? on reservation points and cancellation

One of these days I will figure this all out... I already have a two week reservation for October 2002, October is our use year. I just banked our remaining 2001 points via email. Should I contact member services to ask that our banked points be applied first for our 10/02 reservation or will they automatically do that?
Also, if we shorten our 10/02 trip and need to cancel a portion of our reservation, is there anything that I need to know and avoid any penalities with points?

If you already have a reservation in Oct '02 and are now banking points from '01 , you will have to tell MS to use those banked points for the ressie. They won't automatically apply them for you.

If you cancel a portion of a reservation more than 30 days prior- the points will be returned to the current use year. If cancelled within 30 days, they will go into the holding account and must be used before the end of the current use year.

If you should cancel, make sure that MS uses the banked points for the reservation and current points for the cancellation. That way, you can still bank the points if desired.

I haven't used the e-mail, but I assume you get some sort of written confirmation of your banking transaction?

If not, I would call member services and get the banking confirmation number. Every transaction at DVC has a number, whether it is banking, borrowing or reserving. As with most computer based systems, this number is often the easiest way for them to find a transaction should any questions arise.

Anytime you make a transaction, it's always a good idea to ask them to confirm your point balances by use year. That way you know what they have matches what you have in your records. If they did not apply the points the way you expected, you will catch it right away.

If you cancel anything the day of check-in or later (that is, you cut your trip short), then those points are lost. So be sure you have your dates finalized before check-in.

30 days or less really means 1 to 30 days ahead. At zero days ahead points are forfeited.
