our favorite rides were in AK (FOP and Everest), but interestingly enough, it may still have been our least favorite park. It DID have a magical feeling. The "feeling" of the park was great, but there was definitely a lull where there wasn't enough to do. Dinosaur was down, there was no way we were waiting in line for FOP, Kali, or Naavi RJ, and the kids wanted to do something "fun". Maybe I just didn't plan this day in the best way. And our feet were tired, so that could be it too! Luckily, we had planned a rest day for the next day... we would be staying at the resort for the whole day... but had two ADR's to make it fun!

We started out our resort day by … sleeping in! Yay!

We didn't sleep in too late because we had a 9:50 ADR at Whispering Canyon. My Dad did not make it to this one (AK was a lot of walking).

And, while we were still pretty full from all the other meals, we did enjoy the food. And the waitress! She gave some good jabs at my Mom, but was so awesome with feeling the girls out... she was nothing but sweet to M who was a little shy, but focused the sarcasm on the adults. The girls loved the ketchup bib. Hot cocoa for the kids and mimosas for the adults made for a nice start to our day.








We then pretty much just went swimming for the day! We did stop to have a "snack" lunch (ok, dessert). The PBJ "back to school" cupcake was sooo good. But I'm partial to anything peanut butter.

After swimming the day away, we changed for an early ADR for storybook dining at Artist Point!!!!

I was SUPER excited about this, and it WAS great, but we were all. STILL. SO. FULL. So that kind of dampened it. I also forgot that we could have ordered extra adult drinks with out meal plan, but we were so full anyway.
